You know that beat-down Adrian Peterson laid on Al Harris? It was no accident. Payback for Harris going low on Peterson in last year's game at Lambeau Field. The knee injury Peterson sustained knocked him out for a while. "No grudges, but I definitely wanted to come out and, if I had the opportunity, put a little boom on Harris," Peterson said.

The Titans probably will have to wait to see Vince Young on the field again, although exactly how long isn't certain. An MRI on his left knee had to be postponed until today, the team said Monday. Early indications were that Young suffered some damage to his medial collateral ligament, an injury that could sideline him two to four weeks. Coach Jeff Fisher spoke as much Monday about Young's maturity issues as his injury. The quarterback appeared reluctant to re-enter the game after throwing a second interception and being booed by the home crowd. He sat on the bench alone at one point and brushed off teammates and coaches attempting to console him. When he went back in, he suffered the knee injury a few plays later. "He definitely needs to work through some things, there is no doubt about that,'' Fisher said. "This is not the first time he has been frustrated or he has shown frustration outwardly on the sideline. But he tends to bounce back. He is very competitive. He has a tremendous sense of pride and he doesn't like to make mistakes. ??? I don't necessarily want to see the other side of it, where you have this false chatter and false enthusiasm on the sideline either.''

SAN DIEGO (AP)—Star outside linebacker Shawne Merriman pulled the plug on his 2008 season on Tuesday when he told the San Diego Chargers he’ll have surgery on the two torn ligaments in his left knee.

The loss of Merriman, whose hard hits earned him the nickname “Lights Out,” is a big one for a team that has Super Bowl expectations.

Merriman’s decision came two days after he barely resembled the player who had an NFL-high 39 1/2 sacks in the past three seasons and played in three straight Pro Bowls.

Merriman didn’t immediately return e-mails and telephone calls seeking comment.

“Shawne informed me he did not feel right and thought it best to shut it down,” Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said in a statement. “The road to winning the AFC West just got more difficult, but not impossible. Nothing is impossible. Shawne is a great player and an inspirational leader. He will be missed. We wish him a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.”

Merriman had only two tackles in a shocking 26-24 loss to Carolina at home on Sunday. Even though Merriman appeared to be a non-factor, coach Norv Turner said he thought the linebacker looked “explosive and very physical.”

"I think at one point in time, I will say that we had a good relationship. I think I got too big for Philly, too big for him. I just feel like in a sense that he felt like I was just probably getting too much attention."

The Eagles kicked Owens off their team during the 2005 season -- a year after they went to the Super Bowl -- after a series of infractions, including repeated criticism of McNabb and the organization.

"I feel strong about my position and what happened in Philly, and I really don't feel like it was my fault," Owens said.
