De dag nadat het vliegtuig neerstortte is de stad Lugansk beschoten. Daarbij zijn ca. 20 burgers gedood. Er zijn verschrikkelijke beelden van (die ik daarom achterwege laat). Beide partijen geven elkaar de schuld.

"We have strict orders not to use air strikes and artillery in the city. If there is fighting in the city, we have information that there is a small self-organised group who are fighting with the terrorists."
Kiev regularly calls rebels in the east "terrorists".

De Oekraense regering ontkent verantwoordelijk te zijn voor de explosies in het centrum van Donetsk. Volgens een woordvoerder hebben de militairen de strikte opdracht gekregen geen luchtaanvallen te doen in de stad. Ook mag er niet worden geschoten.
Vanmorgen werden explosies en rookpluimen gezien in de stad in het oosten van Oekrane. Het leger zou met vier tanks oprukken naar de stad, de separatisten hebben twee tanks ingezet. De rebellenleiding van de stad waarschuwde de omwonenden van het centrale plein binnen te blijven vanwege de gevechten.
Voetballers weigeren
Zes spelers van voetbalclub Sjachtar Donetsk weigeren terug te keren naar Donetsk, omdat ze het er te onveilig vinden. De spelers komen uit Brazili en Argentini. De eigenaar van de club dreigt met forse boetes als ze niet terugkeren. "Als ze niet komen, zullen ze pas echt lijden," zegt hij.

Hun officiele lijn lijkt om alles af te doen als False Flags (opzettelijk schade veroorzaakt door rebellen om de Oekraine de schuld te kunnen geven). Wie geloofd dat nog? “The tank column tries to break from the local railway station to the local airport. The gunfire is very intensive, blasts are heard loudly even in the centre of the city,” he said.
The western part of the city has been shelled since 4 a.m. local time (2 a.m. UTC) on Monday from Grad multiple launch rocket systems, local residents told ITAR-TASS. Heavy weapons are used and explosions are heard.
Ukrainian warplanes delivered an air strike by unguided rocket projectiles at the railway station in the city of Donetsk on Monday morning. Around six projectiles were fired. Railway tracks and a locomotive were damaged in projectile blasts. The marketplace is on fire. The mayor’s office noted that the bus terminal was closed and the traffic was restricted.
Defense Minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic Igor Strelkov noted that “Ukrainian army units have broken into the settlement of Avdiivka and are moving to the railway station from there.”
“At the same time our positions are attacked near Peski, Karlivka and Netailove,” he said, adding that “Tanks and marines on armored infantry assault vehicles are used with massive support of artillery guns.”
It was reported earlier that Donetsk militias were fighting with Ukrainian army units near the missile formation outside Donetsk.

Het Russische ministerie van Defensie zegt dat vlucht MH17 boven Oekrane begeleid werd door een Oekraens gevechtsvliegtuig. De jager zou op 3 tot 5 kilometer afstand van het passagierstoestel hebben gevlogen. Volgens Moskou moet de regering in Kiev daarover uitleg geven.
Ook zegt het ministerie dat de Russen geen raket in de nabijheid van de Maleisische Boeing hebben waargenomen. De Russen vragen de Amerikanen om satellietbeelden ter beschikking te stellen waarop een raket te zien is, "als die beelden er al zijn".

De Russische militaire top spreekt bovendien tegen dat aan de geestverwanten in Rusland een BUK-raketsysteem of andere andere wapens geleverd zijn.
Volgens de Verenigde Staten en Oekrane is de raket die het vliegtuig trof afgeschoten van zo'n mobiele BUK-installatie, die geleverd was door Rusland, waarschijnlijk inclusief personeel dat hem kon bedienen.

De Amerikanen hebben online elf punten gepresenteerd waaruit volgens hen blijkt dat het vliegtuig met een raket is neergeschoten.
Ook na de verklaring uit Moskou trekt de Oekraense regering de beschuldiging over de Russische betrokkenheid niet in. Kiev blijft erbij dat de raketinstallatie mt personeel aan de separatisten geleverd is.

De strijd met de separatisten kost Oekrane ruim 130 miljoen dollar per maand, heeft minister van Financin Sjlapak gezegd. Hij zei dat het land geld nodig heeft om de oplopende rekening te kunnen betalen.
Sjlapak heeft de fractieleiders van de partijen in het parlement ingelicht over de kosten van de militaire operatie.
De Oekraense economie is door de militaire kosten in een half jaar gekrompen met 5 procent. De totale krimp staat dit jaar al op 6,5 procent, terwijl op 3 procent gerekend was.

Donbas Water Company has stopped three pumping stations bringing water to the Siversky Donets - Donbas channel due to damage inflicted during battles, the press office of DTEK energy holding company of Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov said.
"Due to the three pumping stations which have stopped pumping water to the Siversky Donets - Donbas channel, restrictions have been introduced in water supplies to municipal systems. Even if water is supplied three hours a day, Donetsk's water reserves will last only five days," DTEK said.
DTEK is making efforts to supply Donbas residents with water, the energy holding said.

Russia Claims A Ukrainian Su-25 Aircraft Was Tailing MH17 - But It Can't Fly That High
CNN reports that according to the Russian government a Ukrainian jet was tailing Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 before it was shot down.
According to the manufacturer of the Su-25, Sukhoi, the maximum altitude of the Su-25 carrying no external ordnance and stores is only 7 kilometers (7000 meters, 23,000 feet). MH17 was flying at 10,000 meters, about 33,000 feet. By this logic, even if the Su-25 was flying directly under MH17 it would be at least 3 kilometers away. How does that fit with the claims that the Russian government is making?quote:On Monday, Russian officials floated the possibility that a Ukrainian fighter jet might have downed the plane.

Russians Scramble To Edit Wikipedia So The Kremlin's Claims Make Sense
Today the Su-25 has been given some significant upgrades -- at least on Wikipedia. Several IP addresses that track back to central Moscow appear to have edited the maximum altitude of the Su-25 from 7 kilometers to 10 kilometers to match the flight path of MH17.
