Carlisle set to reveal new owners

Carlisle United have called a news conference for 1400 BST on Thursday when they will announce a takeover of the club.

No details are being given as to the identity of the new owner.

Local businessman Fred Story is stepping down after four years at Brunton Park.

During Story's time at the helm the club achieved two promotions and managed to reach the League One play-offs last season.


The announcement will be live on BBC Radio Cumbria from 1400 BST.

Football director Steven Pattison is handed responsibility for the school of excellence and youth development.

Andrew Jenkins retains his position as chairman and John Nixon will continue in the role of managing director.

Thirty four shares will remain in the hands of the Carlisle United Trust to be represented by Norman Steele.

Story will remain a major sponsor of the club, but no longer retains the post of director.


Fans have been warned not to expect too many changes in the way the club is run, and chief executive Allen believes the new team has inherited a stable club with potential to grow.

"I think we're able to build on the business model that Fred Story started," Allen told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We've got the same aims to go forward which are to improve."

Carlisle move is ideal - Bridges

Carlisle United striker Michael Bridges says his hunger to play first-team football was the catalyst for his return to Brunton Park. Bridges, 29, joined the Cumbrians on a year's loan from Premier League side Hull City on Thursday and is determined to make the most of the opportunity.

"There was only one place I'd come back to," he told BBC Radio Cumbria. "I'm not happy just to sit around and pick up my money, I want to play football, hence the reason I moved on."

Carlisle manager John Ward has admitted the club had to let striker Joe Garner join Nottingham Forest after the player requested a move to the City Ground. The 20-year-old has joined Championship newcomers Forest in a £1.14m deal after just one season at Brunton Park, following his switch from Blackburn.

Garner, a former England Under-19 international, joined Carlisle from Blackburn Rovers for a club record £140,000 in August 2007. The deal also includes a £500,000 pay-out to Garner's former club Blackburn Rovers along with a 50% cut of sell-on fees.

Danny Graham's hat-trick gave Carlisle a fine victory over Yeovil in a contest between the two teams boasting previously unbeaten records.

Yeovil led after Gavin Tomlin's strike, but Graham grabbed his first just before the interval and put Carlisle ahead after pouncing on a loose ball.

Peter Leven bagged two goals as MK Dons recovered from a goal down to inflict Carlisle's fifth straight League loss.
Former Middlesbrough striker Danny Graham headed in for the visitors after just three minutes, before Leven drove home to equalise before half-time.

De kans is groot dat Tim Krul weer uitgeleend zal worden door Newcastle United. Carlisle United, dat momenteel achttiende staat in de Engelse League One, hoopt de Nederlandse doelman tot het eind van dit kalenderjaar te kunnen huren. De keeper gaat vrijdag met de laagvlieger om tafel. Krul speelde het afgelopen seizoen op huurbasis bij Falkirk en maakte dusdanig veel indruk dat Newcastle United hem terughaalde. Op St. James’s Park werd de Nederlander echter weer niet de eerste keus. Krul speelt tweede viool achter Shay Given, Steve Harper en Fraser Foster en kwam dit seizoen nog niet in actie. Carlisle hoopt dat de doelman een maand in de League One wil spelen.

The Cumbrians zijn op zoek naar een vervanger voor Ben Alnwick, die gehuurd werd van Tottenham Hotspur maar werd teruggehaald door Harry Redknapp. De oefenmeester van The Spurs is niet tevreden met Heurelho Gomes en wil kijken of de jonge Alnwick een beter alternatief is. Carlisle gaat in de winterstop op zoek naar een nieuwe keeper en sluit niet uit dat het Krul de rest van dit seizoen huurt van Newcastle.

De komende maand gaat Tim Krul ervaring opdoen in League One. Newcastle United heeft de Haagse doelman verhuurd aan Carlisle United.

Carlisle United zat om een keeper verlegen nadat Tottenham Hotspur huurling Ben Alnwick per direct had teruggehaald naar White Hart Lane. Voorlopig is Krul de man die de concurrentie moet aangaan met Ben Williams voor de plaats onder de lat bij The Cumbrians.

De twintigjarige Krul maakt voornamelijk zijn minuten met de reserves van Newcastle United. Tot nu heeft hij zich één keer in de hoofdmacht van The Magpies kunnen laten zien. Verder dan het UEFA Cup-treffen met Palermo in 2006 is hij niet gekomen. Afgelopen seizoen was Krul verhuurd aan het Schotse Falkirk. Een schouderblessure maakte toen na 22 wedstrijden een voortijdig einde aan zijn seizoen.
