Heb je t over die bootleg? t klinkt ver weg maar voor de rest is t inderdaad beter te pruimen dan die youtube filmpjes.

Vind de kwaliteit nog steeds erg matig maargoed.

Het nieuwe album moet dus voor de zomer klaar zijn lijkt me. Dat ligt wel in de lijn der verwachting. April, mei, juni, één van die maanden wordt het.

Ligt inderdaad in de lijn der verwachting. April/mei óf september. Ook nergens voor nodig om te overhaasten. Hoop dat het zijn vruchten afwerpt!

Dat een band bij wijze van spreken 30 nummers op tape heeft staan, hoeft niet te betekenen dat ze dit als album gaan uitbrengen. Wat ik bedoel te zeggen: Misschien zijn ze wel helemaal niet tevreden over de LA-sessies, willen ze nog wat nummers in Liverpool met James Ford doen? Toch is het niet de eerste keer dat ze 'rustig aan doen'. Dat was ook zo met het debuutalbum. En alles wat ze tot nu toe hebben gedaan is met uiterste zorgvuldigheid gedaan, elke stap. Het voorkomen van overkill is een goed voorbeeld. Om nog maar te zwijgen over alle zorgvuldigheid rondom elke release. Dat willen ze niet zo maar verpesten, natuurlijk. Nou ja, we zien het wel. Ik verwacht na de optredens in Australië wel een béétje nieuws, want dat nieuwe logo is er natuurlijk ook weer niet voor niets.

Maar wat vinden we tot nu toe van de nieuwe nummers? Heb de YouTube-filmpjes vrijwel allemaal links laten liggen, maar heb nu toch een poging gewaagd met de nieuwere opnames. Laat ik ten eerste zeggen dat ik nog altijd niet beoordeel op live-versies. Toen ze "What If You Were Right First Time" in de Melkweg speelden, kwam het totaal niet over en vond ik het simpelweg een slecht nummer. Nu is het één van mijn favoriete nummers. De stem van Alex is op de nieuwe opnames nergens goed te horen, maar ik zal mijn eerste indruk proberen te geven:

"Pretty Visitors" Klinkt tof, maar ik wordt eerlijk gezegd een beetje moe van die tempo-wisselingen, al went het wel. Beetje vergelijkbaar met "Nettles". Geluk is dat deze nieuwe song dan wel weer een erg goed nummer is. Vooral de coupletten, met MC Alex, ritmisch. Beetje Rascals-like. Die band kon ik het begin helemaal niet hebben. Veel te ingewikkeld, al die experimentele geluiden en tempo-wisselingen. Pas na vele luisterbeurten viel het kwartje... Zo ook bij deze song, ongetwijfeld.

"Go-Kart" lijkt inderdaad een knipoog naar Nirvana's "Very Ape". Beetje Strokes-achtige beat. Ik hoor ook wat invloeden van "Sympathy Of The Devil" (whoo whoo!). En ook weer die tempowisselingen. Sta er nog niet van te stuiteren, maar ik denk dat er nog wel veel in zit verborgen. Dit is een potentiële verslavende song.

"Dangerous Animals" klinkt als een mooi duister liedje met sterke vocalen. Nu nog weinig van te maken. Al valt die stuwende ritme-sectie - in elk nummer - wel op. De woestijn heeft ze goed gedaan!

"Crying Lightning" zit vast ook veel in verborgen. Fijne groove, mooie gitaar-akkoorden, en ook Matt gaat weer los. Meer kan ik nog niet echt over zeggen.

Al met al dus nog niet echt onder de indruk, maar wat wil je... Alhoewel, goddámn... Dat intro . Beste intro sinds "The View From The Afternoon"? Hoe het overloopt in "DaFrame2R"...! Alex haalt de noten zelfs!

Ik vond de 'whoo whoo' ook wel een beetje iets van U2 weg hebben, maar nu je het zegt, RS huist er ook wel in. Tot nu toe heb ik Pretty Visitors het vaakst geluisterd, het doet gewoon een beetje aan als een oorlogs mars en dat trek ik wel . Het heeft een beetje de bouw als 'Like Toy Soldiers' (Eminem) om ff een rare link te leggen .

Ik betrapte me er vandaag verder op dat ik Crying Lightning zat te neurien, dus dat nummer begint ook te landen, kan er eigenlijk nog weinig negatiefs over alle 5 de nummers zeggen .

Rewinding back a couple of days, we arrived in Auckland still buzzing from the great start to the tour in Wellington, where any cobwebs were well and truly blown away. Onto the Powerstation and a return to the more intimate venues where the band is within touching distance and fitting all the production's gear onto the stage as well as accommodating support acts is a logistical nightmare. Collapsing Cities and Zane Lowe really fired up the crowd and by the time the Monkeys took the stage the ohms and electricity generated in the Powerstation was off the chart.

The gig was simply awesome, the new stuff really hit home and 'Crying Lightning' stole the show again. And so on to the first of the Big Day Out Festivals. Nursing hangovers we arrived at the site just in time for dinner.The sun is beginning to set and so begins the walk to the Orange stage.

There are still no sign of nerves that they are about to be playing to around 40,000 people. The intro music kicks in and the band walks out to a crescendo of applause. As the day reaches twighlight and the set reaches its climax it is with jubilation but a heavy heart that we say farewell to New Zealand once more. Such a beautiful country... We never did get to sky dive. Maybe next time eh?

"It's been great fun," he said. "We went out to the desert for a little bit, we did two sessions with Josh, we had a great time.

"There's a few other buildings around there but it is certainly cut off. The guy who owns it is called Dave Catching, who plays guitar in the Eagles Of Death Metal, and it's his house. He was a great host.

"It's quite an inspiring place, there's a certain element of dust in the sound of it."

Arctic Monkeys were recently announced as headliners for the forthcoming Oya festival, set to take place in Norway in August.

Alex and his new Fender Jazzmaster

The Arctic Monkeys previewed new songs at the Australian Big Day Out festival…and could be seen with new gear, too! The band started the set with a new song, “Pretty Visitors”. In it, Alex Turner doesn’t play guitar, but plays an old Vox Continental organ. Those old organs are excellent, and bands such as The Beatles used them. The modern equivalent is the Nord C1 Organ, which was directly inspired by the Vox Continental.

On the latest issue of NME, there’s a live review of the Arctic Monkeys gig, and a photograph of Alex and his pedalboard…in the dim-lit stage. But we can see the Vox Continental and his pedals - which seemed to have changed slightly from the last time ’round.

In order, here’s the pedals Alex Turner used at Big Day Out:

Boss LS-2 Line Selector > Boss TU-2 Tuner > Dunlop Uni-Vibe (not 100% sure about this one, but looks like it) > Ibanez TS-808 Tubescreamer > Boss DM-1 Analogue Delay

Note: the Uni-Vibe Alex used is the Chorus/ Vibrato model (two footswitches) and not the current Stereo Chorus Uni-Vibe.

He also had a Morley ABY footswitch.

Queensland, or more importantly, the glorious Gold Coast. Long beaches. Great waves. Surfers Paradise. But lots of sun? My friends out here who told me to expect glorious weather were clearly fibbing.

We arrived on a hot and sticky, but overcast afternoon. By the evening we were experiencing showers, so all we could manage was a quick wander around the town, which seemed more like Malia down under, than the paradise we had been expecting, so we swiftly retreated back to the hotel bar and dug in for the night.

The morning of the Gold Coast BDO we make sure we arrive on site a little earlier so we could check out some of the other artists playing at the festival. It has to be said that The Prodigy, in particular, was one of the best gig experiences of my life. Their stage presence and the crowds enthusiasm combined with a bass capable of bringing on a heart murmur, was immense. Even better was watching the look of horror on the faces of the kids who were staying in our hotel as the scary looking trio of Keith, Maxim and Liam from the Prodigy walked by.

So later on with freshly washed joggers donned and Margaritas all round, the Monkeys take to the stage for their first Australian gig of 2009. With it already going dark, and over 50000 rampaging Aussies dancing and waving glow sticks, Al was on great form- crawling under the piano during Red Right Hand. During the gig Matt received a souvenir from some adoring fans, a flag saying, "Who the fuck is Matthew Helders" which he was very pleased with.



We now have two days off to have some fun in the sun- fingers crossed- on the Gold Coast. Wet and Wild tomorrow! I haven't been to a water park since I was 14! Bring it on.

Iemand een link waar ze nieuwe nummers spelen in goede geluidskwaliteit?
Had er een paar gezien op youtube maar geluid was meestal crap, en dan krijg je ook een verkeerde impressie van de nummers.
Als er al links zijn gepost in dit topic dan mijn excuses, maar heb er alleen een paar met slechte geluidskwaliteit gezien.
Is er trouwens al wat meer info over de tours die ze gaan doen vanaf eind mei (misschien pinkpop) of daarna (lowlands)?

Ik durf er geen geld op in te zetten... Maar ik kan mij niet voorstellen dat ze zo lang gaan stilzitten. Ik ben er nog steeds vrij zeker van ze na hun huidige tournee het album gaan afronden in Engeland, en dat album 3 uiterlijk in mei uitkomt. Anders wordt het scenario 2: Release in eind augustus/begin september, nazomer-festivals.
