Jerrell Hasselbaink ligt in Engeland onder vuur. De Engelse voetbalbond FA heeft de aanvaller van Charlton Athletic in staat van beschuldiging gesteld wegens het in discrediet brengen van het voetbal. De spits heeft volgens de FA Chelsea in een kwaad daglicht gesteld in zijn autobiografie.


Hasselbank, 34 inmiddels, speelde in het verleden vier seizoenen bij Chelsea. In zijn biografie zegt Hasselbaink dat de Londense club zijn spelers in 2004 illegale bonussen betaalde naar aanleiding van de winst op Arsenal in de kwartfinales van de Champions League. Dat is tegen de regels van de Premier League.

Chelsea ontkende dat er extra betalingen zijn gedaan. De FA stelde een eigen onderzoek in naar de beweringen. De bond meldde maandag dat voor de aantijgingen geen bewijs is gevonden.

Hasselbaink heeft tot 14 augustus zich te verweren.

Bouwvakkers lijken met de sloop van het roemruchte Wembley een vloek te hebben afgeroepen op de opvolger van de voetbaltempel. De bouw van het nieuwe Wembley heeft wederom vertraging opgelopen. De Australische maatschappij Multiplex Group verwacht niet dat er voor juni 2007 duels kunnen worden gespeeld. Het stadion had eigenlijk al af moeten zijn.

Multiplex heeft al vanaf het begin van de bouw met tegenslagen te kampen. Zo stortte al eens een deel van het dak in en werd de deadline door vertragingen al drie keer verlegd. De FA Cup-finale van 2006, die eigenlijk de openingswedstrijd van het nieuwe Wembley moest worden, werd al verplaatst naar het Millennium Stadium in Cardiff en ook de eindstrijd van 2007 lijkt in de hoofdstad van Wales te moeten worden afgewerkt.

It has always been our view that the stadium's delays are Multiplex’s responsibility.

“Notwithstanding this, WNSL is geared up for opening the new stadium. We have recruited a team of over 6,200 people and the next step for them is to begin the final stages of training inside the stadium itself. We can only begin this final stage when Multiplex has sufficiently finished its works. At that point we will be able to enter the stadium to start the handover process, begin our final training and carry out limited works which include the installation of radio communications systems, mobile cash machines and national flags. These items will be completed at the same time as we prepare for the test events which will precede our first full capacity event.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is terug in Engeland. De boulevardbladen kondigden al aan dat er grote vrees bestaat over de veiligheidssituatie als Manchester United het land intrekt voor oefenduels, zoals volgende week dinsdag bij Oxford United.

Tijdens het WK maakte Cristiano Ronaldo zich weinig geliefd in het kwartfinaleduel met Engeland en zijn gedrag bij de rode kaart van Wayne Rooney. Flink wat Engelsen zouden de Portugese aanvaller beu zijn en op wraak belust zijn, aldus de bladen.

Er circuleert op het internet zelfs een commercial van een voetbalpop van Cristiano Ronaldo. Deze action figure rent, dribbelt het strafschopgebied in en stort ineens tegen de grond. Maar even later springt hij direct weer overeind en geeft hij een knipoog.

Chelsea to make Gallas statement

Chelsea will release a statement later on Tuesday regarding unsettled French defender William Gallas.

Reports suggest the 28-year-old failed to join up with the rest of the squad at a pre-season training camp in Los Angeles on Monday.

Gallas told the Blues in May that he wanted to leave - amid reports that he was unhappy at playing at full-back instead of his preferred centre-back.

His current contract runs out in 2007 and he has yet to sign a new one.

The France international has been offered a new four-year contract and Chelsea have said they are not willing to sell him.

Gallas, a Ŗ6m signing from Marseille, has made more than 200 appearances for Chelsea in five years.

And one thing appears certain, that Vieira will not be playing for Juventus next season.

He added: "Now I'm not sure where I'm playing next season, I'm still looking for a new club.

"There might be some sort of conclusion in the next 48 hours and it's a very important decision for me.

"I will not be playing for Juventus since they are going to Serie B."

Emerson and Fabio Cannavaro left Juventus last month and joined former Juve coach Fabio Capello at Real Madrid, while Gianluca Zambrotta and Lilian Thuram headed for Barcelona.
