TMZ has learned Dr. Phil's visit with Britney Spears was not exactly as advertised.

People on the 7th floor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center say the doctor arrived about 7:30 AM Saturday. We're told Britney did not invite him in; she didn't even know he was coming. Sources say it was Brit's parents who told Dr. Phil to go to the hospital. When he walked into her room, we're told, a blindsided Britney walked out -- and eventually came back.

Sources say Phil tried speaking with Spears for about 15 minutes -- not an hour as Dr. Phil's press release states -- but she wanted none of it. We're told Phil was doing almost all the talking. As for walking with her to the car on her way out -- again, as his release states -- we're told if he was walking behind her, that's news to her. She absolutely was not accompanied by him.

Sources say Dr. Phil somehow convinced Brit's mom and dad to be on his show, which will tape Monday and air Tuesday (it was just moved up a day), but as one person put it, "Based on the interaction between Dr. Phil and Britney this morning, it'll be a cold day in hell before Britney goes on his show." We're told she absolutely will not appear on the program.

Sources say Dr. Phil wants to do a television intervention, something that isn't sitting well with some of the people who have known for a while that Britney has a very serious mental condition -- likely a bipolar disorder that is now in the red zone.

TMZ contacted Cedars to find out why the hospital let a television doctor on a floor that has such fragile patients, particularly since Britney had no idea he was coming. It's especially troublesome that Cedars let Dr. Phil go uninvited to Britney's room, since she had already been discharged and presumably had a right to know if someone wanted to visit. A Cedars rep made it short and sweet, telling us, "No comment."

A rep from the "Dr. Phil" show had no comment as well, other than "Dr. Phil met with Ms. Spears at family members' invitation."

"The 5150 legality is very loose," says Dr. Nathan Kuemmerle, a West Hollywood psychiatrist. "The 72 hours are not firm. All it requires is an ER psychiatrist to release the patient. ... If Britney isn't suicidal or homicidal, she doesn't need to be hospitalized."

Postnatale dedressie

De 26-jarige popster zou al tijden medicijnen slikken om paniekaanvallen te onderdrukken en na de geboorte van allebei haar zoons aan postnatale depressies hebben geleden.

Volgens de bronnen is het pijnlijk dat de mentale instabiliteit van Spears haar een slechte reputatie bezorgt als moeder, terwijl ze veel van haar kinderen houdt.

Federline

Spears was de afgelopen dagen in het nieuws, nadat ze donderdagavond had geweigerd haar zoons terug te geven aan ex-man Kevin Federline, die de voogdij heeft.

De politie moest er aan te pas komen, en later ook een ambulance, die de verwarde zangeres afvoerde naar het ziekenhuis. Ze zou een gevaar hebben gevormd voor zichzelf en haar omgeving. Die dreiging zou een dag later zijn geweken, toen Spears werd ontslagen uit het ziekenhuis.

Paparazzi

Weer een dag later zou Spears weer helemaal op de been zijn geweest en het schijnbaar onmogelijke mogelijk hebben gemaakt: ontsnappen aan de paparazzi, die overal op de loer lagen.

In gezelschap van fotograaf Adnan Ghalib, van wie eerder al werd verondersteld dat hij haar nieuwe liefde is, ging ze vrijwel ongezien uit eten. Volgens de restauranthouder was Brit in opperbeste stemming.

Een bipolaire stoornis in combinatie met een alcohol- of drugsverslaving komt veel voor onder de 'groten der aarden'. Vermoedelijk hadden Kurt Cobain, Axl Rose en Jim Carrey, maar bijvoorbeeld ook Vincent van Gogh en Ernest Hemingway er last van.

The Los Angeles-based photo agency that Adnam Ghalib works for, Finalpixx, was yesterday trying to broker a deal with UK newspapers for use of pictures of Mr Ghalib and Miss Spears together.

The images were taken after Spears managed to check herself out of a secure unit at an LA hospital where she had been sensationally taken by police after taking her own children hostage in a custody row with her estranged husband Kevin Federline.
After checking out of the Cedars-Sinai hospital, she joined up with Mr Ghalib, who she has been on/off dating for a few weeks, and two other of his photographer friends and spent time at various safe-houses and hotels in Palm Springs, the Hollywood Hills and Santa Monica.

Pictures around yesterday showed them passionately embracing, walking hand in hand, and arm in arm down the street, and feeding food to one another.

It is not known whether Miss Spears is aware that her new companion is now trying to turn a quick profit on their relationship.

Some sources suggested last night that she may even be in on the deal, in so doing making a profit for herself and also being able to control which pictures of her go out.

Leaving the Cedars hospital on Friday - a day after she arrived - Mr Ghalib whisked her back to her Hollywood Hills home and then another "safe house" nearby.

The photographer has apparently been telling Miss Spears that he can keep her safe from the rest of the paparazzi pack by using the kind of skills he has learnt from his years on the job in LA.
