Joining Jools in the studio for the first episode of an eight-week run are Elbow, who return to the show fresh from their March stadium tour of the UK, supporting their fifth studio album Build a Rocket Boys! - the follow-up to their breakthrough big seller and Mercury Prize-winning The Seldom Seen Kid from 2008.

From Greater Manchester - although now London-based - come Liam Gallagher's five-piece Beady Eye, emerging from the shadow of Oasis to make their Later debut with songs from their first album Different Gear, Still Speeding.

Also making her Later debut is the Brian Eno-championed and BBC Sound of 2011 finalist Anna Calvi, leading her trio with her guitar with bluesy, noirish songs from her self-titled debut.

Returning to the show fresh from bandleading Mick Jagger's tribute to Solomon Burke at the Grammys is Raphael Saadiq, retro-soul king and former leader of nu-soul classicists Tony!Toni!Tone! with songs from his latest solo album Stone Rollin'.

Plus introducing Sweden's The Tallest Man on Earth aka solo artist Kristian Matsson, with his Dylanesque delivery and formidable acoustic guitar picking.

Taking a break from acting to pursue a singing career with his blues album Let Them Talk - which features guests such as Dr John and Tom Jones - is Hugh Laurie, and from LA, performing their brand of livewired, straight-shootin', dirty-mouth'd pelvis-pushin' juke music , the band Vintage Trouble.

Making his television debut is east London's Maverick Sabre, performing pop tunes in a hip-hop and reggae style. Completing the line up is Brighton's Derek Meins, aka The Agitator, taking the protest song into the 21st century with a mix of political words and energetic drumming.

Jools is joined by Dorset's own PJ Harvey, who performs songs from her eighth studio album Let England Shake. This, her 'folk-influenced album about the horrors of war', has been widely acclaimed as one of her best.

Also in the studio, from Northumberland, is the folk group The Unthanks. Rachel and Becky Unthank and their troupe perform a couple of songs from their upcoming album.

Swedish singer Lykke Li returns to the show with songs from her second album, Wounded Rhymes.

Joining Jools for the fifth show of this series is Adele, who since her TV debut on the show back in 2007 has gone on to becoming unstoppable with her achievements in the last few months. She is performing numbers from her record-breaking 21 album. R Kelly makes a long-awaited debut on the show to perform tracks from his recent Love Letter album, which sees him pay homage to his influences such as Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke. Californian five-piece Young the Giant make their fist TV appearance playing tracks from their self-titled debut.

Joining Jools for the sixth show of this series are Arctic Monkeys, who made their TV debut on the show back in 2005. The band make a welcome return to the show to perform tracks from their upcoming fourth album Suck It And See.

The legendary singer, songwriter and film composer Randy Newman is also in the studio with a number or two from his new album The Randy Newman Songbook Vol.2.

Leader, arranger and chief songwriter of The Beach Boys Brian Wilson finally makes his Later debut performing a couple of tracks with his current band from his extraordinary catalogue of songs.

Also in the studio, Alison Krauss & Union Station are performing songs from their new Paper Airplane collection.

From LA, female four-piece Warpaint are making their Later debut with tracks from 2010s acclaimed The Fool, and from London, hotly tipped reggae act Gappy Ranks is also performing.

Also in the studio are Staff Benda Bilili, based around a core of disabled musicians who used to rehearse in a zoo, and who have recently been the subject of a film - Benda Bilili! - which appeared at Cannes to critical acclaim.

There's music from The Burns Unit, an eight-piece Scottish-Canadian collective whose sound has been described as 'indie pop meets carnival rock', and whose members include award-winning folk singer Karine Polwart, alt-folk royalty King Creosote and indie queen Emma Pollock.

Seasick Steve performs songs from his latest album You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks, and forms a hobo power trio alongside drummer Dan Magnusson and bassist John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and Them Crooked Vultures fame.

Plus Charlie Haden Quartet West, in which the legendary double bassist, veteran collaborator with Ornette Coleman, Pat Metheny and many more, teams up with wife Ruth Cameron to perform music from his Sophisticated Ladies album, which explores the Great American Songbook.

Canvey Island's guitarist and songwriter Wilko Johnson, particularly associated with the UK rhythm and blues outfit Dr Feelgood, performs classic tracks from their catalogue, joined by the likes of Norma Watt-Roy of the Blockheads and drummer Dylan Howe before they go out on a UK tour.

Joining Jools on the third show of the series is the UK's female folk star, singer-songwriter Laura Marling, with songs from her current LP A Creature I Don't Know. Legendary American singer and showman Tony Bennett performs a couple of songs at the piano from his newest collection of great American songs.

Also, from Nashville, The Silver Seas, who formed when producer Jason Lehning met singer-songwriter Daniel Tashian, son of 60s garage rock legend Barry Tashian of The Remains. They perform songs from their pop rock album Chateau Revenge, which has been described as reminiscent of late-70s AOR recordings. From Jamaica, Jools is joined by reggae singer Little Roy, who has recorded an album of Nirvana songs entitled Battle For Seattle, reworking and giving the likes of Lithium and Come As You Are a new twist and life.

Also in the studio, US duo Joy Williams and John Paul White - aka The Civil Wars - who met at a Nashville songwriter session and have recently supported Adele on her UK tour.

Joining Jools in the studio is a true rock and roll double act: rock legend Metallica have joined forces with Velvet Underground member and musical icon Lou Reed after performing together at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They perform tracks from the album they have made together, entitled Lulu, along with one or two Velvet Underground classics.

Also in the room is American singer-songwriter, political activist and author Steve Earle with songs from his new album I'll Never Get Out Of This World, which is named after a Hank Williams song. He is joined by his current band The Duke (and Duchesses) and wife Alison Moorer.

London-based group Various Cruelties make their TV debut with their infection motown-y love pop songs, and legendary disco and dance pioneer and member of Chic, Nile Rodgers, talks about his life and music.

New Orleans soul and R&B singer Aaron Neville joins Jools at the piano. Plus, more artists to be announced.
