UFC’s Chris Weidman: I was extremely bullied, hospitalized as child

Chris Weidman made headlines this year when he beat Anderson Silva and became the UFC middleweight champion but in a new interview filmed by Bobby Razak the fighter revealed that he may have overcome his biggest challenges long ago, as a child.

"I was severely bullied," Weidman said.

"I didn't really even think about it as bullying up until a year or two ago when I gave an anti bullying speech, and I realized holy crap I was really badly bullied."

The wrestler's brother, a neighborhood tough, was often the one bullying Weidman.

"I grew up in a decently tough neighborhood," he explained.

"My brother definitely had a history of beating me up and abusing me...I grew up getting bullied and fighting a lot. My brother was probably one of the toughest kids from my neighborhood and he didn't make it easy on me. He made sure I was getting beat up as much as possible growing up. If he wasn't beating me up, he was making his friends beat me up. He threw a 10 pound weight on my head because I wouldn't get him a cookie. [It] split plit my forehead open pretty good."

Despite the trauma, Weidman says he was grateful for the adversity because it helped make him the man he is now.

"I think any type of setback you have, any tough time you've got, getting through it is what makes you who you are. It makes you a tougher person," he said.

"I think whatever you've been through in your life makes you a tougher person. I'm very grateful for the background I have, every tough situation I've been through because it's made me who I am."

The kid sounds like he was a monster.

Weidman rematches Anderson Silva this Saturday at UFC 168 when he defends his middleweight belt for the first time.

KO was toch duidelijk voor Browne, daar lijkt me geen discussie over mogelijk. En Miller's armbar was wel goed, maar wel via het been van Camoes en aangezien Ronda al de hele wedstrijd er voor ging en ondanks dat Tate bijzonder goed verdedigde toch nog zo'n cleane armbar weet te pakken vind ik dat eigenlijk ook wel terecht.

wat zijn jullie favoriete events van 2013??
vond de laatste paar events sowieso dik, dus ben die van het begin van het jaar aardig vergeten!
als ik nu moet kiezen denk ufc 165 met jones-gustafson en renan barao

Maar mèn, Silva! Verschrikkelijke manier om niet alleen het gevecht, maar ook je carrière te beëindigen...

Anderson Silva is kicking Chris Weidman, but Weidman sees it coming and lifts his leg and rotates his knee. This is known as "checking a kick." The theory is that, when someone kicks you, you cannot get out of the way fast enough (kicks have long range) and you can't block them like you can against a punch (by putting your gloves in the way). Instead, people "check" the kick, a technique where you decide that if you're going to be kicked, you're going to make them feel pain too. The kicker wants to kick with his shinbone and have it land on a soft-part of their opponent's body, like the side/back of their knee or meaty part of the thigh.

When you check a kick, you put a hard part of your body in the way, and the kick results in bone-on-bone contact, which is painful for both people. A secondary goal of checking a kick - and this is what happened in this fight - is to put a hard part of your body up against a weaker part of their kicking leg. In the GIF above, Weidman successfully got his knee (hard bone) up against the weaker ankle joint or lower shinbone of Silva, and in the collision Silva's bone broke in two. While this looks like a freak injury (and to be fair a broken leg is very rare), it was actually the result of Weidman perfectly checking Silva's kick and shows Weidman's skill and reaction time.

Immediately after the GIF ends, Silva rolled around on the floor in pain and the fight was stopped and declared a win for Chris Weidman. He remains the UFC Middleweight Champion and will defend his title next against Vitor Belfort. Anderson Silva's career trajectory is now unknown as this may be a career ending injury, although he is 38 and was rumoured to be retiring soon anyway.

Moeilijk zeg, ik vond 2013 sowieso veel leuker dan 2012 omdat er toen veel belangrijke fights wegvielen ivm blessures.
Dit jaar hebben we heel wat goeie events gehad.

PPV's: 160, 162, 164, 165, 166, 167, 168

Verder TUF 17 Finale, UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Melendez, UFC on FX: Belfort vs. Rockhold.

Maar ik zal er nog wel wat vergeten zijn.
