The Motocross World Championship is a worldwide motocross series sanctioned by the F.I.M.. It was inaugurated in 1957 using a 500 cc engine displacement formula. In 1962 a 250cc class was added and in 1975, a 125cc class was introduced. Prior to 1957, the championship was known as the European Championship. In 2002, the F.I.M. changed the displacement formulas to reflect the changes in engine technology and as a move towards environmentally friendlier four-stroke engines. The new MX1 class became the premier class, allowing two-stroke engines of up to 250cc and four-stroke engines of up to 450cc. The MX2 class allowed two-stroke engines of up to 125cc and four-stroke motors of up to 250cc. The MX3 class allowed two-stroke engines of up to 500cc and four stroke engines of up to 650cc.
The AMA Motocross Championship is the major motocross series of the United States, held since 1972. It is sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association and managed by MX Sports Pro Racing. The series began in 1972 with the introduction of two classes based on 500 cc and 250 cc engine formulas. A 125 cc class was added in 1974. As motocross technology developed, 500 cc two-stroke motocross bikes became too powerful for the average rider and, faced with diminishing numbers of competitors, the A.M.A. discontinued the 500 cc class after the 1993 season. A women's national championship series was introduced in 1996. Facing tightening emissions regulations, in 1997, the A.M.A. increased the allowable displacement capacity for four-stroke engines, in an effort to encourage manufacturers to develop environmentally friendlier four-stroke machines. In 2006, the 250 cc division was renamed the MX Class, with an engine formula allowing for 150–250 cc two-stroke or 251–450 cc four-stroke machines. The 125 cc class was renamed the MX Lites Class, allowing 0–125 cc two-stroke or 150–250 cc four-stroke engines. In 2009, the MX class was renamed the 450 Class and the MX Lites class was renamed the 250 Class, to reflect the fact that all the competing manufacturers had adopted four-stroke machinery.
The AMA Supercross Championship was derived from the sport of Motocross. While Motocross and Supercross are similar in many respects, there are significant differences as well. For example, the Supercross races are heavily advertised and televised motorsports events held within major cities. Also supercross tracks are more technical, not as fast as motocross but with a much higher difficulty level, further adding to the injury risk factor. While growing consistently since the '70s, in the early part of the 21st Century Supercross' popularity really took off. In the United States, Supercross races today are the second most popular form of motorsport (behind NASCAR racing). The American Motorcyclist Association awards three Supercross Championship Champs each year. They are Supercross Champion which until 2006 was referred to as 250 class, Supercross Lites East (which was the 125 East) Champion, and Supercross Lites West Champion. World Supercross Champions are named by other racing organizations around the world. Supercross racing classifications were governed by the displacement of the motorcycle's engine until 2006. In the past, Championships have been awarded in 125cc (also known as "MX2"), 250cc ("MX1"), and 500cc displacement levels (also known as "MX3"). The 250cc Champion has always been generally considered to be the most prestigious.

Max Nagl: I didn’t expect this really. There was no pressure because everyone was looking at the fight between Antonio and Ryan, so it made it a little easier. I expected both those guys to be on the podium. I have no idea how long ago it was that Husqvarna won a Grand Prix, but it feels good to win this for the team and of course myself.
Jeffrey Herlings: I was emotional, not many people know what I have gone through in the last months. I’ve only been on the bike a couple of weeks and I just had to get that operation to get the pins out because if I crashed again and hurt my leg the bone would have just shattered (with the pins in). I felt maybe 65%. I will go home now and train really hard for Thailand, do a lot of 45 minute motos.
Clement Desalle: “It is a strong result and I am happy with my riding and my feeling with the bike and the new stuff. We try to improve every year and this was a good beginning to the season. My starts can be better; this is something we can work on for the next race. We will fly back now and benefit from the time at home to get ready for Thailand.”
Gautier Paulin: “It’s the first race in the World Championship for me with Team HRC so I’m really happy to start the season like this, and it’s always good to be on the box. We’re not at the top, but the season is long so it’s already good to be in third place. For sure you always want better but it’s been a very smooth first grand prix. I’m really happy to work with my crew. We improve every time I go on the bike so we’re in good shape.”
Evgeny Bobryshev: “It’s been a long time since I’ve raced like this so it’s good to be back for sure. I now have to build it up. We have lots of races so I just want to be consistent, stay positive and build from here now that I’m back. In the beginning it was difficult because I was fighting in the middle and the front group already pulled away so when I got the space I was alone in the middle so it’s difficult to find the right speed. It could be better for sure but I have to be happy. Yesterday I had problems with the stone in the brake so I had last gate pick and was right on the outside of the first corner so to finish 9 and 8 is ok. Overall I’m really happy with the bike, it’s all working really good so thanks to the team who have done a great job.”
Kevin Strijbos: “I had a lot of pain in my wrist all weekend. It was difficult because I had a good winter and I want to do well and go for the podium; at least top five. The first moto was really bad. I had pain in the morning so we tried to strap it…and on top of that I had a bad start. I could not ride the way I wanted to, which meant I tightened up and had arm-pump. I felt better in the second race and the start helped. I went from third to sixth and stayed there all moto. My wrist was not hurting, which was good. I think I made a mistake because I should have taken painkillers before warm-up and repeated the dosage before the motos. At least we know for next week. Overall I can be happy with how things went considering the problems.”
Antonio Cairoli: “For sure it is normal that he’s (Villopoto) getting used to these kinds of tracks. He was struggling a bit but that’s what we do when we’re in America. He will be in front in the next races when he’s adapted a bit.”
Julien Lieber: “The beginning of the weekend was difficult for me. Really bad. I was low down in the practice sessions and managed to recover to seventh for the qualification race but my start was bad! My speed was good in the race; I could come back from some bad starts quite well and gained some important positions. I’m really happy and I want to thank the Standing Construct Yamaha team because they did a really good job in the winter. We didn’t have much time because the race engine and suspension came late and the testing period was short. I’m really surprised with the result today. It would be great to try and do the same next week.”
Pauls Jonass: “For sure I am very satisfied. I got two hole shots and the bike is awesome getting away from the start. Also my riding was pretty good and I have to thank Stefan (Everts). He has helped me to be where I am today. I also beat some of the top guys in the pre-season races but the track here was pretty rough and gnarly and it wasn’t so easy to keep it on two wheels. I’m satisfied with my riding and my speed. Now I just have to bring the intensity to make the top speed for 35 minutes.”
Dylan Ferrandis: “I’m happy and at the same time a little bit disappointed, as I crashed in the second race and could have done better. In the first race I passed Herlings and led the race, but I felt some pressure and made a few mistakes so he passed me back as he was faster. I got the holeshot in the second race, but he surprised me when he made a move at the third corner; I had a good rhythm behind him and I didn’t want to try to pass him so early in the race but I crashed when I didn’t see a big hole after I changed lines. I stalled the engine and lost time but I recovered and finally got on the podium even if I’m far from being 100% as I was sick this week.”
Ryan Villopoto: “I haven’t raced since May last year, and it wasn’t a good day but we scored points and that’s definitively something we have to work on. I never had a schedule like that one for a long time, but I’ve got to get used to that and all the rest, including how the gate drops, how they do everything. We struggled a little bit with the start today, a little me and a little the bike, but we came back and got points. We’ve definitively some work to do, but that’s part of it. We learned a lot this weekend and will be stronger at the next GP; we have to work on setup stuff, which make thinks a little bit easier. For me every time I went on the track this weekend things went better; in the second race I had some issues as my rear brake felt strange; I don’t know if it’s a rock or what, but it’s part of the deal. We can make some stuff this week, even if the team doesn’t go back home, and we will be better next weekend.”
Tyla Rattray: “It was a tough weekend for me, for the team, for Ryan, for everyone. We’re not where we want to be; we did a lot of testing, with suspensions, we thought we had good settings coming here, but the GP tracks are much different than the US tracks and where we’ve been testing in Europe. In this case we return to the drawing board, and do some testing; we return with Ryan to Belgium before going to Thailand, we’ll do some more testing this week and will continue to work hard. Sometimes you have to deal with the circumstances, and do the best that you can, but we’ll be ready for Thailand.”
Ken De Dycker: “I just didn’t have a good feeling. The first moto I got an okay start but then I crashed and I bent the handlebars, so it was difficult. Then in the second moto I got very tired and I just didn’t have the strength. I think maybe I put a bit too much pressure on myself.”
Tommy Searle: “I put in a lot of hard work, as did Claudio (De Carli Team Manager) and the whole team to come into this season 100 percent so to be in this position is hard to take. I tried to race (in the second moto) but with so much pain I just couldn’t manage it.”
Thomas Covington: “It wasn’t a bad weekend for me, a lot better than last year as I rode consistent. I scored a top ten overall even though I crashed in both races, that’s not so bad. In the first race I collided with Tonkov and went off the track, unfortunately I couldn’t find a place to get back on the track and lost a lot of time. I came back to eleventh and then in the second moto I was running in fifth after a decent start, but I crashed before the big double and had to come back again from 19th to 10th. I’m happy with the way I’m riding, the bike was running very good and I never gave up as I wanted a top ten result here.”
Jordi Tixier: “Not so much to say about this first GP, it was not a good one for me and I’m very disappointed tonight. I had a good start in the qualifying race but Herlings pushed me down in the third corner, so I didn’t have a good gate for the races. Today I crashed; I’m not where I want to be after so much training this winter, but I hope next weekend will be a different story in Thailand.”
Jeremy van Horebeek: “It was the first GP and I was not really relaxed and I struggled to find a good setting because the track was really sketchy. I don’t like it at all. The design is very nice but there are many deep, square bumps. I struggled also with the starts and they were the key this weekend. I think I have the speed; it is not like the guys are pulling away from me. I was better in the second moto and the gap to the others stayed the same from the first lap. I could see the others ahead. I think I changed what could have been a bad weekend into a good one because I wasn’t comfortable out there. So, the same as last year and I will be ready to pull the trigger next week.”
Romain Febvre: “It was a pretty good first GP except that my starts were not that great. I was tenth on the first corner of the first race but I made some moves to seventh. I was stuck behind Shaun Simpson and it was really difficult to pass him. He made a mistake with three or four laps to go and I could get by. The result was good because the track was difficult with many sharp bumps. The grip varied and it was difficult to get a feeling with the bike. My start was worse in the second moto and I made a mistake by coming short on a double jump and almost crashed. I was really lucky. I was behind Villopoto for many laps and passed him. I think I used too much energy with Villopoto, which meant that I had nothing left to chase Strijbos. Anyway sixth overall with the new team, new bike, new class is positive and I’m happy.”
David Philippaerts: We had one good moto after a bad start. In the second I had a good lap-time – a 1min 51 – which was one of the best for me today. I passed three riders in one lap but half way through the moto we broke the rear wheel on a jump landing. I had to stop because it was the second wheel we broke this weekend. I’m happy to get into the top ten because I think the level this year is very difficult. My speed was good and I’m faster than last year here…but the wheel was a shame. I think many other riders had the same problem. We have to focus for Thailand and Argentina now and keep that top ten position.”
Max Anstie: “We have worked hard with the team for several weeks, and tonight I’m just disappointed with the way it has turned out. I had a few issues yesterday, but it was the first race for us this season and we needed to know where the bike was. I had a decent first moto with a seventh, the second race was even better; I felt really good and was in fourth when I had a big crash in a difficult section. The good news is that I’m still alive, even if I’ve got some pain in my leg.”
Mel Pocock: “My starts are not so good so far this year as we’re still getting used to the new bike. I have good speed but unfortunately I twisted my left knee halfway through the first race. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to start the second race, but I soon had to retire because another rider’s footrest went in my wheel and broke the spokes.”
Glenn Coldenhoff: “I was struggling all weekend long. I was riding way-too stiff with arm-pump and tired shoulders. I got a great start in the first moto and was fourth and started to drop back. I finally started to find my rhythm in the second moto; like I should be riding and passing a few guys. It was a good way to end the weekend.”
Jeremy Seewer: “A pretty good start to the season. I’m happy and the first moto was very positive. The result was good and my riding was OK also. For a long time it was comfortable to do that pace. I made some mistakes in the second race but the track was tricky. We’ll go again in Thailand.”

Herlings, de MX2-wereldkampioen van 2012 en 2013, heeft het maximum aantal van 100 punten. Ferrandis is tweede met 78 punten, Jonass derde met 70. De derde GP van het seizoen wordt op 29 maart in Argentinië verreden.

Motorcross is een risicovolle sport en voor je het weet betekent een zware blessure einde carrière. Daarom moet hij volgend jaar gewoon naar de MX1. Als KTM nog geen plek heeft dan maar bij zustermerk Husqvarna.

Red Bull KTM Factory rider Jeffrey Herlings is without question the man of the moment again in the MX2 class. While defending champion Jordi Tixier struggles through the early two rounds, the Dutchman has been dominant, going 1-1-1-1 and holding a handy point’s lead in the series standings.
Herlings had been to hell and back in 2014 and while many see him as being the fastest motocross rider in the world his past six months have put his speed and his championship on hold. Slowing building to return to his place at the top of the world the Flying Dutchman is being smart and consistent, a plan that will no doubt return him to his rightful place.
We caught up with Herlings after his victory yesterday.
Mxlarge: How did you survive out there? The temperatures was impossible for many of the riders.
Herlings: I felt the heat for sure. I was riding and ok, but the last few laps I started feeling sick and started throwing up, but I kept riding, I managed to win the moto and I got off the bike and the heat got me, I pretty much fainted and had a tough time. I got some food in and second moto I was pretty good. Second moto I didn’t have trouble. In the second moto I tried to save my energy because I was worried I would get sick again.
Mxlarge: How do you prepare for that?
Herlings: It was tough to prepare for this race, something we can’t get used to being back at home. We trained between Qatar and Thailand and it was like five degrees and we knew it would be tough. Two long motos but we will did our best. I think for passing the track last year was better, but the track is what is it and we just had to adapt.
Mxlarge: They shortened the races by five minutes, did that help, and was it a good idea to shorten the race?
Herlings: I mean five minutes isn’t that much, I think three laps more doesn’t make that much difference, but if you see the second race there were a lot of guys not racing, guys like Tixier, Gajser, Seewer and more. At one point it starts to get dangerous and if you see how many riders fainted and DNFed, then it was a smart thing to cut the distance of the races.
Mxlarge: Were you surprised by your team-mate Jonass over the weekend?
Herlings: I saw his results from Valence and Italy and I knew he had a good winter training and I am not that surprised. I am really happy for him, he made his first GP podium, and think from here on he keeps on rolling and get more podiums.
Mxlarge: In 2014 you talked about the perfect season and it for sure wasn’t the perfect season for you. This year you talk about taking it easy and being happy with top five or whatever. Is it maybe better to not put so much pressure on yourself?
Herlings: I mean, in 2013 I missed out on two moto wins because I missed two races with injury. Last year I also missed like one or two moto wins, and then the injury came in with a broken femur and it does bring extra pressure. I won 12 out of the 12 last year when I was in good shape, I lost the fights but lost the war, so it’s important to stay healthy and going undefeated isn’t my goal, my goal is to be world champion.
Mxlarge: Did you get a chance to look at the MXGP races over the weekend?
Herlings: Yes I did, and I was surprised about Villopoto’s speed on Saturday and also about Cairoli on Sunday. He put the hammer down in the second moto and just left them. It’s going to be an exciting season for those guys for sure and nobody can know who will win, I know I don’t know. Even Desalle, he seems in better shape and its one surprise after the other.
Mxlarge: In talking about MXGP you must get a little excited at the chance to maybe race them at the end of the season if you can wrap up your title early?
Herlings: You know, it’s a long way to go and we planned stuff last year, race MXGP in Lommel, go to Unadilla, hopefully win there, but everything changed in two seconds. It’s hard to plan stuff like this, but the main goal this year like I said it’s about staying consistent, stay out of trouble and hopefully get a championship back. It’s tough, Dylan is really good this year, Pauls has surprised everyone, it is never easy to win. It’s going to be a long season.

"The oddest heat casualty of the day came in the form of number-one-plate holder Tixier. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider hit the dirt early in the race and was never in contention for a top finish, and tragedy struck on the last lap, only a few whoops away from the finish line when he crashed and was unable to restart his bike. Tixier then attempted to push his bike home, Ryan Hughes-style, but the heat proved to be too much as he suddenly dropped his bike and began to strip off his riding gear before passing out on the front straightaway of the track. Later, when he was informed by the track doctor and a FIM official that he would not be allowed to start the second moto, he became violent and struck both of them in the face. Tixier was disqualified from the second moto and slapped with a 5000 euro penalty for his actions."

Three of them, #1 Jordi Tixier, #91 Jeremy Seewer and #243 Tim Gajser, were suffering from heat stroke and dehydration. The three riders were declared unfit by the Chief Medical Officer and the FIM Medical Director and forbidden to take part in the second race in accordance with the FIM Medical Code.
While receiving his treatment, Jordi Tixier physically attacked the Chief Medical Officer FIM Medical Director. This is considered unacceptable behaviour and in breach of the FIM Motocross World Championship Regulations.
The Race Direction called for a hearing during which Jordi Tixier admitted the facts.
The decision of the Race Direction was to impose a fine of ¤ 5,000.- as well as a suspension of one month starting from 8 March 2015 on Jordi Tixier, in accordance with the Motocross World Championship Regulations.
No appeal was lodged with the FIM Stewards. The decision of the Race direction is final.

Should one of the first 100 entries withdraw for any reason, the reserve riders will then automatically be entered.
Meanwhile the EMX125 has impressively received 95 entries, which along with the maxed out EMX250 class and extraordinary depth of talent in both classes, only attests that the European Championship is the ultimate development series for any aspiring professional motocross rider.

Er zijn mogelijkheden dat De Reuver een aantal losse wedstrijden zal rijden. Voorlopig gaat hij revalideren en wil hij het geven van trainingen verder uitbreiden. Ook de strandrace van Le Touquet staat nog altijd op het verlanglijstje van de geboren Noord-Hollander.
In 1998 brak De Reuver door in het Open Nederlands Kampioenschap nadat hij al diverse jeugdtitels veroverd had. Een jaar later maakte hij zijn GP-debuut op het circuit van Mill waar hij met een tiende plaats heel goed scoorde. Heb ik ook wel eens gehad na het karten, maar Villopoto is voorlopig nog niet aan het domineren zoals hij in Amerika regelmatig gedaan heeft. “This weekend was OK; it’s not exactly what we wanted but we were able to improve in the second moto and to be right up there with those guys was good, but we still need to find a little more, and definitively to improve our starts. It was tough without a good start, I was able to salvage and get up there and come with them in the front, but Max was riding really well, and so were Toni and Clement. To pass all those guys would have been hard but I think that if I had a little more speed I would have been able to make a little more happen. Once again I’d like to stop saying that but I need to get used to the format of the GP, and we’ll do some more work with the team and hopefully be better in Italy.”

It’s been a hectic last couple months, but feel like its time to update all of you on what’s been going on. So let’s start from the first race in Qatar: Definitely, didn’t go the way we wanted. Our bike set-up was quite a ways off and therefore I was struggled the entire weekend. To make matters worse, in the second race I somehow got a rock wedged inside the rear brake and you can imagine no brake, no bueno. The Entire second half of moto two was sketchy. The whole weekend was just off, but it’s about learning and moving forward. So it was time to get our test on.
Back to Belgium, we tested for two days and made some good progress. Its tough because our tracks in the states are much different than the tracks here. The speed you can ride is so much different. We can push on our tracks, but on theirs the dirt is very particular and you have to be very aware of when you can and cannot push. Sometimes you have to go slower to go faster, which for me is hard to wrap my head around. The bike settings are much different as well because of the dirt. You have to run a softer fork setting because you don’t have the same load on the suspension. I think we are getting closer each day so we can more or less do some fine-tuning from here on out.
The racing itself over here is just different as well. In America, I like to say, we play checkers. While here, they play chess. There is a lot of strategy involved since the races are stretched out over two days (I am on a big learning curve). On Saturday we do two 20-minute practices and a 25-minute race so that by itself is a lot of riding. Then we do another practice plus two more motos the next day! Talk about seat-time. The Starting gate is much different too because of FIM rules. You are not allowed to go to the line with your mechanic, so I have to pack my own gate. Do I build a ramp? Kick some dirt around? Wide? Tight? Again, learning.
That said, next stop, Thailand. This track was a bit more my style, but man was it hot. Like a nice hot humid day in FL. We went 1-3 for the overall so that was definitely better and a step in the right direction. However, we are looking for a 1-1 so there is still work to be done. While in Thailand we got to do some crazy exploring.
We stayed in Bangkok and the place is just bizarre. But we got to see how people live and conduct business in alleyways. It was all just really weird, but a cool experience nevertheless. Watch Hangover 2 and you’ll get an good understanding of it. For example, you’ll see a little kid standing on the tray of a scooter with his dad driving it, and another kid on the back, no helmets, all three of them just ripping. Unreal…
After that we had two weeks off which we used to our advantage and put more work in. Then off to Patagonia we went.
Didn’t really know what to expect but WOW, Argentina is a beautiful place. I could definitely go back there and do some fly fishing and exploring. It kind of felt like home, or like Mammoth, California. One of the coolest places I have ever been hands down!
The track, which was only built for the race was really similar to Mammoth, too but it had fine pieces of porous volcanic rock. There wasn’t a lot of grip yet it was one of the better tracks we’ve ridden so far because it was a lot bigger, wider. And the fans…. absolutely crazy! Never knew people loved moto so much. I had to have guards everywhere I went. It was just that nuts. But it was cool to see people so pumped.
Also got to spend some time with my buddy Casey Stoner, his wife Adriana and their daughter Ally who flew in from Aussie. Cool having him around as he is pretty good with track stuff and its always helpul to get another perspective. Racing itself was okay with 4-4, but once again not exactly what we had in the plans. Got some decent points and things to make better. Work Time!

Red Bull KTM Factory rider Jeffrey Herlings sure knows a little about winning. After six moto’s of the 2015 MX2 championship he has won five of them, and only lost the other because of an accident caused by his team-mate Pauls Jonass.
While the MX2 class might be getting a little less love in 2015 due to the very competitive MXGP class and the arrival of Ryan Villopoto the two time MX2 Champion Herlings isn’t losing any sleep, and despite a less than enjoyable winter and injury riddled 2014, his quest for title number three is on track.
We gave the fastest MX2 rider in the world a call this morning as he was driving to Belgium, putting the hours in to become the best he can be, in a sport that doesn’t take lightly to poor work ethic. Herlings is the king of hard work will pay off.
MXLarge: It seems as though you generally only have bad luck man?
Herlings: Well, that’s true. It is tough with what happened last year, then coming back from a broken femur and then come back and win both moto’s in Qatar and also in Thailand. In Argentina I felt much better because I had spent more time on the bike. I dominated Saturday and then Sunday first moto, first lap my team-mate jumped on me and that wasn’t the plan obviously. I didn’t have eyes in the back of my head. I felt I could have won both moto’s I feel. I had a lot of pain in my bad leg in the second moto, but I still dominated with a 20 second lead and moto win. I am pretty sure I would have won the first moto and have a big lead on second place in the championship.
Mxlarge: The track looks awesome, how was it for you?
Herlings: It was a beautiful track, just like a track should be, wide, some good jumps, waves, a big crowd and some tracks like in Qatar and Thailand you have big rocks. In Argentina you had the sand on the top, good line selection. It was one of the best tracks I have ever raced on.
MXLarge: Dylan Ferrandis has been riding really well, but in the press conferences he often makes statements about running with you if he gets a start. What do you think of that?
Herlings: I mean he has stepped it up a bit and he was a bit lucky he won that moto that I DNFed, so he made up 25 points on me in the championship, but he keeps saying in the press conference whenever he starts up front he will beat me straight up, you know the last three years (smiling). For sure he stepped it up and he is at the moment my biggest title contender.
MXLarge: What about Arco the next round of the championship, do you like that place?
Herlings: I like it, it’s alright, for some reason I always ride well there. It is hard-pack and slippery. I have won there I think the last three years in a row. It isn’t one of my favorites, I mean the next one after Italy is Valkenswaard and I look forward to that more than Arco, but we have to ride it and like I said I have done well there.
Mxlarge: I am guessing you are super happy to have those fly-aways out of the way?
Herlings: I was struggling with time on the bike for those first three rounds, because we did a lot of travelling and it was hard to put hours on the clock. I could barely ride during the week and now we have the European rounds it’s just Friday until Monday and then you got the rest of the week to train. I mean I enjoyed the three fly-aways and we had good rounds winning five out of the six moto’s. We had a good time, but for sure I am happy to be back in Europe and spend more time on the bike. I am sore from the crash in Argentina with my knee and ankle, so we take a week off and then get back into it.
MXLarge: Like many of the National championship races in Europe the Dutch championship seems a little in trouble. Low crowds, not the top guys at the races. What is your opinion of the whole thing?
Herlings: For the moment, as an outsider it looks like a disaster. If I look at videos from Halle the second round of the championship last weekend, it hardly had any crowd, it did look like an amateur race. I think it isn’t the way to go with a National round the same weekend as the Grand Prix. I mean I wanted to race the championship and from the seven rounds three are held on the same weekend as a Grand Prix. Glenn Coldenhoff and I can’t race those three rounds.
Mxlarge: Big names at the National championship races might be a thing of the past in the near future. Desalle doesn’t race his national championship, you missed the first two rounds. Running the Dutch championship without yourself and Glenn seems like a pretty bad idea.
Herlings: My personal opinion is that it’s a bad idea. The clubs need big crowd and everyone wants to race in front of big crowds. People want to see the top guys racing and if you pay 25euro you want to see the best riders possible. I mean last weekend there was a GP live in television in the afternoon or evening, the heavy-hitters were in Argentina and it was bad weather in Holland, so the crowd was really bad. I am just a rider, but I don’t agree with how its run.
MXLarge: I have to ask you again, what is your opinion of the MXGP class after three rounds?
Herlings: I mean, the biggest surprise is Clement Desalle man. I mean you look at guys like Antonio Cairoli and Ryan Villopoto and he is leading those guys in the points race and then you have Max Nagl who has won two GPs, those two guys are really surprising me. Max won two of the three GPs and Clement has a lead by around 10 points in the championship points. I think we all thought maybe Villopoto would do better, he has only won one race from the six moto’s run, but the season is long and Cairoli and Villopoto are champions and at the end of the season I think it will be one of those guys. Sure Villopoto disappointed a bit, but everything is new for the guy, it’s a new culture, new tracks, new competition, everything is different and he needs time to adapt. The season is long and Cairoli is always there and injury free for a while and I think he is the guy to beat.

Iedereen heeft het momenteel over Max Verstappen, die op 17-jarige leeftijd zo’n geweldige entree heeft gemaakt in de wereld van de Formule 1.
Vijf jaar geleden maakte de toen 15-jarige Jeffrey Herlings een nog overtuigender entree in het wereldkampioenschap MX2. Hij eindigde in zijn eerste GP (verreden in Bulgarije) als zesde en derde. Daarna werd hij zesde en tweede in Italië. En toen toog het wereldkampioenschap naar Valkenswaard. Daar liet Herlings zien dat hem een grote toekomst wachtte door beide manches te winnen. Hij won later dat jaar nog twee manches. Vanwege een schouderblessure miste hij de laatste drie GP’s en eindigde als zesde in het WK. Zonder die blessure was hij minimaal vierde geworden en wellicht zelfs derde. Herlings won in zijn eerste GP-seizoen twee GP’s.
In 2011 moest hij zijn meerdere erkennen in de Duitser Ken Roczen. Herlings reed zich wel nadrukkelijk in de kijker door vijf GP’s te winnen.
In 2012 startte Herlings in vijftien GP’s. Daarvan wist hij er negen te winnen. Hij scoorde meer punten dan zijn concurrenten en dat leverde hem de wereldtitel MX2 op.
In 2013 stak Herlings met kop en schouders boven iedereen uit. Elk van de vijftien GP’s waarin hij aan de start kwam beëindigde hij als winnaar. Van die dertig manches won hij er 28 en was verder eenmaal tweede en eenmaal derde. Over overmacht gesproken. Met deze fantastische prestatie prolongeerde hij zijn wereldtitel.
Afgelopen jaar leek Herlings op weg naar een hattrick, want hij zegevierde twaalf keer in twaalf GP’s. Tot hij bij een dag voor het goede doel (Everts & Friends) ongelukkig ten val kwam en zijn been brak. De periode van iets minder dan twee maanden tussen de beenbreuk en de laatste GP van het jaar in Mexico was te kort om goed te herstellen. Toch kwam doorzetter Herlings in Mexico aan de start, maar scoorde net niet genoeg punten om zijn wereldtitel vast te houden.
Hij had zich moeten forceren, wat zijn genezingsproces niet ten goede kwam. Later dan de concurrenten kon hij deze winter zijn motor training hervatten. Hij was er daarom niet helemaal gerust op dat hij zou kunnen winnen toen het GP-seizoen in Qatar van start ging. Maar hij won wel, beide manches zelfs. Dat deed hij een week later in Thailand nogmaals. Van de tot nu toe verreden zes manches won Herlings er vijf. De eerste manche in Argentinië leverde vanwege een val een nul score op.
In zijn GP-carrière stond Herlings tot en met de GP Argentinië van 29 maart in totaal 74 keer aan de start. Van die 74 GP’s wist hij er maar liefst 45 te winnen, een ongekend hoog winnend percentage van bijna 61%.
Op de lijst van GP-winnaars aller tijden bezet hij op 20-jarige leeftijd al de vijfde plaats achter Stefan Everts (101), Antonio Cairoli (72), Joël Smets (57) en Joël Robert (50). Hierbij moet wel worden aangetekend dat in de tijd dat Everts, Smets en Robert actief waren er maximaal twaalf GP’s per jaar werden verreden, terwijl dat aantal nu hoger ligt.
En wellicht staat aan de vooravond van de Grand Prix van Valkenswaard de teller qua overwinningen al weer één hoger, want in het weekend voor Valkenswaard wordt de Italiaanse GP in Arco di Trento verreden. Uiteraard is ook daar Herlings de torenhoge favoriet.
Vader Peter Herlings, die zelf aan veel 500cc-GP’s heeft deelgenomen, had al vroeg in de gaten dat zijn zoon de mogelijkheden in zich had om tot een topper uit te groeien. Peter: “Ik wist dat ik met hem nooit de fout moest maken die ik vroeger zelf heb gemaakt, te weten in het zand blijven rijden. Hij zou op harde circuits moeten rijden. Ik denk dat het 2004 was dat we met hem naar Slovenië zijn gegaan. Hij had nog nooit op een baan met afhangende bochten gereden en zette meteen de tweede of derde tijd neer. Ik had het met trainingen al eerder gezien en nu wist ik dat hij toch echt wel iets in zich had. Toen hebben we alles op alles gezet om hem de mogelijkheid te geven.”
Herlings senior heeft zijn zoon nooit hoeven pushen, want de kleine Herlings wilde niets liever dan op de motor zitten. Dat deed hij liever dan naar school gaan. Peter Herlings heeft bewondering voor het doorzettingsvermogen van zijn zoon: “Ik was er afgelopen zomer bij toen Jeffrey in België zijn been brak. Voordat hij door de dokter geopereerd zou worden vroeg hij aan de dokter of hij over twee maand in Mexico weer zou kunnen rijden. De dokter kon daar op dat moment niets over zeggen. Toen Jeffrey ’s avonds om elf uur weer bij kennis was, was het eerste wat hij zei - en daaruit blijkt zijn mentaliteit - toen de dokter zijn been kwam voelen ‘dokter, je hebt me open gehad, kan ik in Mexico rijden?’ Zo was hij er mee bezig. Hij wilde alles doen om die titel toch nog te halen. Hij heeft me wel naderhand gezegd dat hij zoiets nooit weer zou doen. Hij is professioneler geworden. We waren onlangs in Lommel. Daar was een groep jeugdrijders aan het rijden. Ik vond het knap van hem dat hij toen zei niet te gaan rijden vanwege het snelheidsverschil. Dat had hij twee jaar geleden niet gezegd.”

Husqvarna IceOne Racing kan weer een GP zege gaan vieren met Nagl. Na een tweede plek in de eerste manche won Nagl de tweede voor Cairoli. Ook hier beide op 47 punten met Desalle op 38 (3-4).
Desalle staat met 171 punten nog wel eerste maar Nagl en Cairoli staan op 170 en debutant Febvre op 129. Paulin en Villopoto volgen op 128 en 124.

Jeffrey Herlings Interview
Red Bull KTM Factory rider Jeffrey Herlings went into the Grand Prix of Italy looking to get the GP win he missed in Argentina a couple of weeks prior. The Dutchman had a disappointing DNF in the opening moto at the third round in Argentina.
Herlings didn’t get the win though in Italy, instead having to settle for second overall as young Slovenian rider Tim Gajser pulled the surprise victory. Herlings did win the Saturday qualification race and his Sunday score of 1-2 wasn’t too shabby either.
We caught up with the KTM Factory rider and asked him about the disappointment of not winning a GP in Argentina and also Italy.
Q: Jeffrey, after the problems you had in Argentina you must have been happy to win qualifying on Saturday in Italy?
Herlings: I had to stay out of trouble, when I have a good start and stay out of trouble I should win. I had some issues in Argentina obviously with that opening moto crash. On Saturday in Italy my start was good and I felt comfortable and the bike felt good. I knew I needed two solid starts on Sunday to win.
Q: You had a lot to deal with on the Saturday with the weather didn’t you?
Herlings: On Saturday the weather was different, with the rain it is a slippery track, and even worse when it rains. The track looked good though, I was happy with how it looked.
Q: How did you feel on the Sunday?
Herlings: Obviously disappointed not to win, but that is racing. The start was not good in the second race but overall we had a good Sunday. We won the qualifying on Saturday and the first moto pretty easy. I had a really bad start in the second moto but I worked my way up to the front then I had a stupid crash that was my fault. I picked up some points so I look forward to next weekend. I am not sure I would have caught Gajser. For sure I could have been close but obviously he did a great job. Hopefully I can take the win in Valkenswaard in front of my home crowd. I’ve already won there five times in a row. So that’s what we are hoping for.
Q: Now onto your beloved Valkenswaard.
Herlings: Yes, I love that place. I have ridden so many laps there and if I win I get six in a row, which I don’t think has been done before. I go there for the win, but after Argentina and Italy I really need to stay out of trouble and get better starts.

In the dispute James Stewart, Jr. vs Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the FIM has been advised by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that the Panel appointed to hear the appeal filed by Mr James Stewart, Jr. against the decision of the FIM International Disciplinary Court (CDI) in first instance of 12 December 2014 has confirmed the 16 (sixteen) month period of ineligibility imposed on Mr James Stewart, Jr., commencing on 12 April 2014.
The Hearing was held at the CAS headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland) on 30 March 2015 in presence of the parties. The FIM was defended and represented by its Legal Director, Mr Richard Perret.
On 12 April 2014, Mr James Stewart, Jr. underwent an anti-doping test conducted by the FIM at the round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, held at the Century Link Field, Seattle, Washington. The urine sample obtained from Mr Stewart revealed the presence of a prohibited substance (amphetamine) listed in the category S6. Stimulant under a) Non-specified Stimulants and prohibited in competition under the FIM Anti-doping Code (CAD) in force. At the moment of the test, Mr Stewart was not in a possession of any Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for that substance.
On 17 June 2014, in accordance with Article 7.6.1 CAD, the FIM provisionally suspended Mr Stewart with effect from 20 June pending the CDI’s decision adjudicating on the merits of the case. Mr Anand Sashidharan of India was appointed by the Director of the International Commission of Judges (CJI) as CDI Single Judge to hear the case. Mr Stewart was heard by the CDI during a Hearing near Mies (Switzerland) on 23 October 2014.
On the merits, the CAS Panel found, as did the CDI, that Mr Stewart had indisputably committed an anti-doping rule violation under the CAD. Considering all the circumstances and all the evidence adduced, having regard to Mr Stewart’s degree of fault, the CAS Panel came to the conclusion that the period of ineligibility of 16 (sixteen) months imposed by the CDI was a fair and appropriate sanction.
The CAS Panel, while noting that Mr James Stewart, Jr. “did not take any precautions whatsoever” to avoid the anti-doping rule violation, described the attitude of Mr James Stewart, Jr. towards the FIM Anti-doping Code (CAD) as being “one of reckless disregard”.
The CAS Panel stressed that the sanction imposed by the CDI Single Judge was determined “after a rigorous examination of all material before it” and that the CDI handed down a “closely reasoned decision”.
The CAS Panel has not recognised any inordinate delays in the proceedings whether in the first instance before the CDI or in second instance before the CAS.
The CAS Panel also upheld the FIM CDI’s decision with respect to the disqualifications imposed on Mr. Stewart. However, with respect to the disqualifications of Mr James Stewart, Jr from the four rounds of the 2014 national Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Series in which he participated while provisionally suspended, the CAS Panel held that, while these “stand”, they have effect only so far as the FIM has jurisdiction or as so far as other authorities recognise these disqualifications.
The period of ineligibility of 16 (sixteen) months imposed on Mr. James Stewart will end on 11 August 2015 at midnight.

In the final main event of the 2015 AMSOIL Arenacross season, Kyle Regal and Jacob Hayes were battling for the title early off the start. In main event #1, Hayes took the win over Regal, who finished 2nd. In main event #2 here, the sparks flew a big way as Hayes made an extremely aggressive pass to take out Regal. Hayes' bike would end up having major issues which lead to a dreadful DNF. Regal finished 9th in the main event enough to get him the 2015 AMSOIL Arenacross title.

I mean sure, results do the talking, but just because someone is ten seconds a lap faster than you doesn’t mean they should have beat you. If it wasn’t for that guy taking you out (and the fact that you were riding comfortably in twentieth place), you most definitely would have taken home that W!
But everyone makes mistakes right? Wrong. Not in your eyes Mr. Motocross Fighter. This is big business we’re talking about here. And that Billy’s Towing Indoor Series trophy would have looked damn good on your mantle — had it not been for number 69 on the '91 CR 250 getting in your way. Which is exactly why it’s time to show him who’s boss. Mess with the bull, you get the horns (or at least a stern talking to).
“But wait, isn’t all of that high-tech motorcycle racing gear going to get in the way of your post-race rage, Mr. Motocross Fighter?” Negatory. I mean sure, that helmet might be approved for the most brutal crashes in motocross history, but it damn sure isn’t approved for fists of fury. Snell and DOT never stood a chance against that right hook of yours. And hey, even if that helmet doesn’t implode upon your very first Greek god-like power-punch, at least you’ll have an excellent chance of breaking every bone in your hand. And there’s nothing tougher than broken bones. That’s just a fact.
It isn’t only the art of Street Fighter 2 super-combos that you’ve mastered either. Fight in and fight out, you consistently bring us the most well-said trash talking that the world of dirtbike racing has ever heard. Hell, in most cases you won’t even resort to fighting at all. Because you know that the most powerful weapon of all is the art of rhetoric. It was Gandhi that once said, “Kick someone's hind quarters and they’ll hurt for a day, but tell someone you’re going to kick it and their soul will hurt for eternity.”… or something like that at least.
So here’s to you, Mr. Motocross Fighter. You, and only you, have the innate ability to make the sport of motocross/supercross racing actually exciting. 100 foot jumps? Boring. Intense bar-to-bar action? I’ll pass. But throw you and some other guy out there in a trackside WWE throwdown and you’ll have us entertained until the very last swing. I was not confident when I left Talavera on Sunday evening, as I had pain in my left leg after hurting my knee during the warm up and again in the second race. I had exams today and they revealed that my ligaments are broken and the meniscus is damaged, so I will have surgery this Thursday. The championship is finished for me, unfortunately, hope to be back soon.... Thanks to all the people who support me, in the good and of course the bad moments as your support is always important!

De Sloveen Tim Gajser werd tweede op zijn Honda en Jordi Tixier werd voor eigen publiek derde op zijn Kawasaki.

Herlings heeft nu 358 punten verzameld in de strijd om het wereldkampioenschap. De Zwitser Valentin Guilod staat tweede met 112 punten minder.
In de zwaardere MXGP-klasse was Fransman Romain Febvre (Yamaha) de snelste. De Nederlander Glenn Coldenhoff eindigde knap zesde en steeg in het WK-klassement naar een negende plaats. De Duitser Max Nagl blijft WK-leider in de koningsklasse.
De volgende wedstrijd wordt op 14 juni verreden in het Italiaanse Maggiora.

Red Bull KTM Factory rider Jeffrey Herling might have a massive 112 point lead but he isn’t looking at anything at the moment other than staying out of trouble and clocking up the points. After losing the MX2 title in 2014 to Jordi Tixier the Dutchman has struggled with injuries and crashes, so much so that he is probably only racing at 60% of his normal speed.
In saying that the young guns of the MX2 class, names like Valentin Guillod, Jordi Tixier, Tim Gajser and before his injury Dylan Ferrandis are making life difficult for the fastest MX2/250 rider in the world.
Coming away from the Grand Prix of France with 1-1 scores and his body slowly recovering from pre-season and early season injuries we might start to see Herlings put together more perfect weekends, at least that is what he is hoping.
We caught up with him after his victory and asked him about his 47th GP win (just three GP wins away from the great Joel Robert tally of 50). Also take a look at these brilliant Ray Archer images from Herlings France victory.
Mxlarge: Jeffrey, it is still clear you are not 100%. While the younger riders are doing amazing, how tough is it to be racing when you are not at your best?
Herlings: As I have mentioned before, I didn’t have the winter program, just started on the bike in middle of February and I was struggling so much and normally I could train every day, but it was like one day working, two days off, so I struggled for preparation before Qatar, like 10 days on the bike in total, then after Argentina I had a big crash and couldn’t ride between that race and Italy, in fact I almost didn’t race in Italy, then had a big crash in Italy and couldn’t ride between Italy and Valkenswaard. In Spain a big crash, I did two races in Holland and Belgium between those, but still I haven’t had enough bike time. It will come back to me, but I need more time and I need to stay away from crashes.
Mxlarge: In saying that, these young kids are doing an awesome job of battling with you. I know you don’t really enjoy these types of tracks in France, but you are still pushing forward and scoring good points.
Herlings: If you look at the championship it looks ok, but I feel like the rest come closer because I haven’t had the bike time. I left France healthy so hopefully I can put in some good days of training and go to Italy a little better prepared. At the moment we are racing on the tracks I find difficult, like in England, France, and Italy. The tracks I like are coming later like Lommel, Assen, Latvia, and Glen Helen. I mean I can’t complain if we can stay out of injuries then we can get the job done.
Mxlarge: When you took that holeshot in the opening moto you must have been so pumped, first that you got the start and then that nice little cut up the inside to take the lead.
Herlings: I was worried all night long, waking up and thinking I am going to be all the way on the outside or all the way on the inside, and I figured I would just make the best of it and do what I am capable of. I just thought to myself I need to ride like a champion and I did that twice getting the holeshot from right on the outside. That was pretty sweet, in fact I was screaming at myself when I took the holeshot, but then I went down and I was like, oh come on man. I still worked my way to the front and won the moto, so that was good.
Mxlarge: When you took the holeshot after such a terrible moto on Saturday I was thinking to myself, ok, it’s Sunday and he knows that is when the points are scored. What did you think?
Herlings: That is something you need to get going and handle the pressure and when you are so far on the outside you really don’t know if you will get to the front. I was comfortable and did what I had to do and those two holeshots really helped me out.
Mxlarge: Changing the subject, are you looking forward to racing Marvin at the USGP?
Herlings: Well Marvin is over 23 so he will be in the MXGP class, but there will still be some good guys racing, I saw Jessy Nelson will be riding and some other guys, so obviously it will be good and my goal is to win the world championship, but it is a track I like and it is their home track so they can’t make excuses that the tracks are different or whatever, so it should be fun.
Mxlarge: In the past you have planned things, like going to Unadilla, or riding the bigger bike against Cairoli, but injuries stopped that. I guess you won’t be making plans this year?
Herlings: Obviously with this sport you can’t plan anything, so many things happen so quickly, I mean I broke my femur in a second. The plan was to win the championship in Loket, and normally I would have won that thing. We wanted to go to Unadilla and win there, go to Lommel on the big bike, but it all went wrong in a few seconds and for this season we just want to win the championship and just be consistent and not get injured. Maybe if we win the championship we will plan some stuff.
Mxlarge: Any chance of seeing you in the MXGP class at Glen Helen?
Herlings: I don’t know, but I don’t think so, already KTM have Dungey, Nagl on Husky, they already have so many big bike riders, I don’t think that is smart from KTM’s side, but you never know, but at this moment I don’t think we will do that.

Ondanks zijn valpartij in Duitsland staat Herlings nog altijd ruim voor in het tussenklassement van het wereldkampioenschap. Hij verdedigt zondag een voorsprong van 100 punten op de nummer twee: de Sloveen Tim Gajser.
"We gaan ons best doen. Ik zie wel hoe het gaat. Normaal ga ik om te winnen, maar nu moeten we de verwachtingen een beetje bijstellen. Hopelijk sprokkel ik toch nog wat punten bij elkaar", blikt Herlings vooruit.
Geen zorgen
Herlings maakt zich niet druk over eventueel puntverlies in de komende Grand Prix's. "In de tweede helft van het seizoen rijden we op zandbanen die mij goed liggen. Het is dus niet erg als ik komend weekend nog een paar punten zou verliezen. Het belangrijkste is nu heel blijven."

KTM of iets anders maakt me in principe niet veel uit, al heb ik meer met KTM en Suzuki dan de overige merken, maar hij moet gewoon op de beste motor rijden en volgens mij is dat nog steeds KTM.
De reden dat ik hem graag nu over zie stappen naar MX1 is de kans op zware blessures die einde van carrière betekenen.

“Joining Monster Energy Kawasaki has always been a goal and dream of mine,” Tomac said in a statement from the team. “I feel like with a bike and chassis as good as the KX, plus a team totally dedicated to the 450 Class, we should be able to do big things in the near future. It’s a new team, new bike and a new year of racing. I can’t wait to get back at it.”
The second member of the factory Kawasaki squad will be Wil Hahn, who returns to the team after an injury-plagued 2015 campaign. He will contest Saturday's Monster Energy Cup aboard the brand new 2016 KX450F.
As for GEICO Honda, the team - which used to include both Tomac and Hahn in its stable - will not be fielding a 450 Class roster next season.
With the signing of Tomac, Kawasaki has filled a huge void left by the retirement of multi-time champion Ryan Villopoto. Tomac will attempt to be the next rider to bring a championship to the brand, and his results in Lucas Oil Pro Motocross this past summer prove that he will be one of the leading title contenders if he is healthy.

Nick Kouwenberg, Honda Jtech European 250 Motocross Champion, will make the journey west to compete in the 2016 season of the AMA Supercross 250SX West Region championship.
With support from American Honda, the Dutchman will take on the eight West Region rounds before the European motocross season starts in Valkenswaard at the end of March.
The 24-year old, who is already preparing to start his European title defence with Jtech, will face a new challenge on American soil where the stadium riding style is very different to what he will be used to.
Kouwenberg is no stranger to supercross though, after taking the European Supercross Lites title at EICMA this year. As well as embarking on what is widely considered to be a European rider’s dream, Nick will also accrue valuable competitive time aboard the CRF250R.
As part of the AMA Supercross series, the 250SX West Region championship pits 250cc riders against each other in major Western U.S. locations in a series of heats and a last-chance qualifier before the 15-lap feature race at each event.

Na vorige week in Hawkstone (Groot-Brittannië) wint Herlings ook in Valence beide MX2 manches en de Superfinal mét MX1 deelnemers. Herlings staat er aan het begin van het WK (vrijdag 26 en zaterdag 27 februari in Qatar) dus goed voor met zeven zeges in acht manches.

Clément Desalle schijnt zijn arm gebroken te hebben in Valence en daarmee zou hij er meteen weken uit kunnen liggen en zal Kawasaki nu al opzoek moeten naar een tijdelijke vervanger. Dit gebeurde in de Superfinal, beide reguliere MX1 manches wist hij winnend af te sluiten.quote:

Ik ben benieuwd naar Coldenhoff. Was goed in de 2e helft van het seizoen afgelopen jaar, al stonden toen een aantal toppers niet meer aan de start.
Volgens mij rijdt Pootjes het volledige WK mee, ben benieuwd of hij voor Bogers blijft. Coldenhoff hopelijk regelmatig in de top 5 en hier en daar op het podium. En om het af te ronden Herlings zoals in 2013 dan kan hij naar de MXGP.quote:

Ik moet zeggen dat het trouwens wel spectaculair is in het echt. De sprongen en intensiteit van de klappen en schokken is echt enorm. Maar het is wel lastig om in te schatten hoe erg mensen nog kunnen pushen of inhalen en er is niet non-stop strijd voor posities op de baan...

De Brabander won vorige week ook al beide manches van de eerste Grand Prix van het seizoen in Qatar. Tweevoudig wereldkampioen Herlings gaat daardoor soeverein aan de leiding in het klassement voor de wereldtitel. Zijn voornaamste concurrent Jeremy Seewer uit Zwitserland eindigde twee keer als derde in Thailand.
De Rus Aleksander Tonkov moest genoegen nemen met een tweede en vierde plaats.

Het crosscircuit van Axel ligt er op en top bij om aanstaande zondag de wereldtop van de motorcross te ontvangen voor de eerste wedstrijd om de Dutch Masters of Motocross. Anderhalve week geleden was het circuit door de regenval nog zeiknat maar vandaag tijdens het opbouwen van de baan zagen we allemaal blije gezichten. Het circuit is losgetrokken en dankzij de mooie weersvoorspellingen zal het circuit er perfect bij liggen aanstaande zondag! ‘’We hebben met een hele groep vrijwilligers keihard gewerkt om het circuit er goed in te leggen voor zondag. Dit is gelukt en daar zijn we heel erg blij mee. Met zo’n deelnemersveld kunnen we niet anders dan er alles aan doen om het perfect voor elkaar te hebben’’: vertelt een trotse voorzitter Ad Colijn.
In de MX2 klasse komen zes rijders uit de top tien van het wereldkampioenschap van dit jaar aan de start met als hoofdrolspeler Jeffrey Herlings. De rijder uit Elsendorp is in bloedvorm en zal voor het publiek het beste van zijn kunnen laten zien. Ook in de MX1 klasse liegt het deelnemersveld er niet om. Onder andere Evgeny Bobryshev, Ben Townley en Kevin Strijbos zullen de strijd aan gaan met onze eigen Glenn Coldenhoff, die voor eigen fans natuurlijk iets wil laten zien
De Dutch Masters of Motocross heeft dit jaar een hele nieuwe opzet en moet het elite kampioenschap in Nederland gaan worden. Om het kampioenschap meer uitstraling te geven zijn er voor dit jaar al een aantal wijzigingen doorgevoerd. ‘’We hebben deze winter met de teams aan de tafel gezeten en samen hebben we bekeken waar het kampioenschap kan verbeteren. Dankzij een goede keuze van de kalender maken we het voor de Grand Prix teams mogelijk om het volledige kampioenschap te rijden. Daarnaast hebben we met veel teams afgesproken dat ze met de grote trucks naar de wedstrijden komen zodat er ook in de paddock van alles te zien is. Dankzij de ondersteuning van 24MX hebben we nu op alle wedstrijden een pitlane en samen met Red Bull en SKS Process Components hebben we een hele mooie startwand ontworpen. De aankleding van het circuit is super voor elkaar hier in Axel en met zo’n sterk deelnemersveld achter het starthek, kan het niet anders dan dat het een dagje genieten gaat worden’’: vertelt promotor Arno van den Brink.

Jeffrey Herlings is ongetwijfeld de man van de eerste wedstrijden. Hij lijkt na een moeilijke periode opnieuw helemaal de oude en is dit jaar ongeslagen. Het maakt hem niet uit of hij het moet opnemen tegen de MX1 motoren, hij domineert gewoonweg overal.
Ook gisteren in Moerbeke Waas stond er geen maat op de KTM rijder. Hij won de drie reeksen en ging in de eindstand Max Nagl (2-2-2) en Brent Vandoninck (3-3-3) vooraf.
Snelstarter Max Nagl wist in de drie manches telkens de beste start te nemen en de eerste ronden aan de leiding te rijden, maar na enkele ronden kwam er telkens een MX2-rijder genaamd Jeffrey Herlings opzetten. Hij had geen problemen om Nagl te verschalken en reed telkens in cruise-mode naar de overwinning. Nagl finishte telkens op de tweede plaats en beste landgenoot werd Brent Vandoninck. De KEMEA rijder stond met zijn MX2 motor goed zijn mannetje en volgde telkens op kleine afstand van Nagl.
Vierde in de eindstand werd Christophe Charlier, gevolgd door Yentel Martens op zijn 300 2-takt, Jeffrey Dewulf en Damon Graulus.
Cedric Grobben won beide manches in de MX2 klasse en ging in de eindstand Josiah Natzke, Max Engelen en Cyril Genot vooraf.

VALKENSWAARD - Komend weekeinde kan Jeffrey Herlings de vijftigste wereldbekerzege in zijn carrière boeken tijdens de GP Valkenswaard. "Een mijlpaal in mijn loopbaan'', noemt de motorcrosser het zelf. "Het is altijd bijzonder om in eigen land te rijden. Ik ben daarom extra gebrand op een zege in Valkenswaard."
Herlings gaat dit weekeinde dus voor de vijftigste zege in zijn carrière. Een behoorlijk aantal voor de pas 21-jarige motorcrosser uit Elsendorp. Toch is hij kritisch over zijn loopbaan tot nu toe. "Ik had al vier keer wereldkampioen MX2 moeten zijn. Maar pech hoort ook bij je carrière.''
Overstap naar MXGP-klasse
Tweemaal gooiden blessures roet in het eten en glipte de wereldtitel door de vingers van de motorcrosser. Bovendien zorgde een heupblessure ervoor dat de jonge Brabander de overstap naar de prestigieuze MXGP-klasse uitstelde.
"Op het moment dat ik de beslissing moest nemen wist ik nog niet wanneer ik weer zou kunnen rijden. Er werd gezegd dat ik er zes maanden uit zou zijn. Dan had ik pas eind januari weer kunnen rijden. Dat zou te laat zijn om me voor te bereiden op een nieuwe klasse."
Herlings wil graag de overstap naar de MXGP-klasse maken, maar weet niet wanneer dat gaat gebeuren. "Dat beslis ik namelijk niet alleen."

Brian Bogers van het HSF Logistics Motorsport team heeft in de kwalificatieheat van de Grand Prix in Valkenswaard zijn sleutelbeen gebroken. De Eindhovenaar kwam bij de start ten val omdat hij Max Anstie, die voor hem viel, niet meer kon ontwijken.

Cairoli is hun troef in de MXGP met Herlings in de MX2 en KTM is niet van plan om beide rijders in een team te laten rijden was het verhaal in 2013.
In 2014 reden Ryan Dungey en Ken Roczen samen in de VS dus het kan wel maar ik denk dat ze het pas in 2018 gaan doen. Cairoli's contract loopt eind 2018 af en hij is dan 33 terwijl Herlings negen jaar jonger is.
Alsof ie dat zelf kan kiezen. Hij heeft nu eenmaal een groot kampioen van hetzelfde team in de klasse hier boven. Ze willen gewoon twee wereldkapioenen hebben. Starks is ie 23/24 als ie de stap maakt. Kan ie nog 15 jaar mee.quote:

Eind dit jaar komt er een documentaire uit over de carrière van tweevoudig wereldkampioen motorcross, Jeffrey Herlings. De documentaire heeft de naam ‘’The Hard Way To Win’’ want zoals iedereen weet, is de carrière van de crosser uit Elsendorp van de ene kant zeer succesvol geweest maar van de andere kant ook zeer heftig omdat hij zich verschillende keren na een zware blessure heeft terug moeten knokken.
In de documentaire wordt er teruggeblikt op de hoogtepunten maar zeker ook op de dieptepunten in de carriere van Jeffrey. Naast de actiebeelden van de jeugd tot nu, komen naast Jeffrey zelf, alle belangrijke mensen achter hem, zijn concurrenten en familie aan het woord om hun visie over de desbetreffende gebeurtenis te geven.
Arno van den Brink, Berry Goudbeek en Rick Heusschen werken al meer dan een jaar aan dit project om ervoor te zorgen dat u in de film een zo realistisch mogelijk beeld krijgt over hoe de carrière van Jeffrey tot nu toe is verlopen en dat niet alles altijd maar over rozen is gegaan.
Daarnaast zult u zien wat er voor nodig is om het tot wereldkampioen te kunnen schoppen, niet alleen voor Jeffrey maar ook voor de familie!

Ik heb zijn carrière op de voet gevolgd maar om dan nu van Jeffrey, de familie, sponsors etc. te horen, wat de echte verhalen achter de gebeurtenissen zijn, dwingt veel respect af. Het wordt dan al snel duidelijk dat het voor iedereen een lange, maar vooral ook zware weg is geweest waarin veel is gebeurd voordat de eerste wereldtitel een feit was’’.
Commentaar Berry Goudbeek: ‘’Van jongs af aan heb ik hem in de Nederlandse wedstrijden zien rijden en nu volg ik alles op tv. Nu ik hem dan van zo dichtbij mee maak, begin ik hem steeds beter te kennen en kan ik me steeds meer inleven in zijn situatie. Als je ziet wat er voor het niveau dat Jeffrey heeft nodig is qua training etc, heb je er diep respect voor. Dat is ook iets wat wij proberen uit te lichten in de film. We hebben al heel veel tijd in de documentaire gestoken maar tot op dit moment zijn alle minuten het zeker waard geweest’’.
Commentaar Rick Heusschen: ‘’Jeffrey reed als jong mannetje altijd op de lokale circuits bij ons omdat hij bij mij in de streek woont. Om hem dan uit te zien groeien tot een wereldtopper is geweldig. Het is een eer om met zo iemand te kunnen werken en dan wil je er qua film ook het maximale uit halen. Tijdens de opnamedagen komen er steeds nieuwe ideeën bij en deze proberen we dan tot uiting brengen om het verhaal zo compleet mogelijk te maken’’.

Seizoen is nu gewoon mislukt voor Herlings na een tweede plek.
Herlings: “It was a difficult weekend and even half way through the week we weren’t even sure we could be here. My ankle was very big and swollen and on Thursday I couldn’t really walk properly. We came here with the hope of picking up some points and we came out on top and that was pretty surprising. Obviously I lost the first race and won the second moto and took the overall, so in some way I’m relieved because the pressure of being undefeated is gone. But I’m still kind of sad that I can’t break the record any more. Now I’m looking forward to Spain in two weeks. It’s also a track that I don’t fancy the most but I hope to make the best of it there as well.”

Jeffrey Herlings had quite strong starts on the KTM 250 SX-F but had to chase down French rider Dylan Ferrandis in the opening laps of his two races. “I managed to overtake Ferrandis quite quickly and did what I had to do to win the moto. I pulled a pretty good start in the second moto and was top five and managed to come out on top again.”
When asked if Ferrandis might give him some problems next weekend at the French races, Herlings said: “I know what to expect.”
