Oh hier zijn nog wat handige tips gevonden op Reddit.

With the life expectancy of a gnat, most new players barely get to experience the survival-horror aspect of this mod. In order to really get a feel for what this mod is all about, you need to get away from the PvP centers and explore the open world. But, how can you do that in this dangerous world, especially alone? I've managed to stay alive on my current character for over 5 days by following a few simple rules that I'd like to share. Reddit, please read and share your opinions as well!
Rule 1: As soon as possible, get off the coast. It sounds easy, but it can be hard to pull yourself away from what looks like easy loot just waiting to be scavenged. Sure, you can find almost everything you need to survive along the coast, from food to weapons. You can also catch a few stray bullets while you’re there. Getting away from the spawn areas, and the desperate and rage-filled people that pop up there is very important to your survival.
Rule 2: Do NOT eat and drink everything you find when you find it. I’ve seen people give this advice and it is terrible. You need to stockpile enough food for at least 2 meals (food and water) just in case. The best way to conserve food and water is to only eat and drink when you login and let your hunger and thirst build until you logout. As your character no longer uses items while you are logged out, this saves you from eating through your supplies and leaving you with nothing when you login starving after not being able to play for a day or two.
Rule 3: Guns are good, but don’t think that they are all the same. The right weapon at the right time can make all the difference in the world. Silenced handguns, such as the M9SD, are worth their weight in gold. The M1911 and revolver can both kill an infected in a single shot, making them very useful if a bit loud. For primary weapons, you need to make your decision based on what the game gives you. Don’t expect to be running around with a sniper rifle the whole time. Ammo is extremely rare and dangerous to find for most military rifles. The 1866 and the M1014 are your best bet for reliable stopping power from close to medium range, while being common enough to find enough ammo. Rifles are meh to me, use them at your own discretion.
Rule 4: When you hear the infected FREEZE! Learning to utilize ArmA’s movement system is key to surviving the large numbers of infected in the 1.5.7 patch. Never be in a rush to get anywhere! Sprinting is overrated unless you are fleeing a direct threat, just use the default jogging speed to get from point A to point B. If you think there are infected around, crouch. If you think the infected are within 10 meters, crouch-walk. If they are closer, prone and do not move. Always watch the nearest infected and be ready to move in the opposite direction at a moment’s notice! Which leads me to #5…
Rule 5: The Alt key is your new best friend! If you don’t already know it, holding Alt allows you to look freely without moving your body. This is ESSENTIAL to remaining hidden from infected and players alike. By doing this you keep from giving away your position by flailing your character around while checking your 6 o’clock. Always remember to look around whenever you get a chance, catching that bandit that’s been following you will make you glad you did.
Rule 6: Stay the hell away from other players unless you know them. This might sound a bit harsh but its kept me alive so far. When I hear gunfire I turn around and march the other direction, even if I was looting something I needed. You can NEVER be sure if someone will kill you on the spot. Making contact with other players is extremely dangerous, do so at your own peril!
Rule 7: Pay attention to your surroundings! With this new patch even small shacks with no loot will spawn at least 2-3 infected, meaning the world is a much for dangerous place to move through. Deer stands, which are scattered about the map along the edge of forests, now consistently spawn 3-4 infected. These towers, and the infected near them, can be very hard to spot if you are not careful! That empty field might not be so empty after all if you missed the small shack behind a tree. Use your head, use Alt, and maintain awareness at all times.
Rule 8: Finding the right server can be hard, but for lone-wolves low pop servers are best. The time zone of a server is also important. It is hard as hell to see at night but dawn and dusk provide both cover from the infected and enough light to move freely and find loot. Don’t be afraid to be picky with your server. I am located on the US East coast, but I can only usually play in the late PM or early AM, meaning pitch black night for my local servers. For me, the Finnish servers are perfect! I can usually play between 3 and 4am local time, meaning pre-dawn and dawn, which is the best time in my opinion.
Rule 9: Firing your weapon is a last resort. It seems odd, but not shooting is typically your best bet to make it through a sticky situation. Trapped in a building with infected around? Remember: don’t be in a rush to get anywhere! Take it slow and wait for the right time to slip by without a shot. Wasting ammo and, even worse, giving away your position to other players, can be disastrous! Keep enough ammo on you to KILL at least 3 dozen infected. If that sounds like a lot, that’s because there are lots of infected now and you have to be prepared to kill a whole swarm if need be. As soon as the last infected stops twitching, get the hell out of dodge! You never know if someone is heading your way!
Rule 10: Some people won’t like this one at all. If you happen across another player who does not notice you, a choice has to be made. You can either walk quickly, but quietly, away from them or shoot them before they see you. The first option has its drawbacks, but it is the one I support. They might be just like you, scavenging for a living all alone hoping not to get shot, or they might be a cold, emotionless jerkwad who wants your beans. Shooting them, and killing them, will stop them from killing you first BUT, (there’s always a but) they might have friends in the area. If they are on VOIP together, then they will immediately know what’s going on, putting you in extreme danger.
