According to Information Resistance operational data, in the past 24 hours two tactical battalion groups were deployed to border districts of Russia near the border with Ukraine in addition to Russian troops already deployed there.

One of them is towards the direction of Chernihiv [a city 2 hours away from Kyiv by car], another is in a direction towards Kharkiv [close to Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts].

Earlier, according to our data, a convoy of military equipment arrived in Kursk Oblast (Russia). Some of the equipment bears the symbols of the Russian “peacekeeping forces.” The convoy was registered at a distance of about 25 km from the state border with Ukraine in the direction of Glukhiv (Sumy Oblast, Ukraine).

According to preliminary data, the convoy is formed from units of the 15th Separate Guards Motorized Brigade of the Central Military District [CMD] of the Armed Forces of Russia. This brigade was involved in a random inspection of the CMD troops in late June and rehearsed undertaking a peacekeeping operation.

A Ural truck came under machinegun fire near the town of Muratove, Luhansk region, at around midnight, the report said. "The truck was ambushed. One serviceman was killed and three were injured," the press service reported.

It came under fire from an AGS-17 grenade launcher and automatic weapons at a roadblock in the Luhansk region after midnight. A militant was taken prisoner. The servicemen did not suffer any casualties.

The Ukrainian infantry engaged in a shootout with the militia near Siversk, Donetsk region, at about 1 a.m. Two mortar crews were destroyed. Two servicemen were wounded, and a tank was damaged, the press center said.

It confirmed that a BTR-80 infantry fighting vehicle was blown up near Chervona Zoria. Two servicemen died and six were wounded.

Mortar and automatic gunfire was opened on the town of Dolzhansky from the village of Biriukove on Wednesday night. "Seven servicemen were wounded. Two of them are in a serious condition. Four of the injured are border guards," the press center said.

RIA Novosti, a Russian state-operated news agency, has posted a story that says separatist leaders are preparing to evacuate parts of Donetsk in advance of the predicted Ukrainian military assault on the city (translated by The Interpreter):

DPR authorities were preparing a partial evacuation of "some districts of Donetsk," DPR Prime Mnister Aleksandr Boroday said at a briefing.

"We were forced to do this. Russia must prepare for several hundred thousand refugees. They practically all want to go to the Russian Federation," said Boroday.

According to him, the evacuation will be voluntary and it can begin in a few days.

Earlier Kiev authorities said that they would encircle Donetsk.

Ukraine has set the goal of reducing natural gas consumption 30%, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan told Interfax-Ukraine.

"We will now enact measures to reduce consumption, depending on how much we receive [in imports from the EU]. The goal is to reduce consumption 30%," he said.

Ukraine plans to import as much gas as it can from the EU, Prodan said.

"The capacity [for gas imports from the EU] totals about 15 billion cubic meters a year. Taking a half year, that is 7.5 billion cubic meters. That includes the volumes that will pass through Slovakia from September 1," he said.

Naftogaz Ukrainy, acting on instructions from Prodan, has restricted gas supplies to two combined heat and power plants in Kyiv and two in Kharkiv.
