Record-breaking donation to the fight against slavery

200,000 euro donated to Roskilde's humanitarian focus.

Thanks to a big effort from about 700 volunteer refund collectors and support from the Roskilde-goers at this year’s festival, we can now announce a record-breaking result from this year’s humanitarian refund collection.

As a result, refund worth DKK 956,743 (approx. ¤ 129,000) was collected. On top of the amount from the refund collection, The Roskilde Festival Society donates DKK 543,257 (approx. ¤ 73,000) from the Roskilde Festival ’06 profits. The total amount reaches DKK 1.5 millions (approx. ¤ 202,000) – money to help fight child slavery in Cambodia.

De tweede verandering is de komst van het podium Roskilde Cosmopol. Electronische muziek gefuseerd met andere vormen van expressie. Een nieuwe hotspot voor de underground urban genres. Er is ruimte voor hiphop, dancehall, grime, R&B, urban world music, neo soul en meer organische electronische muziek. Het komt allemaal op een nieuw podium waar ruimte is voor bands, DJs, breakdance en rap battles ook op het visuele gebied is er veel te zien. De tent heeft ruimte voor 6.000 personen.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers is the first big act in 2007.

After a period of expectant whispering in the corners, we are now ready to draw the curtains slightly aside for the music playing this summer. We are looking forward to reintroducing a band who has enjoyed huge success, both commercially and among the critics.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS (US), LA’s proud sons, will be visiting Roskilde Festival again this year. Since the breakthrough with 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik, they have been among the top acts of modern rock, providing festive spirits with their unique brand of spicy funk rock which communicates with both the organ between the ears and the one between the legs.

Experiencing the band live is first and foremost the energy of slap bass player Flea, Chad Smith’s pounding on the pots, and the masterful guitar work of John Frusciante. And front man Anthony Kiedis is still a muscular explosion of energy despite almost 25 years on stage. So expect a strong musical dish which will surely leave a strong burning sensation.

Roskilde Festival aims at announcing new acts before the ink on the contract is dry. Expect several new treats before long.

Feb 12th New The Police Reunion tour to start late summer
This story on Billboard.com says that the Police take off in August:

Sources close to the tour exclusively tell Billboard.com that the plan is for the Police to tour North America through the first week of August, then play the U.K. and Europe, returning to North America in late October.
The fan site Stingus.net says the tour will kick off on May 28th in Canada. Over the summer til the beginning of August the band will play stadions and areanas in Canada and North America. From late-August until mid-October the tour will visit the U.K. and Europe before heading back to the States. Late also Mexico, Australia and New Zealand is palnned.

According to Billboard.com no other festivals than Bonnaroo are planned. Looks like the Police wont make it to Roskilde after all.

Roskilde Festival 2007 turns out to be a great year for those eager to dance. Two new names are ready with a persistent itch in the dancing shoes. The first act has for years delivered an entire catalogue of modern dancing classics, and their playful beats have resound at the very top of the charts. The other act is a skilled matchmaker of alternative rock and rave, and they have set the agenda before landing a record deal.


KLAXONS


BASEMENT JAXX mixes all conceivable genres into the cauldron of magic potion – from house and electronica to disco and funk. Do not miss these unorthodox masterminds when they let the magic loose from the depths of the basement club at Roskilde Festival.

With a potent and modern mix of rock and danceable electronics, KLAXONS have delivered an album with durability beyond all hype. Some calls the genre ’new rave’ but Klaxons are first and foremost one of this year’s most vital bands with the big city and pulse of the future in their bloodstream.

With these names, Roskilde Festival has given two extra reasons for finding your dancing shoes after last week’s announcement of the world-class act Tiësto.

The last time Basement Jaxx played in 2004, they started a grand party Saturday night on the Orange Stage, and it made everybody forget that the rain was pouring down, and that Basement Jaxx played an open air show.

Dance is a universal and optimistic language, and at Roskilde Festival ’07 it happens independent of camps, stages and genres.

Alternative rock with grand ambitions to Roskilde Festival ’07

Both Muse (UK) and Arcade Fire (CAN) offer solid alternative rock and are the latest additions to this year’s programme.

Some people feel good about the minimal and sparse, while others prefer imposing extravaganzas. Whether this applies to architecture, cooking or rock music, there will always be groupings of people with inclinations to ‘less is more,’ while others claim that ‘big is beautiful.’ The two bands in this week’s announcement are both contemporary representatives of the latter conviction – in each its own way, the music has the full-bodied and the towering elements as focal point.

ARCADE FIRE
With a mix of early Roxy Music, David Bowie and Talking Heads, ARCADE FIRE (CAN) have been universally praised. With their latest album Neon Bible just released, Arcade Fire are ready to show their audience why the Canadians in a matter of no time have developed from an upcoming act to trendsetting stars.

MUSE (UK) keep the most pompous virtues of British rock alive with their ambitious, futuristic rock opera and wind-swept guitar solos. The band is loved by fans all over the world – perhaps especially because the band, consisting of only three members, finds its very own plane somewhere between Radiohead’s dark science fiction and Queen’s grand symphonies.

Critically acclaimed and requested bands
Arcade Fire and Muse both reap praise from the critics – while their fan bases are growing rapidly, which we have noted via your band requests where especially Muse are among the top scorers. With an awesome level of ambitions, these two bands are not for people suffering from a musical fear of heights.

African soul, Jamaican sunshine music and modern big city hip hop will rub shoulders at Roskilde Festival’s new stage Cosmopol.

Roskilde Festival hereby reveals the first names to play the new stage, Cosmopol. The stage is a brand new hot spot for underground urban genres and will sparkle with hip hop, R’n’B, global beats and rhythms, neo-soul and music from the more organic electronic scene.


MAHMOUD AHMED (ETH) is an African James Brown with his characteristic mixture of funk, jazz and soul.

JUNKYARD PRODUCTIONS (DK) dole out warm, lazy and sexy Jamaica dub.

K'NAAN (SOM) might just turn out to be one of tomorrow’s hip hop stars due to his organic and, at first listen, very African expression combined with the attitude and references of the North American scene.

STONES THROW RECORDS have recently released a vista of the label’s first 10 years as a breeding ground for cutting-edge hip hop. At Roskilde, the label brings along PEANUT BUTTER WOLF, J. ROCC, ALOE BLACC, PERCEE P & GUILTY SIMPSON (US), who present a similar re-cap of a decade’s deviations in dirty beats and rhymes – a virtual cornet of hip hop treats.

Exciting and kaleidoscopic sound
Roskilde Cosmopol is a stage that reflects the cultural meetings of the big city. This first sneak peek is a little preview of the diverse artists that await the audience at this stage. The big city is a musical hodgepodge of ethnic impressions and mixed heritages – from different peoples’ distant, carried traditions to the latest hip hop talents of the street. Roskilde Cosmopol represents a musical culture in a state of exciting and inspiring rupture and will be buzzing with the traffic and kaleidoscopic crowds of the big city.

Strong British acts to Roskilde Festival

Great Britain is, as always, a major supplier of strong alternative rock, and we have lots of Brits on the bill – with Arctic Monkeys as the major, returning attraction.

The British Isles are one of the most important brooding grounds for rock music, and the turnout of bands with eyes for both change and tradition does not seem to diminish in the new millennium – rather the opposite. The diversity, wealth and quantity on the British scene may seem unbeatable, but again this year we pick out some of the best British names – both well-established chart-toppers and small and exciting acts.


ARCTIC MONKEYS’ status is miraculously intact after an intense tour schedule with their tradition-bound yet refreshing rock. The spring album Favourite Worst Nightmare will, judging from the first single releases, outclass the debut album – so these polar boys will yet again prove that our blue and green planet is indeed the Planet of the Apes.

CAMERA OBSCURA is an intellectual indie band hooked on catchy choruses and tragicomic lyrics.

HOLLY GOLIGHTLY explores warm, acoustic folk, organ-based pop and country-blues – and she delivers the goods live as she does on an already gloriously long series of albums.

TUNNG lean on the indietronica scene and acts such as Four Tet and The Beta Band, but their anachronistic collision between Fairport Convention and electronic dissonances and samples place the Brits in their very own category.

With this flowering British bouquet, we move from pastoral, rural bliss with Tunng to the hormone-filled and trembling dance floor with Arctic Monkeys.

Metal’n’roll on the Orange Stage
VOLBEAT (DK) opens the Orange Stage this year. The band has enthused fans with its latest album, the terrific Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil. The album title demonstrates the band’s mix of rock’n’roll and metal – so this year Roskilde Festival opens with a both popular and genre-challenging rock act.
