We’re excited to announce that The Psychedelic Warlords, configured around Alan Davey, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of the best live albums ever made, Hawkwind‘s Space Ritual (released in 1973) at the 2013 Roadburn Festival on Thursday, April 18th at 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland.

From the archives of oblivion come The Psychedelic Warlords, and they will play Space Ritual from beginning to end for the first time ever on the European mainland at Roadburn 2013. Great effort has been taken to re-produce the exact sounds of all the instruments from Space Ritual to achieve sonic authenticity and re-create (as close as possible), the genre- and brain-imploding classic in its entirety.

“For me this is my favourite Hawkwind album”, says Alan Davey, “So I’m taking great pride in recreating this show to take fans of psychedelic rock back in time for an experience they will never forget.”

Now all Roadburn 2013 attendees will get to experience that golden era of Hawkwind‘s history, and hear in person the classic Space Ritual — many for their first time. A celebration of space, time and psychedelic luminosity with Alan Davey, Vince Cory, Meurig Griffiths, Radio Ray, Rich Om and special guests, this will be something truly special. Featuring members of Nachtmystium, Lord Mantis will embark on their first ever European tour in a three-piece (per)version of the band. Musically, Lord Mantis comes from several places at once: On the surface, the entire package of filth, sadism, oppression and loathing seems to be blackened sludge, but delve deeper and one can hear a perverted sense of melody, next to elements (a galloping rhythm section, slow and claustrophobic industrial dirges, a harsh concrete-like guitar tone) of Neurosis, Celtic Frost and even Godflesh.

Lord Mantis‘ second full-length, Pervertor, is a perfect storm of perverse grandeur, and one can only imagine that all those at Roadburn witnessing the band will be either glorying in their repellent dross and filth or descending into the bleakest, deepest septic sounds of hell, or for the lucky, both!

For years this was a strictly personal endeavor, as the self-taught musician learned and studied his craft of songwriting and minimalistic soundscaping as a means to self exploration, meditation and as a way of channelling negative into positive energy.

Dedicated to his son Wolf, Syndrome‘s second album, Now and Forever, is a guiding light for his son to help find himself. This is accomplished via droning sounds that come in waves of engaging, dreamy (but also bleak), and introspective sounds created by the fluttering voices of layered guitar that create an environment conducive to finding strength, helping others, and knowing no matter how distant the expanse, be it physical or ethereal, his father is there in spirit.

It is with regret that we announce that Hour of 13 will not be playing the 2013 edition of Roadburn. The band will no longer be touring Europe this April and have put all shows and future plans on hold at this time whilst they are on an indefinite hiatus.

This is a loss to Roadburn, but we wish the band all the best and we hope to host them at the festival at some point in the future. A replacement for this place on the bill has been secured, and an announcement will be made very soon.

The overall vibe of their epic but hypnotic freak-outs can be utterly mesmerizing or darker than the depths of the most monstrous of black holes, but all the while remaining deeply psychedelic.
