Detective Chief Superintendent Anne Harrison, of the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), said it was possible Madeleine was still being hidden in Praia da Luz.

She also appealed for anyone who took a part in the initial search for her, before the Portuguese police arrived, to contact police on 0800 0961233.

Police have teamed up with a number of computer companies to deliver the technological power behind the website and the collection of photographs. As well as uploading them, police say the public can take any photos they might think relevant to high street photography shop Jessops, which will convert traditional prints to digital images for free.

A number of UK law enforcement agencies are helping the Portuguese authorities, including Leicestershire Constabulary, the Association of Chief Police Officers, CEOP and the NPIA.

Tot zover maar de snippers mijnzerzijds, het lijkt mij meer relevant iets te melden uit de bladen als er echt wat nieuws is, alhoewel ik het ergste vrees en daar ben ik niet de enige in.

Dat zullen andere mindere draagkrachtige ouders, dus uit een lagere sociale klasse, ook ongetwijfeld denken maar ik zou hetzelfde doen als ik de middelen en mogelijkheden had, zo dubbel ligt dat. En dat het zo'n mooi peutertje is spreekt ook veel mensen aan.

Jeetje, daar had ik nog niet van gehoord, er is ook voor alles een syndroom kennelijk. Maar goed er is nog geen enkele vooruitgang/doorbraak in het onderzoek behalve dat de eerste DNA-testen niets uitwijzen, overigens is er geen DNA van de vermiste peuter veilig gesteld, zoals van een tandenborstel, wel van de ouders: "None matches the DNA of Briton Murat or his Russian business associate Sergey Malinka, 22, who has been grilled. Nieuwe verdachte in zaak verdwenen Britse meisje
(Novum/AP) - De Portugese politie heeft een nieuwe verdachte op het oog in de zaak van het verdwenen Britse meisje Madeleine McCann. De politie zoekt een blanke man van 1,78 meter met een leeftijd tussen de 35 en 40 jaar, zei onderzoeksleider Olegario Sousa vrijdag op een persconferentie. De man zou op 3 mei, de dag waarop Madeleine verdween, een meisje hebben gedragen. De man was gekleed in een donkere jas met een beige broek.

"De man droeg een kind of een voorwerp dat voor een kind kon worden aangezien", zei Sousa tegen journalisten. De politie heeft tientallen tips over de mogelijke verblijfplaats van Madeleine nagetrokken en is nog bezig andere tips na te trekken, maar van het meisje ontbreekt tot dusver ieder spoort. Ook Interpol verschaft informatie.

Eerder bestempelde de politie een 33-jarige Brit als verdachte. Na verhoor werd de man weer heengezonden.

De ouders van Madeleine worden volgens eigen zeggen door schuldgevoelens verteerd, omdat ze de toen 3-jarige Madeleine alleen met haar broertje en -zusje van 2 in hun hotelkamer hebben achtergelaten. Gerry en Kate McCann zeiden in een interview met Sky TV er niet aan te moeten denken dat ze zonder hun dochtertje uit Portugal naar Engeland terug moeten keren. De ouders waren op 3 mei in het restaurant bij het hotelcomplex in Praia da Luz in de Algarve gaan eten terwijl hun drie kinderen lagen te slapen. Toen ze gingen kijken hoe het met de kinderen was, bleek Madeleine te zijn verdwenen. Het schuldgevoel 'zal ons niet loslaten' zei Gerry McCann. The police had this information for three weeks, but did not divulge it because of their peculiar rules governing the conduct of criminal inquiries. Maar overeenkomsten van die man en de nog steeds verdachte Robert Murat worden niet bevestigd of ontkend: "The BBC's correspondent said police were publicly playing down the similarities between the man described and the only official suspect in the case, Robert Murat." Ook The Mirror maakt hier melding van: "Yesterday it was claimed child porn was found on the computer of the only suspect in the case, Briton Robert Murat, 33. The witness was on her way to join Gerry and Kate McCann for dinner near their apartment in Praia da Luz at about 9.30pm on May 3 when she saw the suspect. He was hurrying away from the area clasping a child wearing pink pyjamas similar to those worn by Madeleine, then three."

Daar was al eerder sprake van in eerdere berichten en ook die Rus Surgey Malinka (zakenrelatie van Murat en geen verdachte, alleen getuige, maar loog over hun bewezen recent tel. contact tijdens de avond van de vermissing, hadden zogenaamd al een jaar elkaar niet gesproken) onfrisse beelden op de computer. Ik ben ook nog steeds nieuwsgierig waarom de ex van Murat niet wil vertellen waarom ze destijds zijn gescheiden. Als het niks bijzonders was kan je dat toch gewoon zeggen?

Ook in de haven van Lagos marina wordt onderzoek gedaan en een mogelijke connectie met Murat: "The British sailor police seek had a yacht moored at Lagos marina in Portugal for several years but is now understood to have left the area. Police found “suspicious references” in his communications with Murat. A man was also seen carrying a child at the marina, raising fears Maddie was smuggled out by sea."

En worden experts ingezet om de mobile telefoontjes na te trekken van verdachte Murat: "So far no evidence has been found linking Madeleine’s disappearance with Murat, 33, who lives in Praia da Luz and viewed child porn on his computer.But cops will check his version of events at the time she was snatched against his phone “trail”. Ook de DailyMail meldt het havengebeuren: "Detectives have been questioning four boat owners - three of them English - whose vessels are moored at the marina in Lagos, a town about five miles from Praia da Luz. They are also trying to trace a British man who left the harbour in his yacht about three weeks ago after mooring there for two years. A witness has reported seeing a man carrying child in his arms down to the marina hours after four-year-old Madeleine disappeared."

En het nachecken van de telefoontjes: "A team of telecommunications specialists is trying to track mobiles in use around the resort in Portugal where little Madeleine was abducted. The technique, which is based on the silent transmissions mobiles send even when they are not in use, can pinpoint a phone's position to within a few yards."

"Detectives hope to use the information about phone movements on the night of Madeleine's disappearance to check against statements made by guests and staff at the Ocean Club complex."

En de fouten van de Portugese politie blijven maar toenemen, naast het niet veilig stellen/onderzoeken van DNA-sporen op Madeleine haar spulletjes is het geven van een juiste grootte van de gezochte persoon (die gezien is op de avond van de vermissing met mogelijk een kind in de armen) kennelijk ook moeilijk: "Incredibly, the error appears to have been made through a simple mis-conversion of centimetres to inches. In Portuguese, police declared that he was 170cm tall, which is 5ft 7in. Then in English, they said he was 5ft 10in. The extra three inches would make a crucial difference between a "tall" suspect and one of average height. Thus, important information from other potential witnesses might have been lost. To add further confusion, a Portuguese police press release gave a height of between 170cm and 175cm, which is between 5ft 7in and just under 5ft 9in. Dat idee krijg ik ook, ja, het verhaal moet natuurlijk draaiende gehouden worden, het is een goudmijn immers.

Ik houd nog steeds de ouders zelf als mogelijke 'daders' in gedachten.

Voor een deel heb je gelijk maar ik kijk ook heel veel naar het BBC-news (+Newsnight) en de berichten over de Portugese politie en de verdere onderzoeken over personen kloppen best wel. En verder lees en bericht ik al die verhalen niet over het persoonlijk reilen en zeilen van de ouders en hun wereldtournee want dáármee staan de bladen echt knettervol. Van al die ellenlange lappen tekst haal ik enkele relevante zinnen. Maar oke, dan niet hoor.

Even een P.S. nog: ook de BBC meldt de fout: "But the family said on Tuesday that police had got a crucial fact wrong in the description of the man. The height of the man given on the Portuguese press release was 170cm (5ft 7ins) but it mistakenly appeared as 5ft 10ins in the English version."
