A Briton, who runs a company in the Algarve, has told police he spotted a couple carrying a young child, early on Saturday morning 04 May 2007.

George Burke, from Liverpool, was driving home from nearby Lagos around 6.00am when he caught the two people in his car headlights. 'I couldn't see them clearly because it was dark and windy. They scurried down a side road and out of sight.'

The sighting was subsequently taken up by Metodo 3 and provided a lead story in many newspapers on 28 November 2007. Except this time, the story was presented in a much more dramatic light with the child, now almost certainly Madeleine, being 'cruelly dragged along' by a 'vicious-looking man'.

However, nowhere in the quotes attributed to Mr Burke does he mention that the child was being 'cruelly dragged along the road' or does he use the phrase 'vicious-looking man'.

He says: 'It was very, very dark and it was hard to make out exactly what the couple looked like. But through the gloom I could see a very suspicious-looking man and woman, with a child who fitted Madeleine's description. Though there was nobody else on the road, they were hurrying across a road that leads straight to the train station and marina.'

He adds (but only reported in The Sun): 'They were trying to carry the kid without anyone seeing.'

07/05/07 Lagos, Portugal
Police investigate a claim that a man was seen dragging a girl towards the marina at Lagos, a short drive from Praia da Luz. Bron

Maar wat schrijft de The Times: 'By 3.30am the police had packed it in for the night. The searching was pretty much over. Gerry and Kate were frustrated and desperate. Gerry went out at about 4am with David Payne, another of their group, hoping to find something.

Later, at about 6am, the McCanns went out alone and walked around the scrubland on the outskirts of the village, holding hands and calling Madeleines name. There was nobody else around and they felt utterly alone.'

quote:
Meanwhile, it has also been claimed police in Portugal rushed to make Madeleine McCann's parents official suspects to beat a change in the law.

Eight days after Kate and Gerry McCann were declared "arguidos" in their daughter's disappearance, a penal code was brought in which demands credible evidence before someone can be made a formal suspect.

Yesterday, the McCanns' lawyer, Carlos Pinto de Abreu, suggested police had deliberately acted to avoid the new legal requirements - and friends of the couple accused officers of a smear campaign.

Fernando Pinto Monteiro, Portugal's attorney-general, also admitted that he did not know whether the couple would have been made suspects in light of the code, which came in on September 15.

"The law did not demand justified suspicions at the time in which they were made arguidos," he said.

Mr de Abreu said: "After September 15, a new procedural penal code was introduced making it necessary for there to be evidence against the citizen to make him an arguido.

"Before September 15, it wasn't necessary. You could be made an arguido without any suspicions or evidence against you.

"Now to constitute anybody as an arguido, it is necessary to have evidence in the file.

"That's why the national public prosecutor said that if this inquiry was launched now, maybe they would not have been made arguidos.

"Maybe that's why the inquiry happened then, why they were made arguidos eight days before the new laws came in."

The McCanns were declared suspects at a time when police were under increasing criticism.

The Policia Judiciaria claimed that forensic evidence proved Madeleine came to harm in her parents' holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

But experts at the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham have since thrown doubt on this theory, saying the DNA samples were inconclusive.

The author, Manuel Catarino, editorial chief of Correio da Manha then goes on to accuse Kate McCann of failing to report Madeleine's disappearance to Portuguese police, then pretending she had done so.

He also claims the McCanns holiday apartment showed no signs of having had children in it.

"Pamela Fenn offered herself immediately to call GNR (Portuguese police).

"Kate thanked her — but said it was not necessary because she'd already called them. Maddie's mother didn't say the truth.

"The first phone call to the Guard was made by a Tapas waiter at around 22:40 — more than half an hour after Kate noticed her daughter was missing. The first patrol arrived at 23:00 sharp." Later, the author states "The apartment didn't look like a holiday location where three children jump up and down all day.

"The sofas didn't have a single wrinkle and the chairs were milimetrically aligned. There wasn't a piece of clothing out of place, not even a toy in sight. Only the furry Cuddly bear.

"The kitchen was spotless, without the slightest trace of remains of the children's milk or baby food

If people are seeking to capitalise on their suffering in the run up to Christmas then that is a matter for them and their conscience.'

Volgens The Sun onderzoeken de advocaten het boek: 'The McCanns spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, slammed those behind the book and said their lawyers would examine its contents closely.'

Ondertussen uit een ander arkjel in de Daily Mail: Father of Madeleine McCann 'to be quizzed over new mobile phone data 'The father of Madeleine McCann is expected to be interrogated over new data gleaned from mobile phone records which could solve the mystery of his daughte's disappearance, a Portuguese newspaper has reported. According to Carreio da Manha, investigating conversations and text messages exchanged between Gerry and Kate McCann and the Tapas Nine are top of dectectives agenda in the search to find Maddie.

It is claimed they are currently studying telephone records from the the 10-day holiday and experts have already reported one suspicious exchange between Mr McCann and friend Doctor Russell O'Brien. 'Although the former insisted he was within 4km of Praia de Luz when the pair had a telephone conversation on June 10, technicians have discovered he made the call 40km from the resort, it was reported.

The newspaper claims Mr McCann and Mr O'Brien will be interrogated about the phone call next week in Britain. This information came to light in a meeting between Portuguese and British police in Leicester last week. Former Surrey Police detective and child protection expert Mark Williams-Thomas was present at the summit.

He said to the newspaper in Portugal: 'The mobile phone data was secured by British experts in the 10 days after Madeleine dissapeared. Although not initially analysed, in has now been and will provide vital information.' The McCanns' spokesman Clarence Mitchell declined to comment.'

December 05, 2006 3:38 PM
Vic Walter and Krista Kjellman Report:
Cell phone users, beware. The FBI can listen to everything you say, even when the cell phone is turned off.
A recent court ruling in a case against the Genovese crime family revealed that the FBI has the ability from a remote location to activate a cell phone and turn its microphone into a listening device that transmits to an FBI listening post, a method known as a 'roving bug.' Experts say the only way to defeat it is to remove the cell phone battery.
'The FBI can access cell phones and modify them remotely without ever having to physically handle them,' James Atkinson, a counterintelligence security consultant, told ABC News. 'Any recently manufactured cell phone has a built-in tracking device, which can allow eavesdroppers to pinpoint someone's location to within just a few feet,' he added.

I was also under the impression that the change of law on September 15th related to the right of the defence legal team to have access to the police file. And it is strange that Mr Pinto de Abreu to make these claims now, because it was he who claimed that the McCanns opted to become arguidos during a telephone conversation, after Kate McCann had refused to answer police questions.'

'It does have to be said that looking at matters objectively, there is no advantage to the police in making them arguidos. Indeed by them being so, the investigation has been stalled, and the McCanns have effectively moved beyond the control of the police. Therefore the only people who have gained by the McCanns being arguidos, are the McCanns.'

'This report also offers yet another scenario relating to for why the McCanns were called in for questioning. Because until now the impression was that Goncalo Amaral decided to act because of rumours that the McCanns were preparing to leave the country. There has never been the suggestion that the police acted to get around the change of law.' Het hele artikel: http://trannyfattyacid.bl(...)-alone-with-fax.html

Madeleine: Gordon Brown 'snubs request for No 10 meeing with McCanns'
Last updated at 11:14am on 9th December 2007

The parents of missing Madeleine McCann have demanded a high-level meeting with Gordon Brown amid fears the Government has abandoned their case, it emerged today.

Kate and Gerry reportedly made a desperate plea to the PM to arrange a private summit with their legal team and wealthy benefactors two weeks ago.

But the request is said to have been turned down by Number 10 who will only offer the McCanns a low-level consular meeting.

The Monaco-based businessman urged Brown to hold a 'ministerial level' meeting with Kate and Gerry, both 39, who have faced a barrage of allegations since their return to the UK after Madeleines disappearance from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz 220 days ago.

'Stephen Winyard, who is worth about £30 million and has also offered a £1m reward for the four-year-old's return, said Gordon Brown should have defended the couple after Portuguese police made them 'arguidos' - or suspects in the case - three months ago.'

However, Gerry's sister Philomena McCann, an Ullapool teacher who met Brown in the early stages of the campaign, told the Sunday Herald: 'Gordon has spoken to Gerry, who has been quite pleased with him. Not everybody wants to do everything in the eyes of the media, and Gordon Brown set things in motion at the start.

'I don't think anything's changed, but the Prime Minister has to be very careful in telling other countries how to run their business.'

Madeleine McCann: British police doubted
By Fiona Govan in Praia da Luz

Portuguese police have “little faith” that their British counterparts will be able to solve the mystery of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in new interviews with her parents and their friends, it was claimed today.

Over the next few days Leicestershire police will be asked to interview Kate and Gerry McCann and the seven friends who dined with them on the night their daughter went missing, on behalf of the Portuguese authorities.

The Portuguese detectives believe that – in the absence of conclusive forensic evidence – the key to unravelling the mystery of Madeleine’s disappearance shortly before her fourth birthday could lie with alleged inconsistencies in the statements given by the McCanns and their friends.

“Only the confrontation of all those involved in the case can shed any light upon the events of the May 3,” a high-ranking police source close to the investigation told the Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas.

But he expressed doubts that Leicestershire police could get the desired results, stating: “It will not be easy.”

The Portuguese investigators will only be allowed to sit in on the questioning and make some suggestions.

“It would be different if those involved were directly interrogated by our investigators and were targets of pressure,” said the source.

“But it is very unlikely that the Leicester police will question the statements of the people who will be interrogated.”

If the Portuguese team does not believe British police have answered all the questions, they may request members of the so-called Tapas Nine – the name given to Kate and Gerry McCann and the seven friends who dined with them on May 3 when Madeleine disappeared – return to the Algarve for further questioning.

Clarence Mitchell, the official spokesman for the McCanns, said: “It is a matter for Leicestershire police on their standards, but we have seen nothing has ever given us any cause for concern.

quote:
The McCanns and the seven friends who dined with them on the night Madeleine went missing have met for the first time since her disappearance on May 3, it has emerged.

The "emotional and deeply sad" reunion was held at a hotel near Kate and Gerry McCanns' home in Rothley, Leicestershire around a fortnight ago. The Tapas Nine had wanted to keep the meeting secret but yesterday details of it were leaked by a source close to the McCanns.

"It was a private meeting in a hotel and was the first time that the group had collectively met since Madeleine's disappearance," said the source. "Of course it was emotional and deeply sad for all involved," the source said and also admitted that it was an opportunity to discuss events amid reports that the group are to be re-interviewed by police.

"It was an opportunity for the group to discuss the events of the summer and to talk about what may happen next," the source continued. "They wanted to talk about possibly being interviewed by police again and what that may entail."

The willingness of the friends to meet dispels claims that some of them had fallen out with the couple and wanted to change their witness statements given to Portuguese police. "It was a show of solidarity under police claims that one or two had wanted to change their stories," said the source.

"That is just not the case and the meeting showed that. It was a meeting to express support by the friends and just to see each other again. They hadn't seen each other properly." But the meeting could anger Portuguese detectives who hope to travel to Britain to carry out interviews of the group in the coming days.

They believe that inconsistencies in original statements made by members of the Tapas Nine could hold the key to solving the mystery. Meanwhile a former Portuguese police chief said the McCanns should have been arrested as soon as their daughter disappeared for "abandoning" their children.

"When the parents told police that they went to dinner and left the children at home alone, they confessed to the crime of abandonment and should have been charged on that first day," said Paulo Pereira Cristovao in an interview with Portuguese daily newspaper 24 Horas.
(zo is dat!)

"The penalty of abandonment is at least three years imprisonment," he stated reiterating previous calls for them to face prosecution for their actions. Mr Pereira Cristovao, 38, left the Policia Judiciaria (PJ) in September and now heads the Portuguese Association for Missing Children (APCD), which leads the hunt for missing children in Portugal.

When Madeleine disappeared on May 3 from the hotel apartment in Praia da Luz she became the ninth official missing child in the country but Mr Pereira Cristovao said her case would not be considered by the organisation. "I was asked what I thought about inviting the McCanns to the APCD. I said no, because they're suspects," said Mr Pereira Cristovao.

Commenting on the snub, Mr Mitchell said: ""Madeleine is still a missing child and she went missing in Portugal so we would hope that she would be treated as such by this organisation but ultimately that is a matter for them." telegraph.co.uk
Or roughly 11-12 days ago? When Clarence Mitchell reported the McCanns were to go to a 'secret location'? Pure speculation, of course ...'

En Gerry McCann schrijft o.a op 29/11/2007 'Today there was a meeting between the UK and Portuguese police and forensic specialists from both countries. We have been told that all the forensic test results are now available. Kate and I are very hopeful now that any doubt what these important tests show will be removed. As we have stated all along, we are confident that the results will no way incriminate us and hopefully everyone can concentrate on finding Madeleine and her abductor.' Bron

Ook The Sun meldde al op 21 november: Tapas 7 to be quizzed soon

---------------------------

De Daily Mail schrijft verder:
quote:
'Madeleine would be better served by UK justice,' says Britain's top barrister
Britain's top barrister today attacked the Portuguese legal system over its handling of the Madeleine McCann case.

Bar Council chairman Timothy Dutton QC suggested in a speech in London that "British justiceî would have been more effective in discovering the truth about her disappearance. He said this was because UK police and lawyers would have used a "methodical approach" to establish facts and would "carefully test" evidence before reaching conclusions.

Although Mr Dutton declined to single out specific problems with the Portuguese investigation, his words will be seen as a direct criticism of police and lawyers in the Algarve. "I was heartened to hear public demands for good old British justice during the recent press coverage of the disturbing Madeleine McCann case," Mr Dutton said.

"What was being sought was the methodical approach. This would have provided a well-adjudicated process under which evidence is carefully tested and the issues presented to an impartial jury." His comments follow complaints from the McCanns' supporters about the handling of the investigation."

The parents of missing girl Madeleine McCann have denied reports they met with friends who were present when the four-year-old disappeared to discuss aspects of the case.
quote:
Kate and Gerry McCann, and their seven friends were dining together in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz when Madeleine went missing from the holiday apartment in southern Portugal on May 3.

The meeting, held at a Leicestershire hotel at the end of November, comes weeks before British police are due to re-interview the group over alleged inconsistencies in their original statements to Portuguese investigators.

However McCann's spokesman Clarence Mitchell denied the meeting was to compare notes over the friends' accounts of the night.

“It is the first time the nine have sat down face to face. It was really just a get-together to discuss where they are at,” he said.

“This was in no way to get their stories straight. This is the age of e-mail and phone. They could have done that a long time ago,” he added saying the meeting was as much a show of support by the friends for the McCanns.

'The McCanns will be particularly disappointed at reports that Jose Manuel Pacheco, the Roman Catholic priest who befriended them, has ordered every trace of the Madeleine appeal removed from his church of Our Lady of the Light. The tiny white-washed building became a focal point of the Find Madeleine campaign, and was later searched by police looking for the body. But Friends of Fr Pacheco said he could no longer bear to discuss the case.

"Even when his friends broach the subject he immediately changes it," said one. "He says it is an extremely unpleasant situation and the McCann family only ever brought him problems. "He even told one friend they ruined his life. "There are two completely different Pachecos, the one before the McCanns and this shell of a man after the McCanns. He is a nervous wreck."

I suspect that once the PJ are finally allowed to reinterview the T9 group, that they will bring them all in at the same time to be interogated separately/individually (i.e.: in different rooms) so that the police are able to "divide and conquer" by planting seeds of suspicion that one of the members has "cracked" and is now telling the truth in an effort to save his/her own hide and that will be when their elaborate house of cards finally falls apart and justice for Madeleine will be found.'

Woordvoerder van de McCanns Clarence Mitchell is zo ongeveer SKY en SKY's eigen crime correspondent Martin Brunt lijkt z'n mening tov de MCanns iets te wijzigen: 'Today, the Madeleine McCann story develops into a slanging match between their spokesman and suspect Robert Murat's mother. I understand that some of it is stirred up by reporters looking for an angle, but it's becoming more of a soap opera each day. And I don't know anyone who understands what that detective agency is doing to justify £50,000 a month?'

Suspect's mother criticises Madeleine's parents

The mother of a suspect in the Madeleine McCann inquiry criticised the child’s parents today over the night she went missing. Robert Murat, whose villa is just yards from the spot where the youngster was apparently abducted on May 3, was first to be made an “arguido” in the Portuguese police investigation.

Today, his mother, Jenny Murat, claimed her family was being punished because the McCanns, themselves arguidos, had left the then three-year-old alone in their Praia da Luz apartment. She also claimed Metodo 3, the private detective agency hired by the Leicestershire couple to find their child, had allegedly been bribing witnesses to change their stories.

She told the Evening Standard: “I really wish the McCanns had never gone on holiday to Praia da Luz. I bet they wish they had never come on holiday here either. “The worst part of it is they did something wrong (by leaving Madeleine alone), we did nothing wrong but we have been penalised for their mistake.

“It’s really upsetting. I can tell you what has been going on here has just been horrendous.” Metodo 3 (M3) was hired by the McCanns to carry out a parallel investigation to the police probe into Madeleine’s apparent abduction. Mrs Murat, 71, said: “If they have anybody who saw Robert they are paying them to lie. “The whole thing is one lie from the beginning. We don’t know why, we haven’t got a clue.”

Her son continues to strongly deny any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance. The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they did not want to get into a running argument with Mrs Murat.

But he added: “She is entitled to her point of view but she is entirely wrong when she claims that Gerry and Kate have done anything wrong. “They feel they had taken every sensible precaution possible to care for their children on the night of May 3. Nobody regrets more than they what happened.

“Mrs Murat is also entirely wrong in her claims that she makes about M3. Our private detectives continue to work entirely within the law in whichever country they are operating in on our behalf.”

It was reported today that posters appealing for information in Praia da Luz were now being taken down in the town. Mr Mitchell said: “There was no concerted effort to take down her image. People have naturally been taking down posters here and there.

“As far as we are aware prayers are still being said for Madeleine in the church in Praia da Luz regularly. Kate and Gerry have nothing but fond memories of the people of Praia da Luz.

“They are immensely grateful for the support and affection shown while they were out there. “We accept that if people want to take posters down it’s entirely up to them.” Echo Evening News

Portuguese mayor condemns McCanns: 'They are guilty at least of abandoning Madeleine'
Amidst a growing backlash against Kate and Gerry McCann, the mayor of the town where Madeleine disappeared said yesterday they were "guilty at least" of abandoning their daughter.

Speaking out for the first time, Manuel Domingues Borba suggested they were to blame for their daughter's disappearance from Praia da Luz on May 3. In an astonishing outburst, the former policeman accused them of "extreme negiligence" and said they should never have been allowed to leave Portugal, adding that "the parents are arguidos for a reason".

The scathing attack comes as residents of the holiday resort turn their back on the family, taking down appeal posters of the missing four-year-old in a week of vicious smears against the couple. Mayor Manuel Domingues Borba: 'The parents are arguidos for a reason'

Mr Domingues Borba, 70, said: "For the parents to have left Maddie who was not yet four years old with her twin brother and sister who were barely two – just babies – all alone in a foreign country. "They left their children sleeping alone in the resort. I, personally, would never leave my children sleeping alone and go to dinner in a foreign country.

"I consider the parents guilty of negligence at the very least. "There was a total abuse of trust and extreme negligence." He went on: "But I trust the Policia Judiciaria explicitly. I trust they will solve this. Still missing: Madeleine McCann has not been seen since May 3 "The parents are arguidos for a reason. If they are suspects it's because there are suspicions upon them.

"They are guilty of at least abandonment – in the least." The mayor who has run Praia da Luz for 14 years also condemned the McCanns for leaving Portugal the day after they were made suspects. "I personally don't agree with them having been allowed to go back to England and be interrogated there. "The little girl disappeared here, the investigation is here, the parents were made 'arguidos' here but the law says they can be interrogated there, so be it," he said.

"But it is curious. As soon as they were made arguidos they did what they had said they would never do – leave. They did so in a great hurry, they never even passed through security, they went through the VIP gate." In a further blow for the McCanns, Mr Domingues Borba cast doubt on the theory that Madeleine had been abducted.
Although he stopped short of directly accusing the parents of being responsible for her death, officials from the town hall said they now believed Kate and Gerry McCann accidentally killed Madeleine. He said: "The majority of locals, Portuguese and British too, all say that the parents created this situation. The community in general, the majority believe they are guilty at least of creating the situation – the disappearance or whatever happened.

"This tragedy occurred because of the parents. This case must be investigated to the last. We cannot pay for what they created."The leader of the Junta de Freguesia never met the McCanns when they were in the resort. But he also pointed the finger of suspicion at the McCanns' friends.

He said: "If and I emphasise if she was abducted, whether she is dead or alive now, I think she must have been followed by somebody from England, somebody who came along with them. "If she was abducted it was by somebody in their group or that knows them well. "Are the parents guilty? Did they somehow have something to do with her disappearance? That's difficult to answer," he said.

"I, as a father, you know if I was in this situation and I was being pointed at as being guilty I wouldn't like it. The situation of the car though – that's very, very dubious. "I think she must have been killed and was transported in the car. The way in which the case has been presented to us by the media, with the car seems to indicate that they are guilty.

"But who am I? I cannot pass judgement. "Maddie's case, I believe it was not abduction. She's just classed as missing until the police find out what actually happened to her. "This case must be solved. It cannot be allowed to remain a mystery, a stain on our community." Mr Domingues Borba emphasised that Praia da Luz was still extremely safe and tourism had not suffered because of the case.'

Last night the McCanns' spokesman Clarence Mitchell reacted angrily to the mayor's comments. He said: "Where is his proof? He has not got any damn proof. "It is not true that Kate and Gerry were involved. "He is not a police officer and has no access to any of the details of the case. "Whenever Kate and Gerry were in Praia da Luz everybody around them was incredibly supportive and kind towards them.

"These comments we feel are unrepresentative of the majority of Portuguese people. "We are disappointed that this sort of comment is still being made, particularly when it is based on no proof whatsoever." Daily Mail

'We know who took Madeleine and she'll be home by Christmas' claim McCanns' private detectives
quote:
The private investigator hired by Kate and Gerry McCann to find their daughter said today he knows who took Madeleine and is close to reuniting her with her parents. Francisco Marco said the missing four-year-old has been kidnapped by a paedophile ring and is being held in north Africa or the Iberian Peninsula.

In his boldest claim yet, the director general of Metodo 3 also said he hoped the McCanns will have their daughter back by Christmas. He said: "We know who kidnapped her. We believe she is in an area not very far from the Iberian peninsula and north Africa. And we have a fairly certain idea of who she is with.

"I cannot say who she is with because we are putting together conclusive proof we can present to the authorities so they can proceed with their arrests." Insisting he believed Madeleine was still alive, Mr Marco added: "God willing, I hope she'll be back with her parents before Christmas."

The Barcelona-based Metodo 3 has been working for the McCanns since September and Mr Marco has already travelled to Morocco to follow up a reported sighting of a blonde girl with the same distinctive marking as Madeleine in her right eye. However it is not the first time the agency has made extremely optimistic, occasionally reckless, claims about the case's progress. Last month Francisco Marco againt told a BBC Panorama team that teh agency was "100 per cent sure Maddie is alive."

He added: "We're sure she was abducted and we are very, very close to finding those responsible." The claim caused an embarrassed Clarence Mitchell, the McCann's official spokesman, to brief the media that the private detective had simply got "carried away". The agency claims to have around 35 investigators working on the case and is being paid £50,000 a month by the Find Madeleine Fund.

Mr Marco also promised last month that he would find Madeleine, who disappeared on 3 May from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in the Algarve in Portugal, before Metodo 3's six-month contract runs out next March. Mr Marco said: "I have always said publicly Madeleine is alive. I have to believe it 100 per cent because I know how to look for living people, not dead ones. But I have no proof Madeleine is alive.

"We have proof of her movements after her kidnap and we know she was alive the day after her disappearance. We are not certain she left Portugal. "I talk of certainties because we know which group may have her or could have kidnapped her to then sell her on to others." He continued: "One of the things that makes us believe Madeleine is alive is that every day she's worth more to them. It's obviously not a kidnap carried out by professionals for economic reasons.

"A professional kidnapper would have done something with Madeleine by now. He would have given her back or left her." Metodo 3 has been criticised by Portuguese police as "small fry" and "irrelevant". Relatives of Robert Murat, who remains an official suspect in the case, have accused the agency of trying to frame him by pressuring witnesses into changing their statements.

In the interview with the Spanish newspaper-Metro, Mr Marco added: "It's the highest pressure case I've ever had to deal with, because of the press and because of my own family. "When I get home at night, my children ask me, 'Have you found Madeleine yet, daddy?'"

Dismissing the suggestion of any involvement by the McCanns, who were declared official suspects in their daughter's disappearance after she vanished from the Ocean Club apartment complex, he said: "You only have to spend five minutes with them to realise they've got nothing to do with this.

"To this day there's no proof of any traces of blood in the flat. In the boot of Gerry and Kate's hire car, so people say, there's traces of a tiny hair that could be Madeleine's. "But that would be completely logical and normal being the family's car."

Repeating his earlier promise to find Madeleine before March, he said: "We have a six-month contract. We have always said we want to fulfill it by finding her." Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the McCanns, said the family has "absolute confidence in Metodo 3". Daily Mail

"Apparently some forums are saying that a cousin of Kate McCann had her daughter abducted a few years ago (not sure when). She was later found at an airport a short while after.(it is not clear if she was really abducted and found or just got lost and found).

There was a thread about this that got deleted. The allegation your referring to was put forth here by a poster TheRevs. According to him, Kate's grandmother (last name Howard) had a daughter Moira Osborne. This aunt of Kate's (Moira)had a husband, who staged a kidnapping of their 3-year old daughter at the Bali Airport in 1999. I think he said January 16, 1999. Another poster (can't remember her screen name) confirmed this allegation. But, there's nothing about it on-line, no independent verification or links. All heresay and rumor was as far as it got.

I participated in that thread because my interest was peaked, as was yours. The only thing that did seem to come out of it, which was linked is this: Moira Osborne works for the Children's Centre on Isle of Man. Someone named Sharon wrote the Isle of Man paper in July, complaining that wristbands were being sold around the island and the profits donated to the Children's Centre, where Moira works." Bron

Van de McCanns-site: 'Madeleine’s fund is a non charitable not-for-profit company, which has been established to help find Madeleine McCann and to support her family and bring her abductors to justice. Any surplus funds will be used to help families and missing children in the United Kingdom, Portugal and elsewhere in similar circumstances. If there are surplus funds Madeleine’s Funds can be converted into a charity.'

Nee, something fishy is going on, very fishy indeed!
