Heavily inspired by the films of Alejandro Jodorowsky, Magdalena Solis combine kaleidoscopic, sonic swells, both lush and unsettling at the very same time, with sinister Babylonian imagery. The duo’s heavily layered landscapes of swirling synths, grinding organs, exotic rhythms, clanking industrial noise, thick swaths of serious psych guitar and transcendental visuals / projections are as tripped out as the films that inspired them. Magdalena Solis‘ music shifts constantly from tranquil and dreamlike to blown out, heady and hypnotic by way of smoldering, slow build epics that leave you breathless and altered.

We’re excited to announce that Germany’s post-metal experimentalists The Ocean have been confirmed for Roadburn Festival 2013 on Saturday, April 20th at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland.

Thriving on experimentation and ambition, The Ocean, led by Robin Staps, have managed to sonically outdo their obvious influences by adding their own, unique details to the ear-crushing metal meets post rock hybrid sound.

What sets The Ocean apart is the cohesiveness of albums including Precambrian, Heliocentric and Anthropocentric along with Staps‘ ingenious songwriting. The transitions between divergent styles consistently sound smooth and natural as opposed to sudden and forced.

From metallic bombast to proggy-sludge-score, and from art rock to expressionistic doom, jazz, ambient, electronica and even conventional chamber music, The Ocean runs the gamut of genres like no other.

Prior to Godflesh’s Pure blitz (set for Saturday, April 20th), ambient / drone-legend Robert Hampson will deliver a solo performance at Roadburn Festival 2013 on Thursday, April 18th at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland.

Robert Hampson is known amongst drone-rock aficionados as the founder of Loop, a seminal band in recent psychedelic music that combined the sentiment of Kraut Rock with the guitar-driven sonic attack of bands like the Stooges and MC5. After becoming increasingly more experimental, Hampson ended Loop and formed Main, a group that became an extremely important fixture in experimental and ambient scenes throughout its 16-year existence.

Dense cyclical guitar manipulations and analogue electronics pulse, ebb and flow in a hazy, almost psychedelic, maelstrom: at times you could say that Hampson is returning to his Loop roots, but is always jittery enough to push forward rather than simply rely on his past.

Founded by guitarist Rob Wrong and drummer Nate Carson in 1997, this was not yet the Witch Mountain that would come to fruition. In 2009, the addition of vocalist Uta Plotkin transformed the band into something extraordinary with her bluesy, sensual and commanding voice as captured on both South of Salem (2011) and Cauldron of the Wild (2012).

Plotkins powerful and soulful pipes sound almost out of place, but this is exactly what makes Witch Mountain so special. She belts out the bands massive, doomy, bluesy tunes like a metallized Janis Joplin or the lost sister of Hearts Ann and Nancy Wilson who chose the left-hand path.

2012 has been the biggest and best of Witch Mountains 15 year history, says Nate Carson, Two successful headlining American tours, two albums on Profound Lore, a new single, Scion Rock Fest (with Sleep and Saint Vitus), and now this.

It is truly an honor to end this year with the official announcement that we will finally tour Europe. Many thanks go out from us to Roadburn for this fantastic invitation. My only concern is that Cauldron of the Wild LP pre-orders are coming in so quickly that we may run out of vinyl before we get over there! Cheers!
