Recap:
From the HBO super-hit, The Sopranos. Ten years ago, The Sopranos was why I got the HBO. This past week’s episode, Michael’s character Christopher expired. He knew about it for a year now, but had to keep quiet about it. He really didn’t have much of a problem keeping a lid on the news. How did his friends, family, and fans react? He’s received flowers, condolences, and sympathy cards. Friends have called to ask if he’s doing OK. Michael says in lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. And what about the rest of the season? What happens next? Michael won’t say; can’t say.
Growing up, Michael was a big Jon Voigt fan. He first saw Midnight Cowboy when he was 11 years old; probably too young to watch such a film, but it somehow became a Christmas Eve tradition to watch Midnight Cowboy with his father and brother. (Sounds a bit odd, although some people drink to excess to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Everybody has their own way of doing things.) A few years ago Michael got the chance to work with Jon Voight in a film and told him the story. Voight found the story very heart-warming and beautiful . . . adding, “It’s very sick, but beautiful.”
Michael just returned from a trip to Iceland. At this time of year, the daylight remains well into the night. And when night falls, it only gets dusk-ish, not black at all. He describes the city as incredibly clean, the streets are spotless, everyone is extremely polite . . . and then the weekend comes. Everybody gets to the drink and indulge well into the . . . duskish night. By the A.M., you hear many fights and screaming and hooting and hollering by the revelers. You finally get to sleep and then when you awake, the streets are again spotless and quiet with everyone once again extremely polite and courteous.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Iceland lately and it’s on my list of places to go. And their water, Iceland water, is the only bottled water I drink.
But let’s get back to The Sopranos. What’s going to happen next? Well, since Michael’s character is dead, he decides to spill the beans. He gets in to what happens in the final episode. And then a CBS test pattern suddenly appears on the screen. The next thing we see is a couple Tony’s thugs in the Late Show tape room destroying the tape.
I guess we’ll have to wait to find out what happens on The Sopranos.
The Sopranos – Sunday nights at 9:00 on the HBO, and then repeated at other times throughout the week.
