Helemaal goed, Chicagoland heeft in hun contract staan dat ze de seizoensfinale hebben. Hebben ze er voor volgend jaar uit kunnen krijgen, en dus heeft Homestead die nu, die in voorgaande jaren in hun contract hadden staan dat ze de seizoensopener hadden.

Doornbos seeking IndyCar drive

Robert DoornbosFormer Grand Prix driver Robert Doornbos says he is close to a deal to race in the IndyCar Series next season.

The 27-year-old Dutchman, who drove for Minardi and Red Bull in 2005 and 2006, is hoping to return to the USA after the reunification of Champ Car and the IRL left him without a drive this season.

He finished third in the Champ Car standings last season with Minardi Team USA and is believed to be in negotiations with the team again, under their new HVM Racing name.

"I'm working really hard to make something happen," he told this week's Autosport. "There seems to be quite good interest from the teams.

"I'm still in touch with HVM because we had a good year last year, but also some other teams.

"It would be really good to do some oval tests. I've no experience of them but it looks like fun."

NASCAR's Barrett switches to IndyCar

Stanton BarrettNASCAR stalwart Stanton Barrett is to switch to the IRL IndyCar Series in 2009, contesting the full season with the new Team 3G outfit.

3G is a partnership between Barrett, marketing veteran Steve Sudler and long-time IndyCar team boss and engineer Greg Beck.

Former stuntman Barrett has been a semi-regular NASCAR competitor since 1992, mostly racing in the Nationwide Series.

"I am thrilled to be joining Team 3G and the IndyCar Series in 2009," said the 35-year-old American.

"I feel the time is right to move to the IndyCar Series. They have a lot of momentum, and I think they will continue to grow in popularity with fans and corporate marketers."

The Beck Motorsport team on which 3G is based have been involved in the IRL IndyCar Series since its inception, but have not found the backing to complete a full season since 2001. Their only appearance this year was at the Motegi round with Roger Yasukawa, as they then failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500.

Beck is confident Barrett can quickly get up to speed in open wheel racing, despite his stock car background.

"Stanton will integrate nicely with the IndyCar Series competition," Beck said. "He has plenty of oval experience from driving in NASCAR, and has road racing experience from early in his career.

"We're excited about being able to announce something this early to run the full season, and it gives us some opportunities from now to the end of the year, even through Stanton's Nationwide programme, to entice some additional sponsorship.

"And it really gives us some concrete things to work on between now and the beginning of the season. With Stanton coming on board, it gives us some components from a driver aspect that are fairly unique."

Barrett intends to continue with a partial Nationwide Series programme around his IndyCar commitments, and also hopes to contest the Daytona 500.

Andretti Green Racing boss Michael AndrettiIndyCar Series frontrunners Andretti Green Racing will run the A1GP US franchise in the 2008/09 season, the team announced on Thursday.

AGR will run the car from this weekend's opening round at Zandvoort, where team co-owner Michael Andretti is expected to announce his driver line-up for the season.

"We are very proud to be representing the United States on the level and competitive playing field that is provided by A1GP," said Andretti. "Andretti Green has been fortunate to enjoy a reasonable amount of success in just six seasons of operation and we're looking forward to joining the world stage of A1GP.

Luczo Dragon Racing has signed Firestone Indy Lights champion Raphael Matos to a multi-year deal to drive for the team as it expands to a full-time entrant in the IndyCar Series in 2009.

Matos won five poles and three races and led 190 laps in 2008 en route to winning the Firestone Firehawk Cup, his fourth championship in a development series in the last six years. He will take the wheel of the No. 12 Symantec car that contested six IndyCar Series races in 2008.

"This is an exciting day for our race team because not only are we taking that step to full-time status, we are adding a young driver who has proven to be a champion at every level he has raced," Luczo Dragon Racing co-owner Jay Penske said. "Any time you can win four championships in six years like Rafa has done you have some special qualities. He is ready for the IndyCar Series, and we are so thrilled to have him."

Matos earned race victories on the road/street courses at St. Petersburg, Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio and won poles on the ovals at Homestead-Miami, Kentucky and Chicagoland. His previous championships came in Champ Car Atlantic in 2007, Star Mazda in 2005 and Formula Dodge in 2003.

"I couldn't be more excited about everything, it's an unbelievable opportunity," said Matos, 27. "We have a very good team. All the pieces are in place. We just need to build a solid base through preseason testing, put everything together and go for it. I can't wait to get started."

Luczo Dragon Racing, which is co-owned by Steve Luczo, debuted in the IndyCar Series with a fifth-place finish in the 2007 Indianapolis 500. In 2008, the team qualified in the top 10 in three of six races and earned an 11th-place starting position at Indianapolis. The best finish was 21st at Belle Isle. In both seasons, the team has divided its profits among 12 charities.

"I am pleased we are in a position to have Rafa join our team," Luczo said. "We are most excited about building a winning program with Rafa and helping others through our charity program. Together Rafa, Jay and I will be selecting a charitable organization in Brazil that furthers our goals to help others through our racing efforts and success."

Miller on IndyCar 2011: Sources say Audi "100 percent" in, Porsche leans towards joining in

SPEED Channel's Robin Miller told Dave DeSpain on last night's edition of "Wind Tunnel" that his sources have Audi "100 percent" in as an engine brand for the new IndyCar Series machines, set to debut in 2011.

Miller also cited his sources in saying that Porsche is leaning "pretty heavily" towards joining the series in the same capacity for 2011 too. You can check out Miller's full interview here.

Let's hope he isn't jumping the gun on this and ends up causing somebody to bail out. If this is true, this would be a major victory for the series.

None of this is a surprise, of course, as both Viso and Wiggins said at the season-ending race in Chicago that these things will happen. Viso only was non-committal at the time because he wanted to explore his options. Apparently, he's exhausted them.

As a refresher, Viso finished 18th in points as a series rookie, and he missed the Nashville race due to illness. His best race finish was a fourth at St. Petersburg.

As for Doornbos, he drove for Wiggins in the final season of the Champ Car World Series in 2007. The team has not yet confirmed either driver.

Het is nog altijd een gerucht, maar wel afkomstig van misschien wel de bekendste IndyCars-verslaggever Curt Cavin. Op zijn blog staat te lezen dat hij een e-mail had gekregen van coureur E.J. Viso over dat hij en Robert Doornbos bij IndyCar-team HVM Racing gaan rijden in 2009.
