Olav Mol zal niet naar Interlagos afreizen om verslag te doen van de Braziliaanse Grand Prix. Dit heeft de RTL-commentator op zijn weblog laten weten. Mol heeft besloten thuis te blijven wegens de verslechterende gezondheid van zijn vrouw.
In plaats van Mol zal Allard Kalff naar Brazilië gaan om de verslaggeving ter plaatse te doen. Mol schreef op zijn weblog: "Allard gaat naar Sao Paulo om de rijders te ondervragen en de voorbeschouwing gestalte te geven. Dat komt zeker goed. Verder kan ik julie beloven dat wij er alles aan gaan doen om een fraaie uitzending te maken van de race die misschien wel de beslissing gaat brengen in het WK van 2009."

Die Belgen zijn helemaal klote als het op sportwedstrijden aankomt. Voetbal of F1 hebben ze beiden gewoon minder door. En commentaar bij algemene samenvattingen (bijv. CL-wedstrijden) baseren ze vaak op Nederlands commentaar (te horen aan opmerkingen die één op één overgenomen worden). Bij de F1 maken ze veel fouten. De BBC zend het toch ook uit? Gewoon op BBC1 afstemmen dus. Nouja, die Jake Humphrey is in principe gewoon de Engelse Allard Kalf, maar toch net een stukje beter.. Qua race commentaar is er geen andere keuze dan Brundle en Legard, de belgen zijn wat dat betreft echt niet beter als Kalff..

FIA presidential candidate Ari Vatanen has admitted the support for rival Jean Todt from Formula One's current power-brokers has come as no surprise as they are trying to block a "mini revolution".
The Finn, who goes head to head with Todt in an election in Paris a week on Friday, believes he has attracted support from more than half of the voting members who will decide on the future chief of motorsport's world governing body.
However, F1's commercial rights-holder Bernie Ecclestone and current FIA President Max Mosley have come out in support of Frenchman Todt, with Mosley having stated in a recent letter to Vatanen's nominated vice-president (sport) for the Middle East, HRH Prince Feisal al Hussein of Jordan, that the 1981 World Rally Champion will "lose badly".
Vatanen told www.thesportbriefing.com that the letter from Mosley illustrated exactly why there needs to be a change at the FIA.
"It was an incredible letter and I was very saddened by it," said Vatanen.
"It's a sad result of a culture where personal politics and power games rule the day.
"We have a totally different approach and are proposing the opposite culture to that.
"The FIA cannot be known as a place for battles. It must be a place where common ground can be found. We need to be accountable for our actions and encourage democracy.
"I couldn't expect anything else from them (Ecclestone and Mosley). They are a continuation of the old power and they don't want the family silver to be served by people who wish to apply modern governance.
"I'm not the owner of the modern governance and it's not static. It's an ongoing evolution.
"At the moment the minority, rather than the majority, is favoured. That's why the FIA is out of breath. We can become dynamic and there is so much potential to be unleashed.
"This whole campaign has lifted my spirits. For a start, it looks promising (for the result of the election). Secondly, regardless of the outcome, I feel so good about the campaign because I know we are proposing a mini-revolution."
Following the news on Monday that Donington Park boss Simon Gillett had been given a final two-week ultimatum by Ecclestone to resolve his financial issues or risk losing the British Grand Prix, Vatanen said: "My gut feeling is that Donington is not feasible any more."
He added: "I'm not against Donington at all, but Silverstone doesn't just represent the highest bidder mentality and we need a balanced approach to developing the sport.
"We should go to certain new parts of the world, but this cannot be done at the expense of the traditional circuits. With the highest bidder approach, it doesn't take into account how much the local market can invest into the race.
"Obviously the FIA must have a bigger role in the F1 calendar, so it doesn't get distorted."

Verder krijgen ze vlak voor de GP wel iedereen te spreken. Ik zou ook graag BBC willen kijken, maar ik kijk altijd Formule 1 samen met mijn vader en aangezien die niet bijzonder goed is in het luisteren naar Engels kijken wij altijd RTL. Ik vond Mol eigenlijk ook altijd best goed in commentaar, natuurlijk maakt hij wel eens foutjes. Hij heeft wel een rustige stem en brengt naar mijn mening alles best professioneel. Beetje jammer dat we nu Kalf hebben. Ik heb die gast nog nooit echt goed in het commentaar geven tijdens een race gevonden. Als het niet live is kan hij het wel, maar live maakt hij altijd grove fouten. Van mij hadden ze wel die man van RTL Rally Report er in mogen stoppen. Die vent vond ik stukken beter. Mosley vows to step back after election

In a letter sent to FIA members on Wednesday, a copy of which has been seen by AUTOSPORT, Mosley said now was the time for him to move away as much as possible from involvement in the organisation - rather than trying to keep a watching brief over what happens.
"I wish my successor and his entire team the very best for the future," he wrote in the letter. "I hope in a modest way through membership of the Senate and the Foundation to continue to stay in touch with the clubs and with the new leadership of the FIA.
"But I will only offer advice if specifically asked to do so. The time has now come for me to step back and enjoy a much quieter life."
Although both FIA presidential candidates Ari Vatanen and Jean Todt have vowed to bring change to the governing body if they are elected, Mosley also made it clear in the letter than he felt his reign had been overwhelmingly successful – especially in dealing with safety and some of F1's recent controversies.
"Early in my Presidency in 1994 we lost Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger. Their deaths led to a fundamental re-evaluation of safety at all levels of motorsport. We established a research group charged with constant innovation and renewal of safety requirements.
"The result has been improved head and neck protection, the HANS system, better harnesses, crash helmets, wheel tethers, survival cell systems and many other innovations, all of which have contributed to a huge improvement in safety.
"The benefits can be seen every weekend in race meetings and rallies all over the world. Without this progress, the heavy crashes during the recent Formula One event at Suzuka might easily have led to another tragic weekend like Imola in 1994."
Mosley also believed he was right to have acted decisively when it came to sorting out the issues relating to the 2007 spy case and the most recent drama surrounding Renault causing a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
"In the last year or two, the degree of controversy about the FIA and my role as President reached new heights. In particular, we had to deal with the theft by a top Formula One team of the entire intellectual property of their main rival.
"More recently we had an extraordinary plot to crash a car deliberately during a race. Again, there was controversy but this time the car manufacturer concerned took action and the truth was quickly established. It is always difficult, but these problems have to be tackled decisively if Formula One is to remain credible."
And although Mosley has openly said he wants Todt to win the election, he told the FIA clubs that he was sure they would choose the right candidate in the October 23 vote.
"I am confident that the FIA will recognise how complex and difficult is the task confronting my successor and his team. The election is a transparent and democratic contest and I know you will choose wisely."

FIA officials lobby for Todt
After Max Mosley publicly voiced his support for FIA presidential candidate Jean Todt, the neutrality of F1's governing body has now been further called into doubt.
The Paris based federation will next Friday stage an election to name Mosley's successor as FIA president, with 1981 world rally champion Ari Vatanen also standing for office. But according to the Daily Telegraph Mosley is not the only high ranking FIA incumbent who is pushing for former Ferrari boss Todt to be elected.
The newspaper has published excerpts of leaked emails showing that FIA director general Peter Doggwiler, and FIA Foundation director general David Ward, have been actively lobbying on the Frenchman's behalf.
One email from Doggwiler is to key sympathisers, advising them "I will call you this week to see where we are so I can make an adequate report to Jean."
An email from Ward reveals he has had conversations "regarding a more intensive lobbying strategy", and indicates his involvement in the formation of Todt's cabinet, while another includes an attachment of Todt's campaign announcement, seeking amendments to the text.
Some of the emails originate from FIA Foundation email addresses, and the Telegraph indicated that the Charity Commission Direct is "sure to take a dim view of Ward's actions".
A leading sports lawyer Oliver Hunt, meanwhile, is quoted as suggesting a "breach of neutrality" may have been committed by the FIA. "I'm not qualified in French law but my understanding of the basic legal requirements for any election process in France is that there is an overriding duty of neutrality," he said.
Meanwhile, a meeting with Mosley ended after three minutes this week when Vatanen was shown the door, according to the Guardian newspaper. It is reported that Vatanen tried to raise the issue of electoral transparency with Mosley, but the Briton showed him the door exclaiming: "I am not arguing with you."
Vatanen is reported to have told his colleagues that he wanted to discuss claims the FIA voters will receive their ballot papers in named envelopes, rather than distributed randomly.

Vatanen thrown out of FIA meeting
