Ronnie Hellström (born February 21, 1949) is a former Swedish football goalkeeper who has won the Golden ball (Guldbollen) twice, in 1971 and 1978.
During the 1970's he was considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He helped Sweden to a fifth place in the 1974 FIFA World Cup, and also played at the 1970 FIFA World Cup and the 1978 FIFA World Cup. In total he got 77 caps.
Hellström started his career in Hammarby IF, and in 1974 he became a professional with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, where he played 266 Bundesliga matches until retiring in 1984. He did play one match in the 1988 Allsvenskan, for GIF Sundsvall. He was 39 years, 7 months and 18 days at the time. He has later worked as a goalkeeping coach for Hammarby and Malmö FF.
Giuseppe Bergomi (born December 22, 1963 in Milan) is an Italian former football (soccer) player, who spent his entire career at Internazionale and was a key member of the Italian national team in the 1980s and 1990s. He is affectionately referred to as "Lo zio" ("the uncle") because of the impressive moustache he wore even as an 18 year old in the 1982 World Cup. He thus appeared to be more mature in age than he was, hence the nickname. He is considered as one of the greatest Italian defenders ever.
Bergomi made his Inter debut in the 1980/81 season, at the age of 17. The 19 seasons he spent with Inter were often spent in the shadow of A.C. Milan, as he only won the scudetto once: in 1989 (he did win the UEFA Cup on three occasions). With the national team, Bergomi won the 1982 FIFA World Cup, and also played in the 1986 and 1990 campaigns, as well as Euro 88. After being sent off in a match against Norway in a qualifier for Euro 92, Bergomi spent years without getting a callback to the Azzurri, but then received a surprise recall for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He retired in 1999 at the age of 36, after making 81 appearances for his country. He currently works as football pundit for Italian satellite television Sky Italia, and commented the Italy matches in the 2006 FIFA World Cup together with Fabio Caressa.
Bergomi was named by Pelé as one of the top 125 greatest living footballers in March 2004.

Franz Beckenbauer is the only man to have won the World Cup both as a player and as a manager. His roll of honour is unique. Captain of West Germany when they won the World Cup and the European Championship, he also led his club, Bayern Munich, to three successive European Cups and also to the European Cup Winners' Cup. But it is not just for the medals and trophies that Beckenbauer is remembered. Rather it is for the style and the genius. Every movement he made on the pitch bristled with elegance. There was an arrogance in his play that suggested he was always in command - "Emperor Franz" and "The Kaiser" they called him. But more than that, he was a great thinker about the game and brought about a revolution in the way it is played by inventing the role of the attacking sweeper.

Miguel Bernardo Bianquetti (geb.
Hans-Peter Briegel (born October 11, 1955 in Rodenbach, Germany) is a former German football player and manager.
One of the most popular players in his days, Hans-Peter Briegel's original sport was athletics, being successful in various events such as long jump (personal best: 7 metres 50 cm), triple jump and specifically in heptathlon-forerunner pentathlon. Briegel gained his best result as an athlete in Decathlon, but the son of a farmer struggled to compete properly in javelin throw and the high jump. So at the age of 17 he left athletics behind him, playing club football with hometown side SC Rodenbach near Kaiserslautern.
Two years after that he was picked up by Erich Ribbeck and Ribbeck took him to training with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, being impressed by the power and stamina the youngster had to offer. Ribbeck was aware that Briegel struggled to combinate football need with his physical power and presence, but as practice makes perfect, Briegel was improving. Failing to cope the needs as striker, he did a lot better as defender. On April 10, 1976, Ribbeck brought him on as a sub in a 4-3 win over Bayern München. Until 1984 he stayed with local side 1. FC Kaiserslautern before he moved on to Hellas Verona in Italy. It should be seen as one of the best efforts of his career that he also gained his sort of reputation and importance in a league such as the Italian Serie A, largely seen as one of the most technical in Europe. Briegel was an immediate key to success for his new club, surprisingly capturing the Serie A title in 1985 with the Gialloblu. The same year Briegel was named Fußballer des Jahres (Footballer Of The Year) in Germany, remarkable as he was the first foreign-based awardee in the history of the award.
Subsequent to the end of his contract at Hellas Verona, Briegel changed clubs to join fellow Italian top division outfit U.C. Sampdoria of Genua with whom he won the Coppa Italia before his retirement as a player in 1988. Hans-Peter Briegel's success in football, based on his physical constitution, his speed and his tireless running, made him the clearest symbol for the soldier-like reputation of German football in between the years. His nickname Die Walz von der Pfalz is referring to both, his playing style as well as to his origin. Briegel, who scored 47 goals in 240 Bundesliga matches, was a keen proponent of the idea of playing without shin pads and did not wear any in his career.
A Euro 1980 qualifying fixture against Wales in October 1979 gave Briegel his first chance to shine for West Germany and he did, enjoying his final breakthrough for his country in the mentioned tournament. He was, then, part of the runner-up campaign of West Germany at the 1982 FIFA World Cup and featured alike in the less successful Euro 1984, all under the coaching of Jupp Derwall. Derwall's successor Franz Beckenbauer kept him in his squads and, so, Briegel was able to take part in his second successive World Cup in Mexico in 1986. He was a regular, still, but finally the key to Argentinia's winning goal in the final. Three minutes past Rudi Völler's equaliser and seven minutes short of the proposed extra-time, Briegel was, alongside his defending colleagues, hovering near the centre circle of the Estadio Azteca pitch on June 29 when Diego Maradona's pass was going to get on its way to striker Jorge Burruchaga. With his team-mates aware, all moving forward quickly before that pass happened (to put the Argentinian striker offside), Briegel's hesitation worked as backfire for the West Germans, giving Burruchaga the chance to pounce decisively on them. Power-house Briegel tried to catch Burruchaga up in an attempt to dispossess him, indeed, but Burruchaga game-winning shot happened before Briegel's desperate tackle came to happen. With Beckenbauer not a true fan of his way of playing and him not having any intention to stand in the way of the coach to build a new team ahead of Euro 1988, to be held in West Germany, the tall defender quit Die Nationalmannschaft with this, his 72nd, appearance.

Søren Lerby, (born February 1, 1958) is a Danish professional football (soccer) player, who won the 1988 European Cup with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. A left-footed midfielder, Lerby was a player who was always committed and a leader of the team. He played 67 matches for the Denmark national football team, and represented Denmark at the 1986 FIFA World Cup and two European Championships.
[edit] Biography
Born in Copenhagen in Denmark, he played in local clubs B 1903, Taastrup IK and Fremad Amager. He and Fremad Amager teammate Frank Arnesen moved abroad to become professional footballers in 1975. They switched to Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, with Lerby only being 17 years old. He won five Dutch Eredivisie league championships in his eight years at Ajax. While at Ajax, he made his Danish national team debut against the Republic of Ireland in May 1978.
He moved to Germany in 1983, where he was looking to replace German midfielder Paul Breitner at Bayern Munich. Here he remained for three years, winning two German Bundesliga championships. Lerby was selected for the Danish national team at the 1984 European Championship, where he played full time in Denmark's four matches, and scored a goal in the semi-final against Spain, which saw Denmark eliminated on penalty shoot-out. He also played full time in Denmark's four games at the 1986 FIFA World Cup, where he scored a goal in Denmark's 6-1 win against Uruguay.
His career continued for French team AS Monaco from 1986 to 1987. Lerby moved back to the Netherlands in 1987 and was reunited with Frank Arnesen, now at Ajax' rivals PSV Eindhoven. He was a part of the 1988 European Cup winning PSV squad, also including fellow Danes Jan Heintze and Ivan Nielsen, Frank Arnesen being out with an injury for the final against SL Benfica. He was a part of the Danish squad for the 1988 European Championship, before he ended his active career in 1989.
Between 9 October 1991 and 10 March 1992 he spent some time as coach with Bayern Munich, as successor of Jupp Heynckes. With a spell of undistinguished results, including a combined 6-3 UEFA Cup elimination by his former club B 1903, Lerby effectively ended his managerial career and became a FIFA-licensed sports agent. He now lives in Holland again, in the small village of Laren.

Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira (born February 19, 1954), more commonly known simply as Sócrates, is a former Brazilian football player. He was an excelent assister and team organizer, with a great vision of the field. He was also a two-footed player and a great goal scorer. His ability to read the game was highly valued, and his signature move was the blind heel pass. Sócrates is a doctor of medicine, a rare achievement for a professional soccer player (he is a graduate of the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto. Even rarer is the fact that he earned the degree while concurrently playing professional soccer. He is also noted for being an intellectual (he holds a doctorate degree in philosophy), a heavy drinker and smoker, and for his height (192 cm, 6 ft 4 in). Contrary to a popular rumour, Sócrates never played University College Dublin F.C. while a student in Ireland. [2] His brother Raí won the World Cup in 1994 and played for São Paulo and for Paris St. Germain.
As one of the best midfielders in football history, Sócrates played for, and captained, Brazil in the 1982 and 1986 FIFA World Cups. He began playing football professionally in 1974 for Botafogo in his hometown of Riberão Preto in São Paulo state, but spent the majority of his career (1978 to 1984) with Corinthians in São Paulo, where he became famous for using football to challenge the existing military dictatorship. He was capped sixty times for Brazil between May 1979 & June 1986. Sócrates also played for the Italian club Fiorentina and the Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Santos towards the end of his career. In 2004, more than a decade after retiring, Sócrates agreed to a one month player-coaching deal with Garforth Town Football Club of the Northern Counties East Football League in England. He presently works as a practicioner of sports medicine at his hometown.
Pelé named him in his Top 125 Living Footballers in March 2004.
Alessandro Altobelli (born November 28, 1955 in Sonnino, Latina) is an Italian former football player.
Nicknamed Spillo ("Needle") for his slender build, Altobelli was one of the most effective Italian forwards of the late 1970s and 1980s. Following spells at Latina (Serie C) and Brescia (Serie B), he was signed by Internazionale, for whom he played 466 times, scoring 209 goals (128 in Serie A) and massively contributing to his team's scudetto of 1980. For Italy he was capped 61 times, scoring 25 goals: the most notable of which is the third goal in the 1982 FIFA World Cup final, won by Italy against West Germany. He became the first ever substitute to score in a FIFA World Cup final. Altobelli also played at Euro 80, the 1986 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 88, where he played as team's captain. He made 4 sub appearances scoring just after coming on in a 2-0 win over Denmark in the group stages.
