'Under the Dome' renewed by CBS

Under the Dome will return next summer for 13 more episodes, CBS announced today.

The drama based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel is averaging 13.84 million viewers this summer and a 3.5 rating/10 share in adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. The series has also enjoyed a big boost on DVR playback and Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, which says Under the Dome has been watched by more customers than any other series on the service.

“It’s the way television should be,” CBS Corp Chairman Leslie Moonves told reporters this morning at the Television Critics Tour in Los Angeles. “It’s the way television can be.”

Under the Dome tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.

Bay & Co. will be back: ABC Family has renewed Switched at Birth for a third season, the network announced Tuesday.

Birth, which is nearing the end of its second season, is “like no other show on television and we are so proud to have it as part of our family,” Kate Juergens, executive VP of original programming and development at ABC Family, said in a statement. “Adding additional seasons and episodes of our returning series spotlights how well our programming resonates with our audience.”

The network has also ordered additional episodes of its freshman summer series The Fosters and Twisted.

The renewal/extensions come a week after the cabler cancelled Amy Sherman-Palladino’s ballet-themed dramedy Bunheads.

Switched at Birth‘s third season is set to launch in January 2014. The drama currently airs Mondays at 8/7c

The cable network on Thursday announced it has renewed the original scripted drama for a third season of 13 episodes for 2014.
The drama stars Rachel Nichols and ranks as the No. 1 original cable drama in its Friday time slot among adults 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers. Factoring in seven-day DVR numbers, the series is averaging 728,000 viewers among the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demo, 836,000 with the 25-54 set and 1.8 million total viewers -- up 21 percent, 18 percent and 21 percent, respectively, from its freshman run.

Deadline reports that MTV has renewed its comedy Awkward for a fourth season. The network has hired new showrunners Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler to replace Awkward's creator Lauren Iungerich who departed at the end of season three's production. Iungerich allegedly did not see eye to eye with MTV's new topper Susanne Daniels. The second half of season three will air later this year.

Starz's "Magic City" has been canceled, the network confirmed Monday. The August 9 Season 2 finale will now serve as the series finale.

Created by Mitch Glazer, "Magic City" starred Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Ike Evans, the owner of the glamorous Miramar Playa hotel in Miami. Set against the political backdrop of 1959, with Fidel Castro taking control of Cuba, the show explored a web of mobsters, law enforcement officials and hotel staff through the lens of the Evans family.

“'Magic City’ will be concluding its two-season run on Starz with Friday's series finale. We are tremendously proud of the series and everyone involved,” Starz said in a statement. “From the writers, to the cast and crew, it has been an incredible collaboration. This was a story born from Mitch Glazer’s singular vision of Miami, the Magic City of his childhood, and we are grateful to him for bringing it to life on Starz. The season’s story arc will allow us to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series, and we thank all the fans who checked in to the Miramar Playa.”

Although the show boasted a high-profile guest turn by James Caan in Season 2 and earned Danny Huston a Golden Globe nomination for his turn as the villainous Ben Diamond in Season 1, it failed to catch on with viewers or critics.

De continue aanwezigheid van die klootzak Randy, die elke 10 minutes binnen komt lopen en dan onmiddelijk aandacht eist voor zijn eigen onbenullige problemen is echt een molensteen om de nek van deze serie, die een stuk beter zou kunnen zijn. Nu is er zo weinig tijd over voor de misdaad van de week dat je bijna meteen ziet aankomen hoe het zit. De humor lijkt ook bijna verdwenen, of je moet Provenza die met een rare bril zijn schiettest gaat doen grappig vinden.

AMC has sentenced The Killing to death — this time for real.

AMC famously pulled the plug on The Killing after its much-maligned second season, only to change its mind several months later. The show’s recently-concluded third season garnered mostly favorable reviews and solid-ish ratings.

Last month’s season finale drew 1.5 million total viewers while scoring a 1.2 household rating — up from the 1.4 mil/1.1 that the drama’s so-so sophomore season finale delivered and on par with its Session 3 average. The rain-drenched police drama launched in 2011 to 2.7 million viewers and a 2.0 household rating, while Season 3 opened to 1.8 mil/1.4.

Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson and Matt Perry have all returned for finale

'The IT Crowd' to return for one-off final episode later this month. The last ever episode of The IT Crowd is to air on Channel 4 at the end of this month (September).

Created by Graham Linehan, one half of the duo behind Father Ted, the office-set sitcom debuted on Channel 4 in 2006 and ran for four series. In May of this year Linehan announced he had locked down plans to revive the show for a special one-off finale and filming got underway later that month. Original stars Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson and Matt Berry have all returned for the final episode.

Now Linehan has used Twitter to reveal that the finale is due to air on Channel 4 very shortly.
The last episode will have a slightly longer 40-minute running time and Linehan apparently wrote the script over a year ago, but filming was held up by the cast members' busy schedules.

Since the last series of the The IT Crowd, O'Dowd has appeared in Hollywood comedies such as Bridesmaids and This Is 40 and Ayoade wrote and directed hit British indie flick Submarine. Meanwhile, Parkinson has appeared in Sherlock and Berry recently guested on an episode of Portlandia.
