op een paar uitzonderingen na zien al die 3D films er dood uit en sfeerloos

With a "Smurfs" movie coming together some 30-plus years after the franchise broke through here, names are coming fast and furious of who will be providing the voices of the iconic blue characters. We caught up with a "Smurfs" co-star who is decidedly taller than three apples high to get the scoop on his character.
"I'm Gutsy," Alan Cumming revealed when we spoke to him over the weekend at Elton John's Oscar viewing party. As best as we can tell, there was never a "Gutsy" on the 1981-89 cartoon series, which hooked millions of little kids on the idea of tiny blue people with stubby tails living in giant mushrooms.
Cumming also told MTV News that Quentin Tarantino would be playing Papa Smurf's right-hand man, Brainy, but a publicist for the "Inglourious Basterds" director denied his involvement.
"Other voices are Katy Perry; she's Smurfette," Cumming said of the "I Kissed a Girl" singer, who will be making her theatrical debut as the voice of the most prominent woman to live with all those dozens of little blue dudes. "George Lopez [as Grouchy] is another one."
Revealing further details, Cumming added that the previously announced Neil Patrick Harris would be playing what sounds like a brand-new human character — and that the Smurfs' evil nemesis could be a big name. "Gargamel, I'm not sure [if I can say]; they're still negotiating with someone that would be fabulous," he said. "Neil Patrick Harris is [playing] the nice man who helps us."
"Smurfs" is targeting a July 29, 2011, release and will likely be in 3-D. Stay tuned, as additional Smurfs names are likely to emerge in the upcoming days and weeks
The story follows a couple expecting their first child who find their lives turned upside-down when they meet the miniature blue creatures in New York City's Central Park.
Neil Patrick Harris and "Glee" star Jayma Mays will play the couple. Filming kicks off next month for an August 2011 release.

Hank Azaria, the stalwart of “The Simpsons” who memorably chewed the historic scenery in “Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian,” will be Gargamel, the sour sorcerer who just absolutely hates the tiny blue folk.
While most Americans recognize the Smurfs from the Hanna-Barbera cartoon that ran from 1981 to 1990 -- and the mountain of tie-in merchandising -- what they might not know is that the little people were created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Peyo, whose real name was Pierre Culliford.
“The property is 50 years old,” Minghella said. “In Europe, it has never ceased to be a current popular
phenomenon. It still airs in prime time in certain countries around the world.”
As previously announced Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, and Hank Azaria will star in the human roles. Azaria will play the Smurfs' nemesis, the evil wizard Gargamel. Harris and Mays star as an expectant couple whose lives are turned upside down when the Smurfs cross over from their magical village to New York City. Vergara plays Odile, Harris's boss, a cosmetics executive.
In terms of the voices of the Smurfs themselves we have Anton Yelchin as Clumsy Smurf, Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Katy Perry as Smurfette, Alan Cumming as Gutsy Smurf, "SNL's" Fred Armisen as Brainy Smurf and George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf.

MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke to Azaria last night on the red carpet for "Date Night," which hits theaters this Friday, and, noting the actor's freshly shaved head, asked if we're looking at Gargamel.
"This is partially Gargamel," he said, indicating his newly hairless scalp. "This is for Gargamel; it saves me about an hour in the [makeup] chair." Okay then. Partial Gargamel. So what more do we add to the costume to complete the package? What does Azaria's evil sorcerer look like?
"It looks like the cartoon: he's got hair around the sides [of his head], crazy eyebrows, ridiculous teeth and a big nose. It's insane." Presumably the signature black robe is also somewhere in there. Sure sounds like it.
Really though, the most pressing question for a guy like Azaria is how he's going to play Gargamel's voice. The cartoon character has a very distinctive way of speaking. And Azaria... his voice acting chops need no introduction. Just a list of names: Moe Szyslak, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson, Cletus Spuckler, Professor Frink, Dr. Nick Riviera, Lou, Snake, Kirk Van Houten, the Sea Captain, Superintendent Chalmers, Disco Stu, Duffman... the list goes on. So where will Gargamel fall?
"Should I..." Azaria started, clearly considering. Wanting to share. "I don't know if I should reveal that." Pleeeeease! "No, I'm gonna save it. I've gotta save that. There was a lot of discussion of what the voice should be." Drat. Good to know there was a lot of discussion though.
We already know from the press release that the story follows the Smurfs as they evade Gargamel's pursuit by fleeing Smurf Village and somehow being transported to New York City's Central Park. Azaria confirmed that -- "That is correct, yes. It is bi-location," he said. -- but he stayed mum on other plot details, including what Smurfs taste like. Or even if he gets to eat one or two, as the cartoon character always wanted to.
"I can't reveal that." He did confirm what we'd previously heard about Gargamel's pet cat Azrael, that the same technology used to animated Odie in the "Garfield" movie would be used to bring the evil feline to life.
"That's also still up for--" he started. "I think a combination of everything you can do to make a cat come to life will be done with this cat."

Heart is important in the film, but also a sense of humor. The Smurfs are so sweet and innocent that their clash with cynical city life was devised to provide some contrast and edge.
Dad and Mom may be amused by the out-of-the-mouths-of-babes naiveté of the characters, who speak the blunt truth that little kids sometimes do. "They see (Harris) putting on a tie, and wonder whether it's a leash. Then they think he's a merchant of beautiful cloth, or that he deals in sales — as in 'sail' boats," Kerner says. "He has to admit he wears it because everyone else wears it, and that's not something they understand."
In feite hoef ik de film niet meer te zien (was ik waarschijnlijk ook niet ga doen), aangezien ik precies weet wat er gaat gebeuren. Want wat gaat het uiteindelijke afscheid tussen de mensen en de smurfen emotioneel worden, omdat ze zo schattig zijn. Maar de cultuurverschillen zijn te groot en het gevaar van Gargamel is nog steeds aanwezig, dus ze gaan toch terug.

In 1 of 2 afleveringen wil hij ze daadwerkelijk eten, maar daar waren ze gauw genoeg van afgestapt.

We kregen vandaag al een foto onder ogen maar nu kunnen we de blauwe figuurtjes in beweging bewonderen. Als het in z'n geheel geanimeerd was oké, maar real-world meets animatie, nee gewoon nee.
Ze hadden het eigenlijk andersom moeten doen. De eerste film gewoon in Smurfenland en de direct-to-dvd-sequel in Amerika, was logischer geweest...
Ben benieuwt of ze het nog aandurven in deze tijd om die smurf met dat bloemetje en die spiegel te gebruiken.

Klopt, maar de kids waren wellicht al gewend aan Carol van Herwijnen als Grote Smurf en andere acteurs die de rollen van Frans over hadden genomen. Helaasch dat Carol ook al overleden is. Dus het enige waar ik me wel in kan schikken, hoewel ik het nog niet gehoord heb, is dat Jack Wouterse nu Grote Smurf is.quote:

Laatste keer dat ik hem zag was vele jaren geleden voor enkele zinnen van Rataplan.
De film is best aardig (gebaseerd op Engelse versie) Het blijft natuurlijk wel een kinderfilm maar het is een vermakelijk geheel geworden. Natuurlijk is de film enigzins voorspelbaar en is het even wennen aan de CGI-smurfen maar overal is het goede 1e poging.

Gisteren in de bioscoop gezien (nl versie) en ik vind hem echt geslaagd Cargamel en Azrael samen zijn hilarisch, de smurfen op zijn tijd zelfs ontroerend en zowel mijn dochter (7) als ik zelf hebben de hele film geboeid zitten kijken! Ik zeg top!
