quote:Four volcanic quakes at Mayon volcano
At least four volcanic quakes and moderate steaming were noted at Mayon Volcano in Albay in the last 24 hours, state volcanologists said on Wednesday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) also said a fair crater glow can be seen by the naked eye Tuesday night.
"The seismic network around Mayon Volcano recorded four volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours. Steaming activity from the crater was moderate with white steam clouds drifting towards northwest. Fair crater glow (Intensity II- can be seen by naked eye) was observed last night," it said.
Phivolcs said Alert Level 1 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano, reminding the public not to enter the six-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ).
It cited the continuing threat from sudden small explosions and rockfalls from the upper and middle slopes of the volcano.
"Active stream/river channels and those perennially identified as lahar prone areas in the southern sector should also be avoided especially during bad weather conditions or when there is heavy and prolonged rainfall," Phivolcs added.
In Sorsogon, Phivolcs recorded two volcanic quakes and three rockfall events from Bulusan Volcano in the last 24 hours.
Steaming activity at Bulusan's thermal vents was "wispy to weak" while no steaming was observed at the summit crater.
Meanwhile, Taal Volcano in Batangas remained relatively quiet, registering no volcanic quake in the last 24 hours.
Alert Level 1 also remained over Bulusan and Taal

JAKARTA, Indonesia — One of Indonesia's most active volcanos has erupted, sending lava and searing gas clouds tumbling down its slopes.
Volcanology official Agus Budianto said Friday that authorities were still trying to evacuate residents living along the slopes of Mount Karangetang.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage.
The 5,853-foot (1,784-meter) mountain is located on Siau, part of the Sulawesi island chain. It last erupted in August, killing four people.
Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, is located on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanos and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
The eruption happened hours after a massive earthquake in Japan that triggered a Pacific-wide tsunami.

March 11, 2011 in Earthquakes, Volcanoes.
The major earthquake that hit Japan today may have just triggered some volcanoes in Russia as well. While reports are still vague on the incident, there is a strong correlation between the two occurrences. In Russia, there are reports that earthquakes where felt during the eruption.
According to dziennik pl world (translated):
In the Russian Far East, there has been a strong volcanic eruption. The air got a great cloud of volcanic dust, which can pose a threat to air traffic in the region.
Local experts warn that, dust can rise up to a height of seven kilometers.
Explosions were accompanied by minor earthquakes. Russian service monitoring the activity of cones, however, ensure that the implemented measures guarantee the safety of residents of neighboring towns.
According to Russian media reports, the first cloud of dust covered the city of Ust-Kamczatsk. Over five thousand people are forced to stay at home. The authorities have recommended the strict ban on opening windows.
The population, however, was not evacuated, and experts say that the dust does not constitute a great danger. Despite this, from Thursday, all offices of state institutions and organizations have suspended work – except in cases of emergency. For some time, also closed roads in the region.
While this eruption does not seem to be a significant threat to the people in Russia, the fact that an earthquake in Japan could have triggered a volcano eruption in Russia does have some significance.

(anp/gb)
Was net rustig daarquote:Japanese volcano re-awakens after few weeks
TOKYO -- The weather agency says a volcano in southern Japan is spewing ash and rock again as the country struggles with the aftermath of a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in the north.
The Meteorological Agency issued a warning Sunday saying that Shinmoedake volcano resumed activity after a couple of quiet weeks.
The mountain is on Kyushu island, 950 miles (1,500 kilometers) from the epicenter of Friday's magnitude 8.9 earthquake and resulting tsunami, which devastated much of the country's northeastern coast.
It was unclear if the eruptions were linked to quake. Japan lies on the "Ring of Fire" - an arc of seismically active zones where earthquake and volcanic eruptions are common.

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The Ministry for Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan informs that mud volcano Shihzeyirli located in Gobustan region erupted yesterday.
The Ministry reports that the eruption was accompanied by emissions of mud and fire that rose to a height of over 50 m. Currently, the eruption continues with less intensity. The height of emissions does not exceed 1-2 m. Deep cracks formed around the crater.
Ministry’s rescue services are operating in the area of eruption. At that, the eruption is reportedly not to pose any threat to the population or agriculture.

quote:Karangetang volcano spews again
Jakarta: At least 600 people have been evacuated to temporary shelters a day after Indonesian authorities issued a red alert for the Mount Karangetang volcano, a volcanologist said Saturday.
The volcano, located on Siau island off the coast of Sulawesi island, began spewing jets of hot clouds and lava Friday, prompting authorities to order the evacuations of three villages on its slopes.
Indonesia's chief volcanologist, Surono, said eruptions were continuing Saturday but there were no reports of casualties.
Surono's office Friday raised the alert level for the volcano two notches to the highest level after a series of eruptions.
'We have no choice but to order an evacuation because people were at risk of being affected by the hot clouds,' said Surono, who like many Indonesians uses one name.
He said 582 people had been moved to temporary shelters provided by the government.
Karangetang is one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes. Four people were killed during the volcano's eruptions in August last year.
Indonesia sits on the so-called Ring of Fire, an area known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
More than 300 people were killed in a series of eruptions at the Merapi volcano on Java island between October and November last year.
