Misschien nog wat vroeg. Maar CBS heeft het groene licht gegeven, dus in het tv seizoen 2015-2016 krijgen we er wederom een superheld(in) serie bij. Serie is van dezelfde makers als Arrow en The Flash.

‘Supergirl’ Adds Former ‘Superman’ Dean Cain & Helen Slater in Mystery Roles



Being a fan of Kryptonians on television just got a massive dose of good news. Not only will Supergirl be bringing the famous DC Comics superheroine to the small screen, but a new report claims that Superman himself will be joining in on the action – that is, actor Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman has been cast in the show’s pilot.

As if that weren’t enough nostalgia for the comic book fans out there, it’s also been revealed that Helen Slater, who was the first woman to play Kara Zor-El on the big screen in Supergirl (1984) will also appear in the show’s pilot.

News of the casting comes via TV Line, and while this update follows hot on the heels of word that the showrunners are looking to cast a Superman stand-in, we would warn that the physical requirements of the role leave Dean Cain out of contention. Nevertheless, Cain’s portrayal of the iconic DC superhero in Lois & Clark endeared him to many, giving a twist on the character’s story that made Clark Kent the ‘real guy’ – and the big blue Boy Scout the real performance.

Helen Slater’s turn bearing the famous ‘S’ may be less well known (and less well-received), starring as Kara Zor-El in a spinoff film to Christopher Reeve’s Superman series. Though the movie is credited with killing that particular film franchise (earning Faye Dunaway and Peter O’Toole Razzies in the process), Slater herself won over plenty of fans.



Fans of Smallville will recognize the pair due to similar throwback cameos, with Slater appearing as Clark’s mother Lara, and Cain as the brilliant-but-obsessed Dr. Curtis Knox. Though their roles in the Supergirl pilot are being kept top secret, fans will be thrilled to hear that the showrunners are wasting no time in tapping into the unsung men and women who have added to the character’s mythology over the years.

As the most recent Supergirl update saw The Flash showrunner Andrew Kreisberg recruited to executive produce and co-write the pilot, it seems the lessons learned with The CW show are already being put into effect. Producer Greg Berlanti had told fans to expect a Supergirl series whose romance and emotion set it closer to The Flash‘s mold, and now it seems the show will also follow The Flash‘s efforts to bring previous actors back to their fans.

The decision to bring John Wesley-Shipp back to The Flash as star Grant Gustin’s father has proven successful for fans and critics, so the immediate thinking may be that a similarly ‘meta’ move is at work here. Of all the characters cast so far, Kara and sister Alex’s (Chyler Leigh) parents have never been mentioned. Could they now have been found?

Ja, ik merk dat zelf ook al bij The Flash. Het is een hele andere aanpak als bij Arrow. Uiteindelijk zie je alle superhelden constant worstelen met hun identiteit en die romantische subplots kan ik ook niet goed over.

‘Supergirl’ Trailer: The Woman Of Steel Has Arrived


When The CW’s success with DC Comics triggered a rush of other comic properties being adapted to the small screen, few were as much of a surprise as Supergirl. Not only was the heroine’s connection to the Man of Steel seen as problematic, but finding its home at CBS – a network not known for hour-long dramas targeting The Flash or Arrow crowd – made the show’s tone, angle, and overall identity more than a mystery.

With the pilot episode now completed, CBS has made the full season order official, confirming that Supergirl is on her way, regardless of the details. The trailer impressed those present at its media upfronts debut, and now fans can have their first look at the show as well.

Since the first reports arrived of a Supergirl TV series being led by Greg Berlanti, executive producer of both Arrow and Flash, all involved have seemed to be turning a blind eye to the skeptics (not entirely unfounded skepticism, since the idea of doing a Super-character justice on a TV budget is a tall order). But rather than worry about whether a Supergirl TV show was possible, the producers set out to see for themselves.

Finding a leading lady in Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara – pronounced CAR-uh – Zor-El, and bringing in CW veteran Glen Winter (and Flash showrunner Andrew Kreisberg) to establish the look and feel of Supergirl‘s pilot has clearly paid off. It may not be for every viewer (just as Kara was not for every reader), but for a show this far out from release, the special effects and sense of humor seem well-established.



Given all the shared DNA between The CW’s shared universe and Supergirl, the first trailer sending a clear message of the identity of the show isn’t too surprising. That isn’t to suggest WB is planning to mix these properties in either the short or long term, but now that the strategy for adapting a DC Comics superhero has been set, it appears CBS is looking to replicate the success, not blaze an entirely new trail. Even so, Supergirl seems to be notably different from her DC siblings.

As is, sadly, the case, simply placing a young woman at the heart of a bona fide DC Comics superhero story is a refreshing change. And even if CBS is best known for their scripted dramas targeting older audiences, there’s little doubt that a younger audience will respond to several aspects of this extended preview.

Demographics aside, the pilot episode alone seems to carry Kara through the early stages of any costumed superhero’s career, aided in her efforts by her neighbor and co-worker (and, obviously, confidant) Wynn Schott (Jeremy Jordan). And yes, Superman is very much alive and well in this universe, but make no mistake: this is Supergirl’s show.



The trailer is certain to get existing fans of the superpowered heroine excited, and features some additional talent to hopefully turn those merely curious into downright interested viewers. Knowing that former Man of Steel Dean Cain (Lois & Clark) and Helen Slater (Supergirl) are on board to cover the nostalgia will give the show a boost, and classic DC supporting characters Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) are getting a modern re-imagining as well.

Keeping in mind that this is all footage taken from the pilot episode, it would seem CBS is ambitious in the plan for their first episode (The CW would be hard-pressed to assemble such a trailer using only one episode of The Flash). If the trailer even gives a strong enough impression of the entire show to convince some it’s simply not their brand of humor, that in itself is an accomplishment. And at this point, different styles of superhero adaptations are inevitable – and necessary.

Supergirl is expected to premiere on CBS by Fall 2015.

‘Supergirl’ Pilot Leaked Online; Melissa Benoist Talks About The Costume



CBS’ first promo for upcoming superhero show Supergirl left many people feeling like they’d already seen the entire pilot, thanks to a First Look that was more like an abridged version of the episode than a teaser for it. Now it’s going to be possible to find out if that feeling was accurate (for those who don’t mind getting at media through unscrupulous means), as the Supergirl pilot appeared today on a number of torrent sites, six months ahead of its intended premiere date.

This isn’t the first major leak disaster of the year. Last month the first four episodes of Game of Thrones season five leaked online ahead of the season premiere, leading HBO to change its distribution of review copies to a streaming-only policy.

News of the Supergirl leak broke on TorrentFreak first, with Variety later updating the story. The pilot first became available just before 3AM ET on Friday, and as of 9:30AM ET it had been downloaded more than 120,000 times worldwide. If nothing else, CBS should at least be comforted to know that people are interested in Supergirl – though the 11 million Youtube hits that the First Look teaser attracted were evidence enough of that.

Unlike the Game of Thrones episodes, which were available in standard definition with a blurred watermark (indicating that they had come from a DVD review copy), the leaked Supergirl show pilot is available in high definition and has no visible watermarks. Review copies are sometimes made available to TCA (Television Critics Association) members this far in advance of a show’s premiere (Supergirl won’t air on CBS until November), but even they are rarely even DVD quality.

That is to say, the most likely explanation is that the pilot was leaked by an insider or a hacker. It was distributed by two piracy ‘Scene’ groups: LOL and DiMENSiON



This doesn’t by any means spell doom for Supergirl. Game of Thrones achieved series record ratings with its season five premiere despite the leaked episodes, and if the response to the Supergirl pilot is positive it could end up generating buzz for the show ahead of time. There has already been speculation as to whether the leak was actually deliberate.

On a slightly more lighthearted note, Supergirl lead Melissa Benoist has discussed the experience of putting on the costume for the first time in an interview with E! Online.

“I just had this injury so I had this eye patch on. It was kind of embarrassing… But the second I put it on, something shifts inside of me. It’s kind of impossible not to feel strength and empowerment and positivity and hope. It really is pretty surreal.”



Supergirl was developed and produced by Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg. The latter two have also spearheaded The CW’s hit DC comics-based shows Arrow and The Flash, which has led to much discussion over whether Supergirl could crossover with that universe. Benoist was asked about this possibility, but only answered with a non-committal “I hope so!”

Supergirl will premiere on CBS in November 2015.

S01E01 - Pilot
Ik vind de Pilot wel een aardige start, de serie moet natuurlijk nog verder groeien. Het personage mag ik wel en ben benieuwd wat voor ontwikkelingen er gaan komen verder in de serie.

Verder zaten er wel wat slordigheden in. De villian, die geinspireerd lijkt op de Lumberjack krijgt de missie om Supergirl te vermoorden, waarbij menselijke slachtoffers voorkomen niet belangrijk is. Dan lokt hij haar naar een afgelegen plek en slaat haar daar helemaal de tyfus. Een helikopter komt aanvliegen, shiet een raket af achter de villian, hij schrikt en probeert gelijk te ontsnappen.

Wanneer Supergirl de bijl weet te vernietigen met haar laserstraal, ontploft de bijl en hoewel die splitsers haar kunnen doden, is enkel de villian geraakt en pleegt vervolgens zelfmoord. Misschien dat hij niet kon herstellen, maar dan nog is het stom dat zij alleen maar wat vegen op haar gezicht heeft.

Altijd lastig als je een superheld bent die eigenlijk te sterk is om er een goed verhaal omheen te maken.

Volgens mij kwam er toch ook voorbij dat Superman niet ouder is geworden? Ze zijn een soort van volwassen, maar kunnen erg lang blijven leven op aarde?
