6/2/2006 7:48:00 PM GMT Brasil 1 are into Gurnard Bay with Pirates close behind. Ericsson and ABN AMRO TWO are in hot pursuit behind them at Egypt Point. Brunel has now overtaken ABN AMRO ONE, who have only just reached Cowes.

I think once we are out of the Solent the track we take round Lizard Point will be pretty important tactically too, it’s an unusual course. There’s still lots for us to play for in these next two legs and in the Rotterdam, so we’ll be putting the pressure on and have really stripped the boat out in preparation."

6/2/2006 7:13:12 PM GMT Skipper Mike Sanderson said before the start that “the forecast doesn’t look too good for our boats in the next leg, but we are going to go out there and enjoy racing against these amazing five teams. This could be one of our last opportunities to sail together as a team. It would be great to have a good result into Rotterdam for the bank. ABN AMRO ONE was christened there, so it’s an important stop for us.”

6/2/2006 7:02:08 PM GMT The TEAM weather consultant Ken Campbell predicts the following: "High pressure will be the primary weather feature for the boats through Monday. This high is currently over southern Ireland, but will drift S to over or just S of the race course from Land’s End to SW Ireland. Winds will be light or very light all the way into Monday."


6/2/2006 6:55:34 PM GMT According to the TEAM weather consultant Ken Campbell, "a sea breeze has developed across the West Solent, where the winds are SW at nine to 14 knots to the East Solent, where winds are S at eight to 12 knots. These two different wind directions meet just E of Cowes, so there will be a few wind holes for the boats near the N side of the Isle of Wight."

6/2/2006 6:51:19 PM GMT The boats are passing Cowes Island. There is a tacking duel between Brasil 1 and Pirates. Ericsson is approaching on their heels with ABN AMRO TWO gaining on them.

6/2/2006 6:45:08 PM GMT The leaders are heading past Brambles Bank, with Brasil 1 powering ahead in the lead. Pirates had a minor technical problem but has regained speed.

6/2/2006 6:42:50 PM GMT There is a high pressure system awaiting the crews tonight, which could slow the entire fleet down considerably in the next 12 hours.

6/2/2006 6:38:41 PM GMT The breeze has picked up considerably. Many of the boats have tacked by now. Ericsson has now climbed up to third place over ABN AMRO TWO.
