Former nightclub dancer reveals how she had a 'crazy' six-year fling with Gaddafi's son and watched as he blew millions

* Claims he kept suitcases stuffed with bank notes and spent 170m in a single year
* He paid 500,000 for the Pussycat Dolls to perform live at his birthday party
* Allegedly got wildly drunk, offered her cocaine and beat up his servants

Gleaming in a 5,000 white suit, the wealthy young Arab sat mesmerised as he watched a striking dancer gyrate at the Pink Paradise club in Paris. The girl turned and her long chestnut hair caught in a candle, setting it on fire.

Libyan rebels seize British SAS troops-Sunday Times

LONDON, March 6 (Reuters) - Libyan rebels have captured a British special forces unit in the east of the country after a secret diplomatic mission to make contact with opposition leaders backfired, Britain's Sunday Times reported. The team, understood to number up to eight SAS soldiers, were intercepted as they escorted a junior diplomat through rebel-held territory, the newspaper said.

The Foreign Office said in a brief statement it could neither "confirm or deny" the report.

Earlier on Saturday the Geneva-based Human Rights Solidarity group, which employs a number of Libyan exiles, told Reuters by telephone that a team of "eight special forces personnel" had been seized by rebels. Both the Ministry of Defence and Foreign Office repeatedly declined to comment on the group's report.

The SAS intervention apparently angered Libyan opposition figures, who ordered the soldiers locked up on a military base, according to the Sunday Times.

Opponents of longtime Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi fear he could use any evidence of Western military intervention to rally patriotic support away from a two-week-old uprising against his 41-year autocratic rule.

Citing Libyan sources, the Sunday Times said the special forces troops were taken by rebels to Benghazi, Libya's second largest city and epicentre of the insurrection, and hauled before one of its most senior politicians for questioning.

The paper said the junior diplomat they were escorting was preparing the way for a visit by a more senior colleague ahead of establishing diplomatic relations with the rebels.

The Sunday Times said Libyan opposition officials were said to be trying to hush up the incident for fear of a backlash from ordinary Libyans.

Eight SAS men in undercover mission are seized in Libya - by the rebel forces they went to help

An eight-man SAS team was being held by Libyan rebel forces last night after being captured as they accompanied a junior British diplomat on an undercover mission which ended in embarrassment.

The elite troops had been escorting the diplomat through rebel-held territory in the east of Libya as he tried to make contact with opponents of Colonel Gaddafi.

The diplomat had intended to pave the way for a more senior British official to establish diplomatic relations with rebel forces.

But last night the young Foreign Office employee and his armed SAS escorts were locked up inside a military base in Benghazi, the largest city held by opponents of Col Gaddafi.

It is understood the SAS incursion into rebel-held territory infuriated opposition politicians, one of whom told them to warn David Camerons Government that it should recognise the opposition as Libyas legitimate leaders before attempting to open negotiations.

Sources admitted last night that there was huge embarrassment in Whitehall that the SAS mission had backfired.

But there was confidence that the SAS team and the diplomat would be released unharmed within 24 hours after the rebels had made their point. There were no plans last night for a second SAS team to be sent in to secure the release of their colleagues.

MoD silent over report of SAS men captured in Libya

Rebel militiamen in eastern Libya Rebel forces, opposed to Colonel Gaddafi, are in control of much of eastern Libya

The Ministry of Defence says it will not comment on a claim in the Sunday Times that members of the SAS have been seized by rebel forces in Libya.

In a statement, the MoD said: "We do not comment on the special forces."

The paper claims the unit was involved in a secret mission to put British diplomats in touch with rebels trying to topple Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

It says eight SAS men, in plain clothes but armed, were captured as they escorted the diplomat in eastern Libya.

The paper claims the SAS soldiers were taken to Benghazi, the rebel stronghold, where they are being interrogated.

Troops loyal to Col Gaddafi have clashed with rebel forces in the central town of Zawiya in the last few days amid growing fears of a civil war.

The full statement from the MoD read: "We neither confirm nor deny the story and we do not comment on the special forces."

Geneva-based Human Rights Solidarity group said it was aware that a team of special forces had been seized by Libyan rebels but it did not know which country they were from.

Separately, a group of Dutch special forces was apparently captured by Col Gaddafi's forces in western Libya while trying to assist Dutch nationals to evacuate from the country.

Earlier, the MoD had confirmed Scottish troops were on standby to assist with humanitarian and evacuation operations in Libya.

The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, is on a routine deployment notice of 24 hours at an RAF base in Wiltshire.

But they have not been earmarked for a combat role.

Intense gunfire in Tripoli before dawn: witnesses

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Intense gunfire was heard in the center of the Libyan capital Tripoli before dawn Sunday, witnesses said.

It was unclear who was shooting or what caused it. Witnesses also heard a chorus of car horns.

Tripoli is the main stronghold of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi as he faces a two-week-old rebellion posing the biggest challenge ever to his 41-year-old autocratic rule in the oil-exporting North African state.

Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught reports from the capital Tripoli where she says that there has been gunfire heard since this morning. She says it is not possible to identify who is firing and why.

TRIPOLI, March 6 (Reuters) - Intense and sustained machinegun fire broke out in the Libyan capital Tripoli before dawn on Sunday, Reuters witnesses said.

It was unclear who was shooting, which started at about 5:45 a.m. (0345 GMT), or what caused it. Automatic weapon rounds, some of it heavy calibre, echoed around central Tripoli along with pro-Gaddafi chants and whistling and a cacophony of car horns as vehicles sped through the vicinity.

A government spokesman denied any fighting was under way in Tripoli. "I assure you, I assure you, I assure you, I assure you, there is no fighting going on in Tripoli," said Mussa Ibrahim, a government spokesman.

"Everything is safe. Tripoli is 100 percent under control. What you are hearing is celebratory fireworks. People are in the streets, dancing in the square." He added, however: "I would like to advise not to go there for your safety.

Tripoli is the main stronghold of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi as he faces a two-week-old rebellion posing the biggest challenge ever to his 41-year-old autocratic rule in the oil-exporting North African state.

9:05am Anita McNaught, reporting from Tripoli, says that the gunfire has been going on for 3 hours now. I saw police cars taking off from our hotel but I have no seen any engagement. As the morning progressed, we saw pro-Gaddafi forces on foot and in their vehicles, chanting in celebration.

10:32am Funerals have been held in Benghazi for some of at least 39 people killed in an explosion at an arms dump on Friday. The attack is being blamed on Gaddafi's forces. At least 130 more were wounded after the arms depot was struck by two air missiles fifteen minutes apart. Fire Fighters tried to quell a subsequent fire but were blown away by another explosion that ripped through the army base. A local doctor says body parts have been found strewn amongst the debris.

10:09am Everything in the Libyan conflict depends on who you believe, and in the capital, Tripoli, they believe Gaddafi's forces have taken back control of the towns of Az-Zawiyah and Misrata from the rebels. But witnesses have told Al Jazeera the government claims are false.

Morning everyone :)

Libische staats-tv claimt heroveringen oosten
