Former Ferrari driver and Formula 1 reject Eddie Irvine has blasted Kimi Raikkonen's driving so far this season and praised Felipe Massa's impressive form. Irvine believes that Raikkonen is doing a very poor job, especially in comparisson to Massa and that he needs to get hsi act together, or stop drinking.

This is what he had to say about Ferrari's season so far:

"I think Felipe's done a great job. He looked stupid in Malaysia, but you have to say that he was all over Hamilton. He looked like he could have got him. Raikkonen then pulled up behind him when Massa went off and he couldn't even get close.

Felipe's been bloody quick. In Malaysia he probably should have taken it a bit easier and got more points but since then he's done a fantastic job. Raikkonen just hasn't been on the pace the whole season really. Massa has been on top of him in winter testing and the first four races.

He's (Raikkonen) going to have to get his act together or stop drinking because if he's not winning he can't be drinking."

Now, I am not even going to get into this. Eddie Irvine was a Formula 1 failure and does not deserve to be commenting on drivers who are far superior to him. If I went on a rant whenever Eddie Irvine opened up his big mouth, there would be nothing on Ferrari 1 but insults and exclamation marks.

Prodrive is opening up its motorsport headquarters at Banbury to the public on July 14 & 15 to raise money for charity.

The business, which runs the Subaru World Rally Team and Aston Martin Racing, and which is entering Formula One in 2008, will give fans the chance to get behind the scenes of one of the world’s largest motorsport facilities.

Johnny Herbert and David Brabham will be driving the Aston Martin DBR9, while the team performs live Le Mans-style pit stops on the car. The Subaru World Rally Team will be setting up its World Rally Championship service park in the grounds and carrying out timed services on Petter Solberg’s Impreza World Rally Car.


Prodrive is opening up all its workshops with staff on hand to explain how the company designs and manufactures all the components and systems for the five different cars it assembles on the site: Subaru Impreza World Rally Car; Subaru Impreza Group N; Aston Martin DBR9; Aston Martin DBRS9 and the Aston Martin Rally GT.

The Aston Martin car display will include some of the famous Bond cars, including the DBS from Casino Royale, while the display of Subaru road cars will include artist, Benedict Radcliffe’s, wire-framed sculpture of the Impreza. In Prodrive’s heritage centre, visitors can see fully restored race and rally cars, including a 1996 Colin McRae Impreza and Richard Burns Safari rally-winning World Rally Car.

A full scale simulator will give rally fans the chance to see how it feels to ride with Petter Solberg on his record breaking run through the Ouninpohja stage at the 2004 Rally Finland.

There will be driver signing sessions and the opportunity to buy team merchandise at specially-discounted prices, as well as an auction of motorsport memorabilia. There is food and entertainment for all ages, with special activities, including quad biking, for young children.

Each day starts at 10am and all proceeds go towards the Oxford Children’s Hospital appeal.

McLaren, Mercedes, split over supercar

Rumours of a rift between McLaren and Mercedes-Benz have emerged in the specialist motoring press. The duo are closely aligned in the world of formula one, with Mercedes-Benz providing works engines and owning the largest slice of Ron Dennis' company.

But Automotive News Europe reports that, despite their collaboration on the $600,000 SLR supercar, Mercedes is actually getting ready to pair with its German car partner for the DTM touring car series, HWA, for the SLR's successor.

Other sources said Mercedes had been "disappointed by the performance" of the original SLR, which is built at McLaren's F1 factory.

A Mercedes-HWA prototype could be ready in time for next year's Geneva motor show, the rumours continue.

Mercedes' decision could lead Woking based McLaren to go it alone with its own new supercar - a successor to the fabled McLaren F1 - that will be fully funded by the formula one team.

It is not known if the supercar split could impact the F1 collaboration, but it is likely to quell speculation of a total McLaren buyout by Mercedes in the near future.

Daar kies je toch voor als je Formule 1 gaat rijden. Zoveel mogelijk verschillende feedback lijkt mij goed, dan wordt het gehele pakket alleen maar beter i.p.v. feedback van 1 of 2 coureurs. Wat?! Kampioenschappen bekijk je per jaar. Het kost je echt de kop als je als team je auto maakt als een instapmodel voor iedere coureur.

Ze zijn bij McLaren echt niet bezig de auto van Alonso alvast gebruiksklaar te maken voor een eventuele volgende/andere rijder. De auto niet perfect kunnen afstemmen op de coureur is een gebrek aan kunnen van het team. De coureur moet zich ook aan kunnen passen aan de autoen als dat lukt en de twee komen elkaar halverwege tegen dan zie je het maximale potentieel van een auto. Wat heb je er in hemelsnaam aan als je testcoureur zegt dat de auto niet lekker rijdt terwijl de race-coureur 'm net zo goed mogelijk en naar zijn wens heeft af laten stellen?

En Ferrari was behoorlijk snel. Terwijl McLaren weer een klap sneller was in de Monaco-variant. Dus het kan inderdaad enige indicatie geven. Dus misschien een goede kans voor bijvoorbeeld Renault om eens goed punten te scoren.

Jos Verstappen zegt nog steeds in beeld te zijn voor een testsessie bij Spyker Formula One Team. De afgelopen maand kwamen berichten naar buiten dat Verstappen in september op Spa-Francorchamps zou gaan testen in de Spyker. Een woordvoerder van de renstal heeft echter laten weten dat wordt vastgehouden aan de eigen testrijders. Verstappen bestrijdt dat. ,,Ik heb teambaas Michiel Mol van Spyker aan de lijn gehad. Switzerland lifts motor racing ban

Switzerland has finally lifted a more than fifty-year ban on organising motor racing events such as Formula One.

A photograph in the country's national newspaper Blick showed politicians celebrating the occasion by spraying each other with champagne.

The ban fell back in 1955, after more than 80 spectators died in a crash at Le Mans.

But in parliament this week, it was lifted when 97 votes defeated 77, with politicians arguing that motor racing would be of benefit to Swiss car component manufacturers and tourism.

Those opposed said motor racing was damaging to the environment and would promote hooligan driving on the roads.

The news, however, instantly sparked speculation of a return of the Swiss Grand Prix; an event that was last held at the Bremgarten circuit and won by Juan Manual Fangio in 1954.

"But where are we going to build this apparent circuit?," a sceptical Beat Zehnder, BMW Sauber's team manager, wondered in Montreal.

"Talking about a Grand Prix is, I think, simply unrealistic," he added, explaining that Switzerland can probably not compete with big-spending countries like Abu Dhabi and South Korea for a spot on the calendar.

Versailles aast op Franse Grand Prix

De Franse stad Versailles, zo'n twintig kilometer onder Parijs gelegen en vooral bekend van het kasteel van Versailles, hoopt in 2009 de Grand Prix van Frankrijk te mogen organiseren. Het departement Yvelines, waar Versailles de hoofdstad van is, heeft dit woensdag aan de Franse sportkrant L'Équipe laten weten. De race zou verreden moeten worden op een stratenparcours, dat langs het kasteel loopt.

Dit jaar wordt de Grand Prix van Frankrijk waarschijnlijk voor het laatst gehouden op Magny-Cours. Met name de bereikbaarheid van het circuit bij Nevers laat veel te wensen over. De Franse autosportbond FFSA liet eind maart weten naar een nieuwe locatie te zoeken voor de race in 2009. Formule 1-baas Bernie Ecclestone sprak zijn voorkeur uit voor een race in het centrum van Parijs, maar dit lijkt niet echt realistisch. Ook Disneyland bij Parijs wordt genoemd als een mogelijke locatie
