Malcolm Drilling has one of the largest and most up to date equipment inventories in the world. John Malcolm has moved to the forefront in buying the latest in equipment from Europe, using top drives rotary drilling rigs and the fully cased method using oscillators and rotators. In addition, a large inventory of customized drilling tools has also been developed. Some of these drilling rigs are featured here as well as some of our conventional and specialty rigs.
Casagrande C800
The Casagrande C800 is one of the largest rotary top drives in the world today. It can twist casing up to 1.5M (59.1”) down into the ground depending on soil conditions. This model comes with the HD 50/40 rotary head with 375,000 ft. lbs. of torque on the outside and 316,000 ft. lbs. at 4rpm on the kelly capable of drilling to over 250’ depths.
Soilmec 825
Malcolm’s Soilmec 825 is a self erecting hydraulic rotary drill rig with sliding drill head. It has a crawler mounted undercarriage with wide tracks, hydraulically extendable parallelogram system. The articulated sides are extended by a hydraulic cylinder. The 825 can be used in a double rotary configuration (like Klemms) to construct a secant wall or diaphragm wall panels. It can drill up to 12’ plus diameter with a drill depth of 77M or 250 ft. The Soilmec 825 uses a 408hp Deutch motor. The 825 delivers 179,000 ft lbs. of torque.
Liebherr 883
The Liebherr 883 HD 140 ton hydraulic crawler crane comes equipped with a water cooled V-12 Mercedes Benz diesel turbocharged engine with a 812hp rating. The 883 has a single line pull of 67,500 lbs. and a gross weight of 300,000 lbs.
Mait Baby Drill
The Baby Drill is remote controlled and comes with a dismountable power pack. This unique mini-drilling rig can enter a 3.28’ wide door with ease and can work under low overhead ceilings. Comes equipped with two different length kellys with a max drill depth of 49’ with 30” diameter hole and a minimum working height of 12’3”.
Leffer Grab Hammer
Weighing in at over 20 tons, this 2.5 meter grab is shown with regular jaws. It is used to clean out the large diameter holes that Leffer oscillators and rotators drill. MDCI utilizes a Liebherr 873 or 883 HD crane to operate this piece of equipment.
Watson 6000 Crane Mount
This Watson 6000 crane mount attached to the 218 Linkbelt crane is capable of large diameter shafts up to 115’ deep. The direct drive torque for this piece of equipment is 200,000 ft lbs. At 13 rpm machine puts out 350,000 ft lbs. of torque.
Mr. Z
Custom built in 1996, the Mr. Z tieback machine is mounted on a 1994 Komatsu PC 220LF-6 crawler mounted hydraulic excavator with Komatsu S6D 102-1 diesel engine, hydraulic motor drive. A 400 Cummings diesel with a 27 Sunstrand pump turns the auger at speeds of up to 96 rpm. Mr. Z is designed for 4” drill steel with dragbit going up to 16” continuous flight auger. Can also be used with a 16” down hole hammer. This machine is designed for the high production soil nails and tie backs. Can also reach up 18’ in the air at 20 degrees.
Bauer BG 40
The Bauer BG 40 is one of the most powerful top drives made. This machine is excellent for use in hard rock. Malcolm’s BG 40 comes equipped with a Sennebogen undercarriage and is capable of drilling large diameter shafts 10’ to a depth of 240’. The BG 40 delivers 275,000 ft lbs. of torque.
Leffer VRM 3050 (10’) Hydraulic Casing Oscillator
The Leffer hydraulic casing oscillator 3050 (10’) large earth boring machine has over 8 million foot pounds of torque and 1,750,000 foot pounds of extraction force. This machine is capable of drilling well over 200’ deep by 10’ diameter using the “oscillating method” to pull the casing down as it cuts through the varying soils or rock formations – (alluviums, sands and gravel.)
3.0M (10’) Leffer Rotator
The Leffer 3.0M Rotator is a state of the art earth boring machine capable of drilling a 10’ diameter holes over 200’ deep fully cased. By fully casing the hole, it causes less overbreak and creates a cleaner pile. It can be used in a wide variety of soils and rock conditions but best use is in hard rock and soft problematic soils. The machine has over 5 million foot pounds of torque and 1 million plus for extraction. By utilizing reduction inserts, the pile diameter can be reduced down to 2.8M (9’) or 2.5M (8’). Clean out of casing is accomplished by using a large grab in conjunction with a heavy duty crane.
