beter een knipoog dan een blauw oog
Ik kijk echt uit naar het debuutalbum van (vooral) Katherine en Elliott (als die er ook één uit kan/gaat brengen). Ik moet trouwens wel zeggen dat ik het ontzettend knap vind hoe ze in Amerika nog steeds voor zo'n enorme hype kunnen zorgen rondom een programma dat in een groot deel v/d wereld al lang ''afgeschreven'' is (het is o.a. in Nederland nooit meer zo succesvol geweest als de 1e editie terwijl het in de VS alsmaar populairder lijkt te worden).
Ik vind trouwens dat Kellie ook maar even in een sitcom ofzo moet gaan spelen, ze was echt supergrappig op de rode loper bij de MTV Movie Awards (o.i.d) dus als ze nou een goede scriptschrijver vindt en samen aan de slag gaan kan dat wel eens iets moois opleveren.

Ik heb nou 3 tracks van Katharine's album gehoord (''Each Other'', ''Over it'' & ''Open Toes'') en ik moet zeggen dat het in het begin ff wennen was maar dat het uiteindelijk toch best wel goed klinkt! Ik verwachtte eerst dat ze meer liedjes als ''Somewhere...'' enzo zou zingen, maar de stijl die ze voor dit album heeft gekozen valt me tot nog toe heel erg mee. Klinkt wel inderdaad erg JoJo-achtig, maar dat is niet per definitie iets slechts. Ik hoop dat de rest van de liedjes even leuk zijn!
Wisten jullie trouwens dat Ayla Brown ook al een album heeft uitgebracht? Het heet ''Forward'' en voor de rest weet ik er niks vanaf.

The buttery-voiced singer has received a $50,000 dental makeover to fix the unfortunate crossbite that plagued him during the run of the show and prevented him from smiling fully in photos, reports People.
"I've always wanted to have a nicer smile," admits Yamin, 28. "I used to look at old pictures of myself, and I figured out how to kind of smile without displaying all my teeth."
Beverly Hills dentist David Frey, who provided the dental work and porcelain veneers free of charge, says that the new look will help Yamin's career beyond just his image.
"It is going to help muscle function, it is going to increase the volume [of his voice] maybe," says Frey. "So if anything, he could become an even better singer."
Yamin agrees, adding that the straight teeth might allow him to "express my emotions better" during performances.
More importantly, his girlfriend, model Jaime Paetz, approves. "He loves to laugh, he loves to smile," she says. "I liked his old teeth, but if [the veneers] make him happy, then I'm happy."
In recent photos, it appears that Yamin has also grown out his hair, making him look more relaxed. Perhaps this whole rejuvenated image is a symptom of his latest good news: He's signed a songwriting deal with Sony's publishing division, and his debut album is due in early 2007.

The "American Idol" winner's debut moved 298,000 copies in its first week of release, a pretty strong debut. It was good enough for the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart, behind rapper Young Jeezy's "The Inspiration," which sold 352,000 copies its first week.
Hicks is the second contestant from "Idol's" 2006 season to see an album hit No. 2 in recent weeks. Daughtry, the band fronted by fourth-place finisher Chris Daughtry, entered at No. 2 in late November. No "Idol" contestant who didn't finish first or second has ever had as strong a debut.
Daughtry's first-week numbers are even a little better than those of Hicks; the self-titled "Daughtry" moved 304,000 copies in week one and has since gone platinum (1 million units shipped); it sits at No. 7 this week.
It was a good week for other former "Idol" contestants as well. Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts," which has now a quadruple-platinum seller, is one spot above Daughtry at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, and season three winner Fantasia's self-titled second album is at No. 19.
Additionally, season two contestant Kimberley Locke is No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary singles chart with her rendition of "Jingle Bells," and season three's Jennifer Hudson is at No. 93 on the Pop 100 with "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," from the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack.

Katharine McPheeEven if you finish "American Idol" in second place, life gets very busy very fast. Just ask Katharine McPhee.
The FOX singing competition's runner-up from last season is in high demand for Christmas appearances. One program she agreed to do is "The 8th Annual A Home for the Holidays With Rod Stewart," the latest edition of the CBS special that advocates adoption. Airing Friday, Dec. 22, it also features tunes by title star Stewart, John Legend, Five for Fighting and gospel's Mary Mary.
Angie Harmon and current CBS series stars Melina Kanakaredes ("CSI: NY") and Jeri Ryan ("Shark") introduce stories about youngsters whose lives have been bettered by the families that took them in.
During the hour, McPhee reprises her version of "Over the Rainbow" that brought her toe-to-toe with eventual winner Taylor Hicks in last spring's "American Idol" final.
"You get offered to do something," she reflects, "and people ask, 'Why did you want to?' First, they asked me to, but I really get connected when I get the information about what it is. They gave me the facts about how many kids get adopted after it airs. It's so amazing, it makes it something really special."
McPhee is pleased to croon "Over the Rainbow" again. She explains, "I have music in my family, so I grew up on the old standards. Of course, I still listen to contemporary pop and R&B, but I remember watching 'The Wizard of Oz' over and over again. I was always scared of the Wicked Witch of the West, but I loved Dorothy. She was such a great character, and Judy Garland was amazing."
Laryngitis forced McPhee to miss some early dates on last summer's "American Idol" concert tour, but her schedule has made up for it since.
"You'd think things would slow down a little, but I'm pretty much busy right up to the end of the year," she reports. "I speak to Chris [Daughtry] and Kellie [Pickler] a lot, and they're busy as well. Luckily, I have so many great people around me who take care of things, I don't have to remember it all. I just focus on what I have to do for the day."
Keeping clear vision was a near-constant challenge for McPhee while in the throes of "Idol" competition.
"Looking back, people ask me if I'd do it again, and I'm always like, 'No!' I'm half-joking when I say that, but I almost didn't make it through a lot of it. I remember calling my boyfriend before one of the shows, or after a rehearsal that didn't go so well, and crying hysterically.
"I'd be going, 'I don't want to do this anymore! I hate this!' He would say, 'Just get through this show, then tomorrow, you can decide if you want to keep doing it.' I really had sincere feelings of not wanting to, out of complete fear and nerves. I had looked at 'American Idol' as, 'Oh, that's not so bad; I can do that,' and I was so lying to myself. I had no clue. It's more pressure than you could ever imagine."
Still working on her debut album as of this writing, McPhee doesn't mind taking longer to turn hers out than other "Idol" veterans did.
"I get to make all the decisions in my own time," she reasons. "I'm going to put out the album when I think it's ready, even though the record people might want it at a certain time. I'm trying to be in control of things as much as I can, and that's the difference between being on 'American Idol' and having a career after it."

Als ik zo lees wat ze allemaal te zeggen hebben over dit seizoen heb ik echt het gevoel dat het heeeeeeeel erg over the top gaat worden, maar goed, dat is het eigenlijk sowieso al een beetje. En ik hoop echt dat het ze lukt om sterren als Paul McCartney en Mariah Carey te kunnen regelen om de kandidaten te coachen, dat zou geweldig zijn!

Weet ik niet, toen woonde ik hier nog niet Maar de 16e is het twee uur lang en ik denk niet dat ze House naar 10 uur verschuiven. Verder is het geloof ik gewoon een uur en gaat House zoals vanouds naar 9 uur. Ben benieuwd waar Standoff dan heenschuift, maar dat kijk ik toch niet.quote:

Ik heb de hele laatste editie gezien van het begin tot het eind. Elliot was mijn favoriet en Chris. Maar eerder afgevallen Manisha (ofzo) was ook echt fantastisch.

Elke andere show, Survivor, Amazing Race, 24, Prison Break, whatever; allemaal zodra de aflevering uitgezonden is en downloadbaar, gewoon zonder spoilertags. Anders kan je wel met iedereen rekening houden.
Zo moeilijk is het toch niet om niet te kijken in het topic als je weet dat anderen hem al gezien hebben. Alsof je persee op dat moment moet posten in het topic.

Ik denk dat het weinig zin heeft om een soort van wachtperiode ofzo in te stellen, aangezien iemand die voor het eerst in dit topic post dat dan misschien niet weet en zo dus per ongeluk spoilert. Ik snap wel wat CDP ermee bedoelt aangezien ik de uitzending ook pas de avond nadat het uitgezonden is kijk en zodoende dus (als ik dat zou willen) eigenlijk meteen na het kijken moet posten wat ik ervan vind (anders zou ik op donderdag de uitslag v/d resultsshow al kunnen zien). Maar ik vind dus dat we het gewoon simpel moeten houden; is de aflevering uitgezonden? Dan mag je erover praten, zonder spoilertags.
Iets anders, ik heb Dreamgirls gezien en Jennifer Hudson is echt ge-wel-dig! Ze veegt zomaar de vloer aan met Beyoncé en de rest v/d cast (alhoewel die het ook heel aardig doen), echt super! Ze heeft er een nieuwe fan bij..

Kantar, ben het er helemaal mee eens. Zelf ben ik normaal gesproken altijd een beetje huiverig voor spoilers maar American Idol is het enige programma waarvan ik, alvorens de aflevering te kijken, al ga checken wie er uit ligt.
Ik kan gewoonweg niet zo lang in spanning blijven om zo'n soort uitslag.

“American Idol” is nothing if not familiar, and outside of the competition itself, the show is predictable. The contestants change, but everything from Simon Cowell’s insults to the repetitive theme music have stayed nearly the same since the first season.
But for this upcoming sixth season, an executive producer for the show told the New York Daily News that producers are planning “a big-event show, sometime in the middle of the season, something that will blow America away.”
Naturally, she didn’t elaborate, and thus the speculation began.
What will the surprise be? What will be enough to truly blow us away? Here are some ideas: some serious, some ridiculous, and some that are little more than wishful thinking.
Give past contestants a second chance
The Boston Globe’s Joanna Weiss recently suggested that the show “take a page from ‘Project Runway’ and bring back a rejected contestant or two — someone beloved by fans, or perhaps somebody hated. Maybe even a rejected contestant from a previous season.”
That, of course, wouldn’t be all that unusual for “American Idol,” which in its first season, brought back five “wild card” contestants who’d been eliminated earlier. Of those, RJ Helton advanced and joined the top 10 finalists; he went on to place fifth overall. Still, Weiss’ suggestion that contestants from years past — like popular Chris Daughtry from last season, for example — could get a second chance would certainly shock America.
Building off her idea, perhaps a number of those who’ve been eliminated will come back for one episode, and then viewers will vote to let one join this year’s competition as a finalist, a sort of wild-card competition but with alumni candidates, and viewers in charge.
Some of those who’ve unexpectedly lost or been eliminated have gone on to successful careers, so it’s doubtful that contestants such as Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson (who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe), or even Chris Daughtry (who now has a record out) would return to the show. But if they or others did, it would certainly be the type of event that producers are hinting about.
Let viewers fire the judges for a week
The most shocking part of every season of “American Idol” are the unexpected eliminations; the only people on the stage who are safe are judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson, and host Ryan Seacrest. America would really be surprised, then, if Ryan Seacrest announced that viewers could vote to eliminate a judge.
Since they’re all under contract and unlikely to be really fired unless they do something inappropriate, perhaps viewers could be allowed to select one judge who’d have to wear a muzzle for an entire episode. Just think: No allegedly witty, biting cutdowns from Simon Cowell; no noncommittal “dawg, you did your thing” from Randy Jackson; or no whining, sycophantic praise from Paula Abdul. It’d be a gift to America.
Perhaps that muzzled/fired judge could be replaced for a week by a past contestant like Justin Guarini, who doesn’t seem to have anything better to do with his time. Or perhaps even a viewer could sit at the big table and drink out of the sponsored cups.
Taking the idea one step further, the entire panel of judges could be replaced for a week, maybe with a mix of industry experts, past contestants, and viewers. The real judges could watch the action from the side of the stage, enclosed inside a glass box so we can’t hear a word they’re saying.
Borrow some ideas from Down Under
A more likely possibility might be something borrowed from another version of the series. “Australian Idol” underwent a significant makeover last year, improving ratings by making changes unlike any other version of the show worldwide had ever seen. Still, these weren’t groundbreaking changes; the show allowed contestants up to age 30, allowed them to play instruments, featured more singer-songwriters in the competition, and compressed the more boring parts of the show.
But their biggest change seems like a possible candidate for “American Idol 6”’s mid-season surprise. During the Australian show’s season, the “Up Close and Personal” episode shows contestants’ lives outside of the competition, and last year, they wrote and performed original songs as part of that episode.
“American Idol” is essentially a five-month karaoke contest, and when original songs are performed, they’re usually the insipid ballads assigned to the finalists. Having the contestants write and sing their own songs could be dramatic and illuminating, and could be billed as an event-style show. But that does lack shock value, unless they write hysterically awful songs about Paula Abdul hitting on them.
That would work nicely with the planned songwriting competition. In addition to the normal contest, “American Idol 6” will include a separate songwriting competition; the winning song will become the single released by the winner. Since regular Americans will be writing their own songs, we might as well have the finalists write some, too.
Leave the studio
“American Idol” contestants live together; in earlier seasons it was a mansion, and in more recent seasons they lived in a luxury hotel. So why don’t we see any of the drama that occurs there?
“We want the finalists to be comfortable during what little private time they have,” producer Nigel Lythgoe said in the Official Behind the Scenes Fan Book. Thus, cameras stay away, and we see the contestants only during performances or when they’re filming commercials for the show’s sponsors.
But “American Idol” has never shied away from humiliation, and isn’t exactly kind to its contestants in other ways, starting with the tortuous elimination process that occurs every Wednesday. To take that to the next level, cameras could invade their living spaces.
That could provide a glimpse of their lives — and personalities — off the stage, with the addition of a “Laguna Beach”-style episode every week. Or if producers wanted to go much further, cameras could catch the finalists in the shower, for example, and force them to sing a song right then, while bathing.
Borrow ideas from other reality shows
Most talent competition reality shows have taken ideas from “American Idol,” just as other reality shows constantly borrow from one another. And FOX, with its clones of other reality shows (such as “Trading Spouses”) is no stranger to this.
Maybe this season, “American Idol” could give its contestants a song and forced to perform it with only 30 minutes to prepare, like “Hell’s Kitchen” does with food and “Project Runway” does with garments. Or the show could force its contestants to eat only rice while living on a beach, like “Survivor.”
Actually reveal the vote totals
What would really shock America is if “American Idol” suddenly shared viewer vote information with viewers. For a competition that hinges on voting by fans, the show is not very forthcoming with information besides telling us which contestants were the least popular.
Revealing the exact vote totals every night might minimize the drama, especially if one person is the favorite, but at least it will end (some) of the conspiracy theories about the outcome of the show’s weekly voting, and let us know how popular our Idols really are. That would be a surprise.

Mentioned in the article was five potential tracks included on the album - "Somehow" (produced by Ryan Leslie), "Home" (a power ballad written by DioGuardi), "Each Other", "Neglected" (which McPhee co-wrote), and "Open Toes," however, "Somehow" did not make the tracklisting while the other four did. It has also been said that all of the tracks that Ryan Leslie produced were cut from the tracklisting. McPhee also stated that she does not want "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" to be included on the album, due to the fact that it is not the direction she wants to go with her music. [1]

Contestants for the new season were asked to perform various musical numbers, including songs by the Bee Gees, Beach Boys, The Supremes and The Four Tops. Wannabe Idols are tossed into a film-style schedule, starting their day at 6:30 AM and wrapping at 5:30 PM. It's hard work being a wannabe.
One of the songs they are judged on is California Dreamin' ... which seems an appropriate song for an American Idol hopeful!

Zo, ik ben ondertussen weer wat gekalmeerd. Echt vreemd want gisteren was ik bij m'n ouders een hele dijk oude engelse blaadjes aan het doorspitten voor het oud papier en toen zag ik een stukje over North and South en ik dacht "Hmm, wat zou er van Tom geworden zijn?" en vanochtend zie ik dat die malloot gewoon naar de Hollywood ronde gaat! Te gek. Hij is nu m'n favoriet. Hij zal er de volgende ronde wel uitliggen maar goed... Heeft iemand trouwens een clipje van z'n auditie van de ITV aflevering?

Ik zit overigens met zeer veel plezier naar seizoen 6 van American Idol te kijken.
De uitzendingen zijn meer en meer persoonlijke verhaaltjes geworden, toegespitst op het individu, terwijl het evenement van de audities meer op de achtergrond meespeelt.
American Idol is met 37,2 miljoen kijkers naar de 1e aflevering ook een instituut geworden.
De rolverdeling tussen Randy en Simon is nu ook wat natuurlijker. Randy is strenger dus kan Simon soms wat gas terug nemen.
En we vragen ons allemaal af wat in de cola beker van Paula zit natuurlijk.
Vorig seizoen had ik nog wel eens een dip na 40 minuten nonstop kijken zonder commercials... dit jaar blijven de uitzendingen me boeien... totnutoe dan natuurlijk.

Gisteravond even de herhaling op ITV gekeken. Seattle was erg, erg triest . (De jury bij die gast die Bohemian Rapsody zong: "Carry on!" ).
