Op het moment denkt de Arabische liga erover om zelf een no-fly zone in te stellen. Dat is op het moment de beste optie, maar daar zijn de mensen in Tripoli niet mee geholpen.quote:

Ik ben tegen interventie. Het afsnijden van alle buitenlandse steun aan Gaddafi is genoeg. Dan kan hij onmogelijk overleven. Maar dan ook echt alle steun afsnijden en geen oogje toeknijpen als Global CST huurlingen voor Gaddafi invliegt vanuit het buitenland. Voor de rest kun je natuurlijk luisteren naar de Libiërs zelf. Als zij een speciefieke hulpvraag hebben kun je kijken wat er te doen valt.quote:

Het probleem met interventie is dat het direct ten koste van de onafhankelijkheid van Libië zal gaan. Er hangt altijd een gigantische prijskaart aan. Libië is rijk aan grondstoffen en olie en de bevolking kan een goede levensstandaard hebben. Ik zou graag zien dat in een post-Gaddafi de bevolking ook echt de vruchten plukt ipv dat het via no-bid contracts naar de internationale oligarchen gaat.

Gaddafis forces some Libyan some foreign mercenary have attacked the town of Braga (around 60k west of Ajdabiya) during the night and captured it. The news reached Benghazi and Ajdabiya by the morning and weapons were distributed amongst the youth and men there to go to Brega in Benghazi theyve mounted Machine guns and anti aircraft guns on the back of cars and pick up trucks too. The battle in Brega Airport ended around 12pm with the people winning and quickly moved to Brega University with a number of gaddafis forces being surrounded in the University building by pro-democracy fighter, shortly there were air strikes called in by the mercenaries inside the building. The fighter plains bombed the area disregardful of civilians. Thankfully there were no civilian casualties to my knowledge during the air strikes. Gaddafis mercenary forces also captured the port trying to secure a strategic position. However it wasnt long before the pro-democracy youth recaptured and liberated the port.
Parts of the battle spilled over to Ajdabiya to as gaddafis mercenaries fled before that there were air strikes over Ajdabiya at around 9am.
In total 14 pro-democracy freedom fighters were martyred between Brega and Ajdabiya during these battles. The fighting eventually ended at around 5pm. Out of around 75 vehicles from gaddafis forces 45 were captured by the pro-democracy supporters and 6 of gaddafis solders some Libyan nationality not been able confirm they are of if Libyan origin though and some mercenaries. Right now Ajdabiya and Brega are quiet. Units of pro-democracy forces have moved out towards Ras-Lanuf, another oil rich town around 80 to 90k from Brega after the battles there, and another batch of prodemocracy freedom fighters are awaiting a decision tomorrow whether to head to Tripoli or Sirt.

Gates confirmed he had approved the deployment of several ships, including the USS Kearsarge amphibious assault ship, to sail towards Libya, with the Kearsarge due to pass through the Suez Canal from the Red Sea "shortly".
But he said any intervention beyond humanitarian assistance would have to take into account the effect on the US-led war effort in Afghanistan and likely hostile perceptions in the region of US military action.
