Cassano ‘perfect’ for Napoli

Real Madrid’s transfer market consultant has this afternoon sensationally urged Antonio Cassano to join Napoli.

Ernesto Bronzetti believes that the Serie B outfit would be the perfect environment for Cassano to live up to his potential should they win promotion to the top flight this term.

“I think Napoli would be an excellent solution for him,” Bronzetti, the man who looks after all of the Spanish club’s overseas moves, told Radio Incontro on Monday.

“Cassano is a player who needs to feel that people believe in him and needs to be pushed on by the fans.

“For this reason, Napoli could offer him the perfect stage to express his high levels.”

Cassano joined Real in January after a Ŗ3.5m fee was agreed with Roma given that his contract had just six months left to run in Rome.

However, the man nicknamed ‘Talentino’ by the Spanish media, has struggled in Madrid – even following the appointment of Fabio Capello as boss.

As a result, Bronzetti feels that the ex-Bari starlet’s time with the European giants may be coming to an end.

“We all know that Cassano gets long faced when he’s not playing and he tends to relax mentally,” he added.

“Unfortunately there is a relatively clear situation in Madrid with Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo the first choices, with Raul and Robinho the second reserves.”

Cassano’s lack of recent use by Capello, his former Roma mentor, has also cost him his place in the Italian squad.

Napoli dream of Lippi

Napoli are planning to bring former Azzurri Coach Marcello Lippi to the Stadio San Paolo, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Serie B outfit, currently second in the table behind Genoa, hope for an immediate promotion to Serie A and would favour Lippi’s return at the end of this campaign, after he coached the Partenopei in 1993-94.

The daily newspaper reports that there have been numerous contacts between the club President Aurelio De Laurentis and the Viareggino to discuss a deal for the 2007-08 season, although both parties intend to keep the negotiations quiet, in order to not destabilise Edy Reia’s work with the team.

Lippi had stated that he would prefer to start a new job at the beginning of the season, as he was not interested in replacing any of his colleagues, but he recently said he intended to return to football early next year.

La Gazzetta also suggests that if Lippi were to accept Napoli’s proposal, he would probably include Ciro Ferrara in the agreement.

The former Juve and Napoli defender proved to be an important figure during the 2006 World Cup adventure, assisting Lippi in the dressing room, and has made no secret of the fact that he would like to work with his hometown club.

Ferrara is currently in charge of Juve’s youth teams, but could consider the idea of leaving the post if called by Lippi.

Furthermore, Fabio Cannavaro could also return to the peninsula, fulfilling the dream of ending his career at Napoli. The world champion has an excellent relationship with Lippi and could move back to his former club after his three-year contract with the Merengues ends.

Recent reports had also suggested that Marcello Lippi is one of the leading candidates to become the new Mexico national team Coach, as they seek a replacement for Ricardo La Volpe.
