Hij slaapt naar eigen zeggen maar drie uur per nacht, werd twee dagen geleden 69, heeft misschien wel het meest besproken haarstukje (of is het echt zijn haar?) ter wereld én is vanaf vandaag Republikeins presidentskandidaat: miljardair Donald Trump. Vanmiddag kwam de zakenman met een “special announcement”.
De boodschap die hij daar verkondigde: Make America Great Again! Oftewel: hij kondigde officieel aan mee te gaan doen aan de Amerikaanse presidentsverkiezingen. En dat runnen van een land ziet hij, als we de volgende quotes mogen geloven, eigenlijk een beetje als het runnen van een bedrijf.

Gebruik bovenstaande slogan maar niet, voor je het weet word je gedaagd door Trump: hij heeft de tekst als merk geregistreerd. Onlangs verklaarde hij:
Het was hem opgevallen dat veel andere kandidaten zijn (potentiële) campagneslogan ook gebruiken. Dus heeft hij hem als eigen merk geregistreerd en kan hij gebruikers straks aanklagen. Overigens gebruikte Reagan de slogan in 1980 ook al.quote:“I’ve actually trademarked it. I mean, I get tremendous raves for that line. [...] I could come up with different lines. You would think they would come up with their own. That is my whole theme.”
President worden is geld hebben, weet Trump. Daar pocht hij dan ook graag mee:

Om die reden heeft Trump ook geen adviseur, zegt hij in een recent interview. Die zijn immers niet rijk, dus dan kunnen ze toch niet zo goed zijn?
“They cost me a fortune”quote:“With very successful people, we sort of have our own ideas. A lot of people hire consultants. Well, if the consultant’s so smart, why aren’t they rich?”
Als het aan Trump lag, verdiende hij zelfs geld aan zijn politieke speeches. Hij is - veruit - de best verdienende spreker van de VS, constateerde ABC News.
Geen mens die op hem zal stemmen als hij zo hoog van de toren blijft blazen. Niemand wordt op een eerlijke manier rijk dus hij heeft vast wel wat lijken in de kast.

Donald Trump, the 69-year-old businessman best known for his “You’re fired” catchphrase on The Apprentice, announced he was running for president on Tuesday with an eccentric speech attacking Mexican immigrants and promising to build a great wall along the US’s southern border.
“Sadly the American dream is dead, but if I get elected president I will bring it back,” he said. “Bigger, better and stronger than ever before.”
Trump took to the stage as speakers bellowed out Neil Young’s 1989 song Rockin’ in the Free World, and went on to attack most of the rest of the world as he blamed Barack Obama for letting the country collapse to the level of “a third world country”.
Most of his wrath was directed at Mexico, which he accused of “bringing their worst people” to America, including criminals and “rapists”.
“They’re sending us not the right people,” he said, adding: “The US has become a dumping ground for everyone else’s problems.
“They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing their problems,” he said. “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some I assume are good people but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting.”
He promised that as President Trump, one of his first actions would be to build a “great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall”.
Trump said that Obama, and previous administrations, had allowed Mexico, China and other countries to take American jobs and prosperity. “China has our jobs, Mexico has our jobs,” he said.
“Our enemies are getting stronger and stronger by the day, and the US as a country is getting weaker and weaker. How stupid are our leaders, how stupid are our politicians to let this happen? Our president doesn’t have a clue.”
Trump said the Chinese leadership was much smarter than Obama and his team. “It’s like the New England Patriots and Tom Brady [playing] a high school team.”
He added: “Politicians are all talk and no action. They will not bring us, believe me, to the promised land.”
He also called for a radical reduction on education spending, saying “people are tired of spending more money on education per capita than any other country”.
He accused Republican rival Jeb Bush of being weak on education, saying: “How the hell can you vote for this guy?”
Trump also pledged that “nobody will be tougher on Isis than Donald Trump”, and that he would be “the greatest jobs president that God ever made”.
He told the crowd not to believe government statistics showing unemployment had fallen to 5.4%. “Our real unemployment is 18-20%, don’t believe their 5.6% [in fact the official figure is 5.4%]. China has our jobs, Mexico has our jobs. I’ll bring back our jobs and bring back our money.”
As required by campaign finance law, Trump revealed his net worth before a crowd holding what looked like homemade Trump for president banners which were actually handed out by Trump campaign staff. “I don’t need anyone else’s money, I’m really rich,”he said. “I have total net worth of $8.73bn. I’m not doing that to brag. I’m doing that to show that’s the kind of thinking or country needs.”

Over een paar weken trekt hij zich terug (of beter gezegd, hij gaat zich niet officieel inschrijven) omdat hij door wil gaan met zijn televisieshows en andere commerciele zaken. Hij wil geen president worden; hij wil aandacht voor zijn merk. President worden is een stap terug voor zo'n gulzige narcist.

Mr. Trump – the real estate mogul who launched his bid to occupy the White House in 2016 – paid actors $50 each to beef up attendance at his campaign announcement Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to reports, Trump's team sent an e-mail to a casting agency asking for performers "to wear T-shirts and carry signs and help cheer him in support of his announcement."
For the record, a Trump campaign manager has denied these reports, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “Mr. Trump draws record crowds at almost every venue at which he is a featured speaker. The crowds are large, often record-setting and enthusiastic, often with standing ovations."
But The Hollywood Reporter has obtained the e-mail and another source has identified paid background actors in Instagram photos from Trump's announcement.

Carusone noticed a photo on Instagram of a Trump supporter who also happened to be a paid actor he had seen in other social media posts, Domenico Del Giacco. The girl next to Del Giacco? Also a paid actress, Courtney Kloz.
The Hollywood Reporter investigated and obtained an e-mail sent by the New York-based Extra Mile Casting agency, calling on performers to join the campaign launch.
“We are looking to cast people for the event to wear T-shirts and carry signs and help cheer him in support of his announcement,” the June 12 e-mail said. “We understand this is not a traditional ‘background job,’ but we believe acting comes in all forms and that is inclusive of this school of thought."
