Tijd voor een nieuw tournament en wel met een van de leukste genres: de avonturenfilm! Echt een precieze omschrijving is er niet voor het genre. De Van Dale heeft er dit over te melden:

1 speelfilm waarin het vooral gaat om de avonturen van de helden

avon·tuur (het ~, -turen)
1 iets ongewoons, spannends of onverwachts dat iemand overkomt => belevenis, lotgevallen, wederwaardigheden
Maar welke titel kun je nou wel een avonturenfilm noemen en welke weer niet? Redelijk lastig eigenlijk. Om het wat gemakkelijker te maken heb ik een paar simpele criteria opgesteld:

  • Een film dient minimaal 45 minuten duren en daarbij genomineerd + twee keer (!) ondersteund worden. Bij een groot tournament lijkt het me beter om twee in plaats van één ondersteuningen te hebben, omdat dan een in potentie populair tournament wellicht overspoeld raakt met obscure snobavonturenfilms .
  • Verder geldt Moviemeter dit keer als leidraad en niet Imdb. De reden hiervoor is dat bij Imdb Apocalypse Now, 2001 ASO en Monty Python onder avonturenfilms geschaard worden, wat naar mijn mening onzin is. In bepaalde grensgevallen wil ik wel coulant zijn en een uitzondering maken, mocht dat nodig zijn. Naast de avonturen-top 50 van MM kun je ook hier zoeken op dit genre in combinatie met andere criteria om te kijken welke avonturenfilms je wilt nomineren.

    Moeilijk genre idd. Ik vind heel veel films altijd een xgenre-film met avonturen elementen. Er zijn weinig films die ik echt als avonturenfilms beschouw.

    Als genoeg mensen een genomineerde film niet avonturenfilm genoeg vinden sneuvelt die wel op stemmen, lijkt me. Ik ga er tenminste vanuit dat mensen stemmen op wat ze de beste avonturenfilm vinden en niet op wat ze beste film vinden.

    Mjah ik denk dat de definitie nu toch wel redelijk duidelijk is. Een avonturenfilm heeft een vrij herkenbare structuur: Introductie karakters, omgeving plus aangeven wat het doel is van de film --> de spannende weg naar het bereiken van dat doel --> de uitkomst (wordt het doel wel of niet behaald) + afloop.
    Veel films volgen dit schema, maar bij avonturenfilms is deze structuur nòg duidelijker aanwezig, waardoor ze ook erg geliefd zijn bij grote groepen filmkijkers (kinderen, hun papa's en mama's), zeker als er niet teveel actie, geschiet en ander 16+-gerelateerd materiaal in voorkomt .

    Wat dat betreft zijn Gladiator en The Lion King twijfelgevallen en haal ik ze vooralsnog er tussen uit. The Lion King is vooral een beschrijving van Simba's onstuimige leven en anders kun je ook veel andere Disney-tekenfilms (niets ten nadele daarvan overigens), zoals Sneeuwwitje, Bambi etc. opnemen in dit tournament.

    Indiana Jones, LOTR, Jurassic park, Mad Max, The Mummy, Back To The Future etc heeft toch bijna iedereen gewoon gezien toen ie of klein was of gewoon omdat iedereen dat deed.

    Vroeger maakte ik nog niet zulke afwegingen, bovendien vond/vind ik het geweldige films.

    In het geval van Harry Potter kan ik je opeens wel helemaal begrijpen.

    Indiana Jones deel 3 heb ik niet zo veel behoefte aan en bij toeval vroeger nooit gezien. Maar ik vind dat O Brother eigenlijk wel een kans verdiend.
    LOTR heb ik volledig gezien, maar dat wilde ik ook.
    Jurassic Park deel 2 viel me destijds al zo tegen dat ik deel 3 echt niet hoefde te zien.
    Met Mad Max ben ik op de een of andere manier nog niet in niet-doel-bewuste aanraking geweest.
    The Mummy en Returns had ik direct een hekel aan, maar deel 2 toch eens toevallig op tv gezien.
    Back to the Future is te lang geleden, die delen haal ik allemaal door elkaar. Die kijk ik nog wel eens allemaal.

    Pirates heb ik toevallig ook volledig gezien, maar absoluut niet omdat ik zo'n behoefte had om deel 2 en 3 te kijken.
    Wat betreft King Kong (geen reeks natuurlijk) vind ik de '33 versie voorlopig even genoeg.

    Maar de standaardfilms uit dit genre spreken me ook niet erg aan. Ik houd meer van de films die in de marge van dit genre liggen, zoals Le Salaire, Derzu Uzala, 2001, Lawrence, O Brother, enz.

    Ik ben al lang blij dat dat NNJ-drietal niet meedoet. Voor mijn gevoel heeft die ongeveer aan alle tournaments van afgelopen jaar meegedaan.
