Michael Joseph Jackson (29 Augustus, 1958) is een Amerikaans muzikant, artiest, entertainer en pop icoon, die al sinds zijn zevende voor goede muziek én schandalen zorgt. Hij staat bekend als een van de meest succesvolle artiesten allertijden met meer dan 750 miljoen verkochte platen (Guiness World Records). Door zijn opvallende clips, zijn herkenbare stem en zijn flitsende dansbewegingen was hij in de jaren '80 een van de grootste artiesten, waarna zijn populariteit langzaam aan daalde. Hoewel zijn muziekcarrière de laatste jaren op een laag pitje staat komt hij nog regelmatig in het nieuws door o.a. het zogenaamde kindermisbruik waarvoor hij in 2005 gelukkig is vrijgesproken.

The Jacksons to reform in £250m deal

Michael Jackson is expected to make his comeback with a string of gigs across America estimated to earn him £250million.

Aides of the troubled singer are in the final stages of negotiating a deal which will see him joined on stage by all the other members of the Jackson Five.

The group - which last regularly performed together 23 years ago - is lined up to play 250 concerts in Las Vegas over the three years from next year, when Jackson will be 50. Further concerts around the U.S. and the world are planned.

There are also wide-ranging plans to build a Michael Jackson theme park, casino, hotel and stadium in the Nevada city. The deal, which is also expected to earn millions in merchandising and product endorsements, will immediately clear debts - estimated at £170million - the singer is reported to have accrued.

Jackson became a pariah after allegations of child molestation in December 2003. He was acquitted of all ten counts but his career - already long wanting a hit album - had gone into freefall.

His debts forced him to sell his Neverland ranch and he has since lived a somewhat nomadic existence. In recent weeks he and his brothers have been in negotiations with Jack Wishna, the producer responsible for taking Celine Dion to Caesar's Palace.

Former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller - who brokered David Beckham's record-breaking move to LA Galaxy - is also understood to be involved in the negotiation.

A source said: 'There was initially some concern about Michael's image, which has taken quite a battering with the child molestation allegations. There were also concerns over whether Michael would be keen on performing in front of a large audience after so long away from the stage.

'After all, the last time he performed was at the World Music Awards in London - it was a very badly received performance.

'So a plan was hatched to get the rest of the family tied into a deal first. They were offered a deal to reform - for a much smaller payday - and were told that if they got Michael on board, the figure would skyrocket.

'That's when the rest of the family got working on Michael - and it certainly seems to have worked.

'Initially there will be a "best of" album, two new tracks will be recorded, there will be the stint in Las Vegas, then the U.S. and the world. They are already talking through product endorsements. The only reason no announcement has come yet is because Michael is a notoriously erratic individual.

'He has been requesting all sorts of additions, like finding a secure high-walled home for himself and his children in the Nevada desert for the duration of the Vegas concerts.'

Another source added: 'The deal being thrashed out is astronomical. There has been talk of a theme park, museum, casino, hotel and stadium for Michael - complete with Jackson memorabilia, videos, rare footage, casino, rides and concert halls.

'One of the reasons Michael is so keen on the plans starting in Las Vegas is because his hero Elvis made the town his own'

Jackson's attorney Brian Oxman confirmed negotiations were under way but described any figures as 'totally preliminary'.

Hmm, weet het niet. Op zich denk ik wel dat het goed voor MJ en voor ons kan zijn; hij verdient er miljoenen mee en gaat zelf weer optreden (wat ie natuurlijk zelf ook vast wel wil). Wij zien hem weer op het podium staan, wat we eik allemaal wel willen. Zolang er op hun tour ook MJ nummers worden gespeeld (kan me niet voorstellen dat dat niet gebeurt) vind ik het wel een leuk idee. Bovendien is 2007 het jaar van de comebacks, dus.. Jackson 5 kan er ook nog wel bij.

Als ze gaan touren zal het een soort 'Greatest Hits' tour worden denk ik. Hij zal echt geen nummers doen die hij nog nooit heeft gedaan, en nieuwe nummers betwijfel ik ook. Ik kan er wel Who Is It, Liberian Girl, Give In To Me, ..noem ze maar op.. opzetten, maar die doet hij toch niet.

Daarom hoop ik liever op zo'n funky setlist.

TOKYO (AP) — Amid a lavish party filled with fans, impersonators, orphans and handicapped children, Michael Jackson said Thursday that he wouldn't change the path of his career, despite "deliberate attempts to hurt me."

The reclusive pop star, in Tokyo for several "fan appreciation events," was the guest of honor at a party where about 400 people paid $3,500 each for a buffet dinner, a show featuring several Japanese Jackson impersonators and a chance to take photos with Jackson. More than 100 orphans and handicapped children were invited for free. (en anderen moeten wel betalen? XD)

Wearing sunglasses and dressed in a black-and-gold Roberto Cavalli suit, Jackson appeared on the stage at the end of the six-hour party to read a brief thank you.

He did not perform. But in comments to The Associated Press, Jackson reflected on his career, which he is trying to revive after his 2005 acquittal on child molestation charges and a series of other legal battles over his personal finances.

"I've been in the entertainment industry since I was 6 years old," he told AP. "As Charles Dickens says, 'It's been the best of times, the worst of times.' But I would not change my career." (Michael is echt slecht met datums, want eerst was het nog 5 years old.. )

Jackson, 48, appeared relaxed and comfortable back in front of his fans. He said he was not bitter over his succession of difficulties.

"While some have made deliberate attempts to hurt me, I take it in stride because I have a loving family, a strong faith and wonderful friends and fans who have, and continue, to support me," he said.

Those fans have been out in force since Jackson's arrival in Tokyo on Sunday.

A screaming mob greeted him at the airport, and organizers said tickets to the two main events — Thursday's VIP party and another, larger party directed at his main fan base on Friday — sold briskly. Jackson was also scheduled to tour a U.S. Army base just south of Tokyo on Saturday.

Jackson, one of the best-selling artists of all time, has lived abroad since his acquittal, forsaking his Neverland Ranch in California for Bahrain, France and a castle in Ireland.

But in a telephone conversation from Las Vegas with the Associated Press in January, he said he had returned to the United States and planned to stay there for the time being.

Even so, Japan continues to be his home away from home. This is Jackson's second trip to Tokyo in less than a year.

"Japan is one of my favorite places to visit in the world," Jackson told the crowd Thursday, reading from a statement. "I want to thank all of you for making me the biggest-selling artist in Japan."

Some of the paying customers Thursday said the tickets were a bit too steep. "It is expensive," said Yoko Iizuka, a copywriter who works in Tokyo. "But I've loved his music since I was a kid."

Others were eager to fork over the 400,000 yen.

"You can't put a price tag on this," said Jenny Sasaki, who arrived in a fur coat and sequined gown. "I love Michael Jackson, his music, his sensitivity and his humanity."

Je ziet o.a. de tekeningen en andere stuff wat er is gemaakt voor MJ. Hij zingt wat mee met You Are Not Alone (nee, je hoort hem niet zingen) en je kunt duidelijk zien dat ie fit en gelukkig is. Wat een verschil met een paar jaar terug zeg.

Ik krijg ineens vertrouwen dat hij misschien wel eens een tour gaat doen.
