3 december, is wel op een zondagmiddag. Maar dan hebben we lekker veel tijd om door te drinken.

Dit is de band :

Featuring:
Rory Gallagher - Bass, Vox
John Mc Intyre -Guitar, Vox
Michael Daniel O Donnell - Drums

Since forming in the summer of the millennium year, The Revs have ridden the rock rollercoaster like old pros, emerging five years later with an album that some music pundits are calling ‘their Different Class, their Parklife, their Final Straw’…

From the get go, The Revs were determined to be a band that worked hard and played hard. As far as Rory Gallagher, John McIntyre and Michael Daniel O Donnell (and no, the irony of two third of the bands names are not lost on them either...) were concerned, real bands get together to perform music, to play their songs to whoever is willing to listen. To The Revs, live performance is the backbone of any band worth their salt and if there’s one thing that can never be in doubt with respect to The Revs, it’s their dogged attitude to gigging. Through constant touring The Revs have built an enormous fan base in every city and town in Ireland and have earned the well-deserved reputation as one of the hardest working and most dynamic live bands in the country.

Their third gig ever, at Dublin’s Vicar Street in 2001, saw them wipe the boards at that years’ national Spirit Battle Of the Bands competition. Their first place prize included a management and release deal with independent Irish record label Treasure Island.

The Revs first single Wired to The Moon, released in June of 2001, entered the Irish single charts at number 16 – a worthy chart debut for any fledgling band, particularly one that wasn’t created during a liquid lunch by two ambitious marketing executives. Wired To The Moon remained in the Top Twenty for nine weeks and hit gold sales status shortly afterwards, thus super fastening The Revs as real contenders in the nasty world of music unit sales. Their second single Alone With You followed and pushed The Revs even further up the charts. Promoters and venues began returning their calls and soon their gig schedule was packed with shows across the country. Their first Irish tour was a massive success, even by the standards of any well-established Irish act doing the rounds. Considering their ‘if you can’t cut it live, don’t bother’ ethos, the next logical step seemed to be a live recorded album.

Sonic Tonic was recorded over two shows at Dublin’s Temple Bar Music Centre and hit the record racks in January of 2002. The Revs debuted on the Irish album charts at number 5 and went on to sell in excess of 15,000 copies in Ireland alone. Album sales, top chart positions, packed houses propelled the boys from Letterkenny onto the main stage at Witnness 2002. Support offers came with greater ease – Muse, The Hives and the chance to step onto the holy-grail of stages, Slane with The Stereophonics. Those in the know in the music industry stepped up to congratulate the independent success of the band – The Meteor/IRMA committee awarded them 2002 Best Irish Newcomer, as did Hot Press Music Magazine and in the North, Sonic Tonic won Best Album of 2002 at the Irish Entertainment Awards.

Amidst huge domestic success, The Revs wisely kept an eye firmly fixed on outside markets and took time to head to the States, where they showcased at a number of prestigious venues including the Viper Room in LA and The Troubadour in Brisbane, Australia, where they recorded a single on their day off! That single, Tuesday Monday, charted in the top ten in Ireland and was followed up with another home tour.

Following a licensing deal with SINE (Sony Independent Network Europe) for Europe and Asia, The Revs ditched the tour van for eight weeks to write and record their self produced debut studio album Suck. Released in late February 2003, and fuelled by excellent media reaction - Hot Press 8.5/10, 2FM ‘Album of the Week’, along with the Top 10 single Death Of A DJ and airplay support across national and regional stations, Suck debuted at number 4. Beers were had aplenty over the Atlantic, as the band were back en route to the US of A for dates in New York, Austin, LA and San Diego. They took the scenic route home for a few key dates in Sydney and Melbourne, where in the aftermath of a night on the town, they somehow managed to end up playing as session band on the EP recording of world champion surfer Tom Curran.

A few days’ kip in their own beds and a Sunday roast later, they hit the UK to tour their asses off. Reviewers from the NME and Kerrang joined them along the way and UK college and specialist rock radio began to take a shine to The Revs. Death Of A DJ found it’s way onto various rock play-lists. Kerrang made it ‘Single of The Week’ and The Fly simply announced it was ‘fucking brilliant’. Kerrang TV picked up on the video and not to be outdone, the boys and gals at MTV 2 did likewise. A quick jaunt back home saw them claiming another gong at The Big Buzz Awards for Best Album and a second main stage appearance at Witnness 2003 before returning to the UK to play both Reading and Leeds Festivals.

In October 2003 the Revs split with management and record label and went on to sign a management deal for Australia and Asia with Smash Management. An Australian licensing deal soon followed with Smash Music/Rough Trade. Suck was released in Australia in February 2004 and when their flight touched down the following month, Death Of A DJ was receiving saturation play on Australia’s Triple J radio, where it remained on their hit-list for more than nine weeks. MTV Australia picked up the video and the lads found themselves staring at their mug shots on the front covers of the Aussies four main music magazines. Their Australian tour closed with much foot stomping and encore screams and The Revs returned to Ireland.

The band began to concentrate on creating new material. For the first time in three and a half years they took their touring hats off, had a few nights out on the town and concentrated on delivering a kick ass album. With a selection of new material in the bag, they invited Nick Seymour (Crowded House) on board to produce an e-single, Broken. 2FM’s Dave Fanning called it "by far their best work to date". The e-single, released in October 2004, was well met by media and fans alike and they brought 2004 to a close with a sell out nationwide tour.

The new material was packed up and shipped off, along with the band, to begin the recording process in the Cardigans Tambourine Studio in Malmo, Sweden on a very cold January 2nd morning at the beginning of this year. With Stefan Kvarnström and Jens Lindgård in the engineering seat, fresh from the Franz Ferdinand album, the band and their team got to work. Danton Supple, mixer on Coldplay’s X+Y, did his magic, while Irish designer Steve Averill (U2), got to work on the packaging.

Essentially 2005 was spent moving between Dublin, London and Sweden putting together the new album. On February 4th, The Revs signed a publishing deal with new Irish based ‘Elevate Music’, helmed by Steve Lindsey, former manager with Warner/Chappell, GM of Go! Discs and Creative Director with Island Records.

The Revs released their new self-titled album on Friday, October 14th. The lead single Time Slippin’ built into a massive hit at radio across the country. The album entered into the top 40 in the Irish charts. Songs from the album have already been used in TV commercials and Movies in Ireland such as Harp larger, TV show anonymous and Tara road. The album has received rave reviews in Ireland and abroad.

2006 sees the band move into new territories with the album released in Germany Switzerland and Austria with Indie label Haldern-Pop and Benelux with Alien Do GOD, The band also travel throughout Europe over the coming months with tours in April and May followed by festivals in the Summer.

Enige show in Nederland!
