In an exclusive chat with The People, Amanda, 38, talks about being single, her friendship with Catherine Tate and why she was relieved when scriptwriters changed her storylines at the time Madeleine McCann went missing.

Q When you left last year your storylines were rewritten because it was too similar to the Madeleine McCann disappearance.

How did you feel about it?

A As soon as Madeleine went missing I thought “no”. I was very worried and really relieved when they changed it. It was too raw a topic to be dealing with on a soap.

So how does the Sun know about the police files?

Attorney general Fernando Jose Pinto Monteiro told daily newspaper 24 Horas: “From July, the (Madeleine) case will cease to be covered by judicial secrecy, and will be available to consultation by all parties involved. I do not know which date, but in July the case ceases to be covered by judicial secrecy.”

That’s right – this latest McCann story is rooted in an opinion voiced in a Portuguese newspaper.

Says the Mail: “24 Horas speculated the judicial secrecy will end on July 14 - more than 10 months after the couple were named suspects.”

Speculated? But what of the facts? Well, here they are:

The McCanns, both 40-year-old doctors from Rothley, Leics, were made official suspects last September but have never been arrested or charged and vigorously deny any wrongdoing.

It’s Ireland top detective MEP Eoin Ryan.

The Fianna Fail politician was speaking in the wake of a private meeting with Kate and Gerry McCann in Strasbourg.

Referring to previous allegations, he said: “I don’t think anyone believes that.”

He said those allegations have been “poo-pooed”.

Gerry and Kate McCann visited the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday needing another 182 signatures for their proposal to be considered by commissioners.

They are now just 85 short of the number needed following a day-long visit that included a series of meetings with leading MEPs.

And the extra names collected in the past 24 hours, giving them 308 in total, are set to buy them more time.

The McCanns, from Rothley in Leicestershire, travelled to Strasbourg needing a total of 393 signatures by July 24 - the end of the current plenary session - for their written declaration to be published and sent to the European Commission president.

But the couple have since been told that if they pass the 300 mark they will be given until the end of the September plenary to get the support they need.

Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns' spokesman, said: "Kate and Gerry McCann are very pleased with the support of MEPs since their visit. Clearly 85 more MEPs need to be convinced and that work will be continuing very much behind the scenes.

"Kate and Gerry are very hopeful that they can achieve those signatures before the deadline of July 24."

A declaration signed by a majority of MEPs would carry no legal weight but it would indicate a political will to see such a scheme implemented.

The McCanns launched their drive for the US-style Amber Alert in Brussels in April. Madeleine went missing from her family's holiday apartment, in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3 last year.

MADELEINE McCann’s parents have installed panic alarms at their home after receiving threats.

Liverpool-born Kate McCann and husband Gerry are understood to have received offensive and menacing letters and emails, including two that threatened to kill them.

The couple have installed a state-of-the-art the security system at their £600,000 detached home in Rothley, Leicestershire.

The equipment, costing several thousand pounds, is understood to include CCTV and panic buttons in most rooms to alert police in an emergency.

Police are examining the threats to try to track down the senders. One of the most disturbing messages suggested an intruder would target five-year-old Madeleine’s bedroom.

Doctors Kate, 40, and Gerry, 39, have left the room unchanged since their daughter vanished from their holiday flat in Praia da Luz, Portugal, nearly 14 months ago.

A source close to the couple said yesterday: “They have had threats made against them which they find both very worrying and upsetting.

“Unfortunately there are some lunatics out there. There have been lots of offensive and vicious letters, with at least two talking about killing them.

“Security surrounding Kate and Gerry has been reviewed.

“It means they can sleep better at night. They will not let these people break them down.”

There was a surge in abusive mail arriving at the McCanns’ home , after they appeared in an ITV documentary last month.

The source said it is feared the couple’s high-profile visit to Strasbourg last week will trigger more.

Former Notre Dame high school pupil Kate and Gerry were in the French city to campaign for a Europe- wide alert system for abducted children.

A Leicestershire police spokesman said: “Several letters have been passed to us.

“We are investigating threats made against the McCanns.”

The couple made their daughter a ward of court, which empowers judges to act in the little girl's best interests in a legal dispute.

Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns' spokesman, said: "An application has been made on Madeleine's behalf by her parents for the disclosure of certain documents.

"The case and the judgment may be in public and this will be a matter for the court to decide.

"It has been the stated intention of Gerry and Kate to leave no stone unturned in doing everything necessary in the search for their daughter, as would any other parent.

"This application is just part of their search for Madeleine."

Opvallend verder ook dat eerst (zaterdag) de telegraph en toen de Daily Mail met dit nieuws kwam en nu de rest. Clarence Mitchell, slimme jongen hoor. Dat moeten wij denken dat het eergisteren echt nieuws was, maar nee, de copietjes werden vandaag weer netjes verdeeld en gepubliceerd. Kan best iets anders betekenen. Toch iets regelen voor het geval dát...Geef de lezers (en bloggers/fora) een kluifje, gerechtelijke termen zoals Ward of Court snapt toch zowat niemand, benadruk de zoektocht naar Madeleine en laat de rechtbank voor zo'n mooie reden de files overhandigen aan de McCanns, niks aan de hand toch?! Pfff. Als het goed is trapt daar de rechtbank niet in, maar ik geloof dus meer dat dit onderwerp niet eens aan de orde komt. Overigens meldt iemand dat niet alles qua files wordt vrijgegeven volgende maand. Getuigenissen staat er bv niet in, dat is waarschijnlijk ook dé reden waarom de McCanns die oproepen doen om getuigen (al of niet gehoord) zich bij hen te melden...het kwartje valt! En verder is er ook geen nieuws van Bloggers.

It's groundhog day at the Daily Express and Daily Star. Four months after settling in a libel action from Kate and Gerry McCann by giving them £550,000 in damages plus an amazing front page apology, Dirty Des's rags are facing another legal complaint over their coverage of the Madeleine saga.

Last week they received solicitors' letters from the so called 'tapas 7', the McCanns holiday companions, threatening to sue "in relation to a number of articles".

Once again Dirty Des's legal department has issued an urgent edict that all Maddy-related material on the papers' websites must be "removed forthwith". And once again, hacks are bracing themselves for a bumper payout and an abject grovel. Voor de lijder is het echter wel waarheid, hij gelooft erin en zal heftig zijn eigen onwaarheden bevestigen en verdedigen.

Iedere persoon stelt zaken achteraf beter voor dan ze zijn. De wegens dysfunctioneren ontslagen werknemer houdt zichzelf en anderen voor dat hij en zijn werkgever er samen een punt achter hebben gezet omdat de verhouding verstoord was. De afgewezen verliefde houdt zichzelf voor dat zijn geliefde hem niet afwees, maar er nog niet klaar voor was. Door zichzelf dit maar vaak genoeg voor te houden, gaat men in de eigen leugen geloven, en wordt de leugen waarheid.

Voor de pseudologische leugenaar loopt dit proces volledig uit de hand. De geflipte medische student maakt zichzelf wijs dat hij een goede dokter is, de afgehaakte juridische student denkt een advocaat te zijn. Het extreemste voorbeeld is een lijder die zichzelf inbeeldde een beroemd psychiater te zijn, en een congres voor psychiaters wist binnen te komen. Stuk voor stuk geloofden ze hem. Een ander geval was een in zijn carrière gefrustreerd persoon, die zich inbeeldde van allerlei vorsten en koningen, waaronder de Capetingers, af te stammen. Hiervoor knutselde hij zelfs een stamboom in elkaar. Voor buitenstaanders al dan niet doorzichtige leugens worden vaak tot vervelens toe herhaald. Door het zelfvertrouwen dat ze uitstralen doordat ze niet beseffen dat ze liegen kunnen uit deze patiënten oplichters en kwakzalvers voortkomen.

Resultaat is dat een aantal mensen uiteindelijk ook wel gelooft in de verhalen van de persoon, maar dat er ook een aantal is die er dwars doorheen prikt. De pseudologia-phantastica-patiënt zal namelijk niet aarzelen om werkelijk ieder middel te gebruiken om zijn verhalen te ondersteunen, ook de middelen die zeer eenvoudig te controleren zijn. Iemand die in de waan is een hoogleraar te zijn, zou bijvoorbeeld kunnen beweren vele boeken geschreven te hebben. Dit soort dingen zijn eenvoudig na te kijken via bijvoorbeeld het Internet. Mensen die dit dus doen en die niet weten dat de patiënt lijdt aan pseudologia fantastica zullen dit dus als glashard liegen ondervinden, wat een zeer negatief effect op de omgang met elkaar kan hebben.

Deze ziekte dient niet te worden verward met pathologisch liegen, een psychische ziekte waarbij men de onbedwingbare drang heeft te liegen. De pathologische leugenaar weet dat hij liegt, de pseudologische leugenaar zegt slechts dat wat voor hem de waarheid is.
