In the aftermath of most storms there is still a bit of life, even if it’s just people rebuilding their houses and cleaning up debris. Unfortunately for the Common Linnets, the acoustic version of their song “Calm After the Storm” is totally devoid of any form of life. There’s no energy, no vigor, and, after listening to the debut on March 12, we seriously wanted to check if the artists still had a pulse.
Thankfully Ilse DeLange and Waylon have now revealed the final version of their Eurovision entry. It has calmed us down and undone much of the horror of the acoustic version. Today’s release shows the song to be more subtle than boring, and the backing makes the singers’ imagined heartache more believable.
It continues the trend of country music at Eurovision 2014—hello Malta, haaaay Switzerland. But this number seems slightly more sophisticated than those two. It takes cues from Crosby, Stills & Nash, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, and feels more organic to Nashville, where it was recorded. De grotere polls zetten ons aan de onderkant van de middenmoot. Of 11e bij de halve finale :/

Maar wanneer er de OGAE stemmen komen kunnen we zien welke plek Nederland krijgt, Anouk kreeg de 6de plek, misschien kunnen we met de ogae dalen maar nog altijd wel in de top 26?

Ik noem dat wel slecht. Nederland scoort altijd beroerd tijdens het live event. Als NL maar net het linkerrijtje haalt bij een poll, dan betekent dat over het algemeen ver in het rechterrijtje live. Pas bij top 10 polling hebben we een finalekans.quote:

Volgens de bookmaker Unibet maakt Anouk met haar nummer Birds best een goede kans op het winnen van het Eurovisie Songfestival 2013. Ze staat op de derde plek met een quotering van 10.0. Ik heb soms wat moeite met het aflezen van de odds, maar volgens mij is het door één kantoor dat we niet meer stijgen.
Ongeïnteresseerd maar toch aanwezig.
Als het gaat om kwalificatiekansen is Nederland op Betfair nu de nummer 11 in de halve finale, achter Estland en Moldavië en voor Albanië en Portugal. Ik denk dat van de huidige Top 10 alleen Montenegro, België en Moldavië in aanmerking komen om het te verknallen, anderzijds heeft achter ons alleen Albanië enige kans om voor serieuze dreiging te zorgen.
De Sahara is zonder meer erg droog.

Ik weet niet waarom, maar heb er een goed gevoel bij. Daarnaast vind ik het een prachtige inzending waar ik dagelijks naar luister 
. Ik denk dat fans de kansen van onze inzending een beetje onderschatten. Wanneer Ilse en Waylon onze inzending weten te verkopen (dus o.a. ogen open, naar elkaar toezingen, mooie beelden, heel eenvoudig houden qua graphics/licht) kunnen ze bij de beste 10 van de finale eindigen. Helaas zijn we geen Griekenland of Oekraine als het op staging aankomt en dat weten de fans ook wel. Zelfs Anouk, hoe goed ook hoor, had er denk ik meer uit kunnen halen.

Ik had er al vanaf dag 1 geen goed gevoel over. Kort gezegd: We gaan weer gewoon terug naar het pre-Anouk tijdperk met deze keuze. En het ligt niet aan beide artiesten maar aan het liedje. Puur het liedje.quote:

Het ligt altijd aan het liedje. Je kunt met een goed liedje nog wel slecht presteren als je de performance verprutst (zie Joan Franka), maar een matig liedje opkrikken door een fabuleuze performance is een stuk lastiger.quote:

Ieder jaar rijst weer de vraag: wie sturen we dit keer naar het ESF? Een veel betere vraag is: welk liedje sturen we naar het ESF? En hoe vinden we dat liedje?
