The French Rafale fighter helping enforce a no-fly zone over Libya destroyed what was identified as a Libyan G-2/Galeb, which is a trainer aircraft, near the coastal city of Misrata. The US official said the Libyan plane may have been landing at the time of the attack. The official cautioned that details were still being confirmed.

Fresh fighting has meanwhile been reported in Misrata, scene of a bitter battle for control which has lasted for many days.
Misrata resident Muhammad told the BBC many large explosions were heard overnight in the city.
"Even now we continue to hear the aeroplanes circling the air above Misrata," he said.

The team of UK pilots flying fast jets over Libya includes a woman who is understood to be the first to undertake combat missions in the RAF's new Typhoon fighter. Women have been flying fast jets in the RAF since 1994, but no more than 10 are flying the Tornado or Typhoon at the moment. However, the number is on the rise, and about 12% of personnel in the RAF are now women.
Flight Lieutenant Jo Salter was the first to break into the ranks of fast jet pilots in 1994, two years after she earned her wings. Since then, a number of women have completed the £3m training course, which whittles down hundreds of potential recruits to a core of 30 deemed capable of becoming "Top Gun" pilots. Two years ago, Flt Lt Kirsty Moore became the first woman chosen to join the Red Arrows.
"There are no bars to women becoming pilots in the RAF," the MoD said. "We have had women pilots in Harrier and Tornado jets, and now in the Typhoons."

France has finally confirmed what ABC News tweeted about three hours ago (1.07pm). This from Reuters.
A French warplane fired an air-to-ground missile at a Libyan military plane and destroyed it just after it landed at Misrata air force base, a French armed forces spokesman said on Thursday. "The French patrol carried out an air-to-ground strike with an AASM weapon just after the plane had landed at the Misrata airbase," the spokesman said, adding that the plane, belonging to Muammar Gaddafi's military, had breached the UN-imposed no-fly zone.

The situation is much quieter than yesterday. Snipers are still in Tripoli street in the city but it seems the coalition bombing yesterday helped to stop tank fire. Part of the hospital came under under fire yesterday. The main problem now, is the lack of medical supplies which are running out quickly because of the number of wounded.
Gaddafi's forces were searching houses and took away many men. Some of the houses only had old men. They were given the Libyan green flag and told to keep them. The soldiers said the men would be arrested if they did not find the flags when they returned.

AJDABIYAH - De Libische rebellen hebben donderdag terrein gewonnen bij de stad Ajdabiyah, 160 kilometer ten zuiden van Benghazi. De rebellen bevinden zich nu 1 kilometer van de oostelijke ingang van de stad. Dat meldde een verslaggever ter plekke.
Ajdabiyah is strategisch van groot belang vanwege de grote hoeveelheid olie die er is opgeslagen. De Libische leider Moammar Kadhafi geeft de stad niet zomaar op. Volgens verschillende rebellen schiet het leger van Kadhafi met tanks en zwaar geschut zoals Grad-raketten. Ook zouden tanks de noord- en westingang van de stad bewaken. Je zou als piloot eerder geneigt zijn om een leuk plekje te zoeken en dan maar alvast op de schietstoel te drukken, moet die het wel doen natuurlijk ( en een parachute bevatten).
