Tour de France 2019
Op naar Parijs. Wie gaat er winnen? Wie gaat er gepakt worden met doping? Genoeg te bespreken dus. :)
In etappe 13 van de Tour 2014 rijden de renners van Saint-Etienne naar wintersportoord Chamrousse.
197,5 kilometer schoon aan de haak en een aankomst bergop na een klim van 18,2 kilometer.
Parijs-Nice en vertrekplaats Saint-Etienne zijn goede vrienden. Al 58 keer kwam de race naar de zon er aan. Ook de Tour komt graag buurten, sinds 1950 al 22 keer. Geminiani, Bobet, Hinault, Herrera en Zoetemelk wonnen er, en meest recent (2008) versloeg Marcus Burghardt zijn vluchtmakker Carlos Barredo er in een sprint-à-deux.
Vandaag vertrekken de renners in de stad aan de Loire waar de Tour gisteren arriveerde en ze duiken direct een afdaling van een kilometer of tien in. Dan gaat het weer omhoog en na 26 kilometer fietsen bereiken ze de Col de la Croix de Montvieux (812 meter). De klim zelf is 8 kilometer lang en stijgt gemiddeld met 4,1%, goed voor het label 3e-categorie.
Na weer een afdaling volgt er een heuvelachtig parcours van een slordige 130 kilometer naar Grenoble. Daar starten de renners morgen, vandaag rijden ze erlangs. Maar dan hebben ze al wel de Col de Palaquit (1.154 meter, 1e-categorie) gehad. Deze beklimming start op 64 kilometer van de meet en is ronduit grillig te noemen, met stijgingspercentage die schommelen tussen de 3% en 11,7% en er is ook nog een sector die 2 kilometer lang in dalende lijn is. Moeilijk in je ritme komen dus.
Aan de andere kant van de berg ligt Grenoble op 229 meter. De renners kunnen kort op adem komen voordat het slotstuk van de dag op hen wacht: de klim naar Chamrousse (buitencategorie). Het skioord ligt op 1.730 meter. Officieel begint de bestijging in Uriage-les-Bains, op 413 meter, en dan is hij 18,2 kilometer lang (bij een gemiddeld stijgingspercentage van 7,3%). Maar eigenlijk start het klauterwerk al eerder en zo geteld rijden de renners 28 kilometer omhoog voor ze in Chamrousse over de meet komen.

Generally featured in the first part of the race to the sun, Saint-Etienne has often witnessed bunched sprint finishes on the Cours Fauriel, won by several Tour Green Jersey winners including Rik Van Looy, Rudy Altig, Eddy Merckx, Franco Bitossi, Freddy Maertens, Sean Kelly or Eddy Planckaert. Recently in 2008 Kjell Carlström became the first stage winner from Finland, while Sylvain Chavanel captured his first leader's jersey there.

Culture : Comédie de Saint-Étienne (National dramatic centre, founded by Jean Dasté in 1947), Museum of the Mine, Museum of Art and Industry (weapons, cycles et ribbon collection). Festivals: Piano Passion, New Century, Massenet International Biennial, Celtic Rocks (music and dance)
Sport : athletics (club Coquelicot 42), tir à la sarbacane (blowpipe) (regional discipline with about 350 enthusiasts), water sports at Saint-Victor-sur-Loire (sailing school, marina, boat cruises), hiking, mountain biking, skiing and via ferrata (climbing route) in the Regional Nature Park of Pilat. Events: SaintéLyon (foot race largely at night between the two towns), BMX Indoor international
Specialities : apples and blueberries from Pilat, ribbonry and medical textiles

While the resort has already welcomed the Tour for the finish of a time-trial in 2001, it is also often visited by the skiing champions from the Grenoble area. Marion Josserand, bronze medallist at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics in Skicross often trains in Chamrousse. Situated in the Vizille Canton, the common reminds us of a former Tour Polka Dot Jersey winner, Thierry Claveyrolat, also known as the Vizille Eagle.
