Klopt, alhoewel ik vind dat de meeste feiten die naar buiten zijn gekomen niet echt verrassend zijn.

infrared detectors to a Chinese firm for incorporation into
thermal imaging systems. We believe the Chinese firm,
Zhejiang Dali Technology Company Ltd, is actively selling its
thermal imaging systems to Iranian defense entities. Iranian
military access to Chinese thermal imaging systems that rely
on high-grade French infrared detectors could increase the
threat to US and allied forces operating in the Gulf region.
We want to request the Government of France to act
immediately to terminate this activity by Sofradir and Ulis
so China cannot use French components to manufacture weapons
systems and sell them to Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism.

Kurds Play Major Role in Iraq

According to the US embassy the Kurdish leaders are smart leaders. Kurdish leaders such as Talabani and Barzani will likely exploit their political strength among Shia/Sunni counterparts to protect and expand Kurdish influence in a future government, the report notes.

But it also shows that the US sees the Kurds playing a major role to bring a pro-Iranian government to power with the coming to power of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Iran's historic ties to the PUK, and to a lesser extent KDP officials, make the Kurds an important element in ensuring a pro-Iranian Shia victory in the election. INA officials are confident that the Kurds will join their coalition, all but guaranteeing an election victory.

Turkey Is Iran's Rival in Kurdistan

Other parts of the leak show that Turkey is seen as the biggest economic competitor of Iran in Iraq, particularly in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Furthermore in February 2010 Turkey hoped for an early action plan from the US government to elicit more support from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) against the leadership of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). Other documents show the US government is highly suspicious over the Islamist background of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Turkey.

Aangezien het lastig is om eventjes honderdenduizenden documenten te fabriceren, de VS de moeite hebben genomen om vooraf bondgenoten in te lichten, en de waarheid zelf al smeuig genoeg is, zie ik geen enkele reden om te twijfelen aan de integriteit van Wikileaks.

US worry about Turkish PM dependability

Diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks to German news magazine Der Spiegel show US diplomats have doubts about Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's dependability as a partner.

American diplomats distrust Erdogan and his unrealistic views on the world, wrote Der Spiegel.

The prime minister, one of the United States' most important NATO partners, has surrounded himself with "an iron ring of sycophantic (but contemptuous) advisors," writes a diplomat.

Despite his bragging, he is afraid of losing power, according to the dispatches viewed by Der Spiegel. One source is quoted as telling the Americans: "Tayyip believes in God but doesn't trust Him".

Erdogan's advisors, and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, are portrayed as having little understanding of politics beyond Turkey. A high-ranking government adviser, quoted by US diplomats, describes Davutoglu as "exceptionally dangerous" and warns that he would use his influence on Erdogan.

A cable signed by the US ambassador in January 2010 says the foreign minister wants to reassert on the Balkans the influence the Ottoman empire used to exert on the region. But the foreign minister overestimates himself and Turkey, wrote the US diplomats. Turkey, sums up a cable translated into German by the magazine, "has the ambitions of Rolls Royce but the means of Rover".
