Already, there is anticipation of going to the planet Mars in this century. Once we arrive there, one great barrier will be the language. It is important to consider, just how well will earthlings be able to learn to speak Martian? It has been rumored abroad that a secret mission to Mars has already taken place. Because of this mission, certain ones have learned and mastered the Martian language. The structure of Martian language is so different that there is no similarity to earth language in any way. To an earthling, Martian language sounds like "noise." Consequently, any meaning intended to be conveyed via Martian language is utterly lost in the transmission because Martian language is totally misunderstood. One person reported, after taking a course in the study of Martian language, for ten years, that he was just beginning to understand the language. Apparently, as in the study of any foreign language, realizing the crossing of the language barrier, to experience a global frame of reference as to one's perception of the language being communicated is difficult.
The unique problem between earth language and Martian language is that the foundational presuppositions upon which the languages are developed are polarized so that the very design of the language influences what and how the content of what is to be communicated will be said. This means that ideas that are communicated with Martian language cannot be communicated with earth language since the ideas allowable in each language are essentially polarized so as to negate each other. This means that the perceptual perspective maintained with earth language cannot be communicated through the vehicle of Martian language. It is similar to the problem that exist with the various branches of earth language in which some words in one branch of the language do not exist in another branch of the language. With Martian vs. earth language, one set of presuppositional precepts do exist in Martian language, but do not exist in earth language. So it is necessary, when learning Martian language, that one learn the foundational precepts upon which the language is built. One cannot think earth language and Martian language at the same time. It is obvious, that it is an either/or situation. When one tries to think both languages at the same time, it will result in confusion and lack of comprehension. To speak to someone in Martian language, and he receive the communication in earth language, will result in the receiver acting as if the communication "went right over his head."
Often, earthlings will try to understand Martian language from an intellectual point of view. What can happen in this situation is, that for the moment, it might make some "sense" to the person on an imaginary pretending level intellectually. But it will in no way make "sense" to the person on an experiential level. So a few minutes or hours later, the person will have forgotten the Martian communication. He might have some vague recall of the communication, if prompted to do so.
Once in a while, an earthling, will learn a few phrases of Martian language. They will become very excited with their new experience. With joy and anticipation, they will share their new knowledge and experience with their friends and relatives, only to discover, that their friends and relatives cannot understand what they are saying. After while, they become discouraged with their new knowledge, and tend to stop learning any more Martian because they soon discover there are very few people with whom one can share it.
Then the question comes up. What good is it to learn to speak and understand Martian language? To really know, with conviction, the answer to this question, one would need to take a course in Martian language. If there is any answer to the question, that one might understand, apart from taking a course in Martian language, it would be:
Martian language is limited to the presuppositions that validate the state of knowing and being as the essential expression of what is because it is.
This is the closest definition to the benefit of learning Martian language. Experiential, for many, obviously, much will be lost in the crossing of the language barrier since the line of demarcation separates the two languages into an either/or experience. Now, anyone who would want to know more about what is, would do well, in learning Martian language.
