De testcoureur van het Honda-team, Anthony Davidson, heeft het ronderecord op het Spaanse circuit van Valencia gebroken. Gisteren brak Kimi Raikkonen in zijn McLaren het ronderecord dat deze winter was gereden, maar Anthony Davidson heeft het algemene record gebroken.

De Brit laat zien dat zijn team in erg goede staat is op het moment. Vorige week zette Jenson Button een erg scherpe rondetijd in Barcelona, met vlak daarachter Fernando Alonso in zijn Renault.

Opmerkelijk is de snelheid die Davidson neer wist te zetten. Kimi Raikkonen reed gisteren de snelste tijd in Valencia van deze winter, de Fin reed een 1:09.423. Davidson reed vanochtend naar een 1:08.536, bijna één seconde sneller dan Raikkonen gisteren reed. Later vandaag meer over de test in Valencia.

Day two testing report from Valencia

The weather was slightly cooler in Valencia yesterday morning (Wednesday) for the start of the second day of the test, with a track temperature of 7˚c and an ambient temperature of 8˚c.


Anthony Davidson ran through some early set-up runs to check the balance of the car before completing a tyre evaluation, covering 55 laps in the morning session.

He continued to work on tyre evaluation programme throughout the afternoon, looking at options for the forthcoming races. Anthony completed a further 89 laps in the afternoon session, bringing his total for the day to 144 laps.

Anthony will conclude the test today – the final day of running before the start of the new season.

Volgens het Duitse magazine Auto Motor und Sport hebben vijf topteams een overeenkomst ondertekend voor een beperking van het aantal tests tot 36 dagen. Tegen alle verwachtingen heeft Ferrari zich aangesloten bij Renault, McLaren, Honda en Williams voor de testbeperking. De overige teams zouden hun goedkeuring moeten geven via fax.

De Scuderia veegde vorig seizoen zijn voeten aan de mondelinge overeenkomst tussen de andere teams, omdat Ferrari het beter vond om het aantal testkilometers te beperken en niet het aantal testdagen. Ferrari moest hiervoor heel wat kritiek slikken van de andere teams en de fans.

De nieuwe overeenkomst loopt vanaf de Grote Prijs van Bahrein op 12 maart tot de Grote Prijs van Brazilië op 22 oktober. In de eerste vier weken van augustus, tussen de Duitse en Turkse GP, geldt er een algemeen testverbod.

Vanaf 2008 wilde de Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) een testbeperking opleggen aan alle teams. Het was diezelfde FIA die eind 2001 besloot om de teams onderling een testbeperking te laten afspreken. Echter ontstond er sindsdien niets als onenigheid tussen de teams.

het plaatje van Webber en Sato is zeer verwarrend. Er is gebruikt gemaakt van het plaatje van vorig jaar maar de shirts die ze aan hebben is best verwarrend.

Webber rijd dit jaar bij Wiliams. BMW maakt daar geen onderdeel meer vanuit; desondanks staat er duidelijk een BMW logo op zn shirt. Het lijkt daardoor dat er 3 rijders zijn voor BMW!!

Sato rijd dit jaar voor Super Aguri. Er is een plaatje gebruikt van zn BAR tijd waarop ook nog eens een Honda logo staat. ok, Super Aguri gebruikt wel Honda motoren maar het lijkt net of het een Honda team is.

Misschien als er voor deze rijders een ander plaatje beschikbaar is dan kunnen deze worden doorgevoerd, helpt de overzichtelijkheid...

We are now less than a week away from the start of the 2006 F1 season. The Formula 1 teams have covered thousands of kilometres in testing to have their cars both fast and reliable for the first race but we know that only a few teams actually manage to achieve that target on time.

Trying to figure out which team is on form and which is not is always hard but this season it is even harder due to a number of changes in the regulations. There is the new V8 engine, the re-introduction of tyre changes and the new (and somewhat confusing) qualifying rules.
Many are hoping that we'll have a 4 way fight for the Championship this year and whilst this would be great news for Formula 1, I very much doubt that would happen.

Testing times are hard to read at the best of times but it is the only data available. Renault and Honda have been the most reliable and both have also been very fast. McLaren started their pre-season testing with little reliability but improved dramatically in the last few test sessions. The expectation was that lap times would be around 2.5 seconds slower in 2006 due to the reduced engine capacity. Those 3 teams set time much closer to the lap records for 2005. In fact Honda set a time even faster than the lap record of 2005 in Valencia!
Ferrari are hard to read as they have hardly shared testing with another team to make time comparisons. It doesn't appear that they are as reliable as before and whilst they've showed some impressive speed in Fiorano, they didn't appear to be particularly fast in Mugello.
Toyota were the first to test their new car back in November and have had a major update since then. They seem to be reliable but their times are not so impressive.
Williams seem to be struggling with their 'seamless' gearbox and that is a big enough distraction while BMW Sauber seems to have the reliability and a bit of speed.

So who is hot and who is not ?
Expect to see another fight between Renault and McLaren, Ferrari could be close depending on how good the Bridgestones are while Honda may become a threat later in the season.
Toyota and Williams will need time to adjust to the Bridgestones while BMW Sauber may surprise a few.
It will take at least half a season to see the effect of Newey at Red Bull while MF1, Toro Rosso and Super Aguri will be circulating at the back in that order.

The Sakhir track (track layout) offers a combination of long straights and slow speed corners offering a number of overtaking opportunities. Cars will run a high downforce configuration.
The weather will not be as hot as it was last year as the race is run a month earlier so it will have less of an effect on the car however it will be the first time for many teams to run their cars in the warm temperatures of the Middle East.

Ferrari, Honda and Toro Rosso actually tested at this track in February giving them an advantage over the rest of the field at this race. How much of an advantage remains to be seen but at least they will save some mileage on their engines during the practice sessions and that may help them the following week in Malaysia.

Here is a team by team preview:

Renault: Seem to have both reliability and speed. That despite being the last team to actually run their V8 engine in the car on the track. Testing showed they are consistently fast over long distances and that is more important than setting a single superfast lap.
They finished 2005 on a high by winning the Constructors' Title and they will be contenders for the 2006 titles.

Drivers: Fernando Alonso is the new World Champion and will try to defend his title and will most likely succeed in a similar way to 2005. He has proved to be a top class driver and he will try his best. His move in 2007 to McLaren shouldn't affect things at Renault as both himself and the team want to win. Of course things could be different if he struggles early in the season but there is no reason to expect that.

Giancarlo Fisichella will be closer to Alonso this year but will still be slower. His only hope is for Alonso to struggle early in the season and that isn't likely to happen.


McLaren: They were very unreliable early in pre-season testing but improved dramatically in the last few tests. The earlier problems must have set them back a bit but it does look like they have a very fast car, possibly the fastest. The question remains though, can the McLaren be reliable in the first few races ? I am not too confident!
The departure of Adrian Newey to Red Bull Racing will have an effect on the team. The extent will be measured by the rate of development on the McLaren car compared to the others.

Drivers: Kimi Raikkonen having finished 2nd in the Drivers' Championship twice he wants to do one better. If the McLaren is reliable, he could do it, otherwise he may have to attempt winning the title with another team. (Rumours have it that Raikkonen is heading to Ferrari in 2007)
In any case, we will be entertained by Raikkonen fighting it out with his team-mate and Alonso.

Juan Pablo Montoya has to at least match Raikkonen. Of course he would want to beat him but that would be difficult. Montoya needs to be more consistent and avoid backmarkers then he may have a chance!.


Ferrari: They didn't really impress in pre-season testing but were not slow either. It is unlikely that Bridgestone will have the tyres to match Michelin and that means Ferrari will be behind the Michelin top runners.
They've also had issues with reliability and the car doesn't appear to be as reliable as their earlier cars.
It would be great to see them back at the top challenging Renault and McLaren for wins but that isn't likely to happen particularly in the early part of the season.

Drivers: Michael Schumacher remains as committed as ever doing the majority of the testing for the team. If the car is fast and reliable, he will challenge for the title but I suspect it will be a bit behind and that may trigger his decision to retire, move to another team for a new challenge or (as rumours have it) set up his own F1 team for a totally different challenge!

Felipe Massa will be hoping to stay as close as possible to Michael. That will be difficult given the little amount of time he spent testing the new car. That is a strange one as a new driver would need as much time as possible in a new car but I suspect that the team need good technical feedback when testing the new car and Massa isn't experienced enough!.


Toyota: The didn't look impressive in testing and it is thought they are struggling adapting to the Bridgestone tyre. They've been testing the new car for nearly 4 months and one would expect them to be strong but so far they don't appear to be. They may surprise though!

Drivers: Ralf Schumacher can have a few good races each season. He has been consistent in that. Can he move a step up and make most of his races good races ? I doubt it.

Jarno Trulli is probably the best qualifier in the field and last year he demonstrated some consistency during the races as well. If he can maintain that consistently, he'll beat his team-mate but he won't challenge for the title and that isn't only due to his car.


Williams: They should capitalise on the power of the Cosworth early in the season as that engine is believed to be the most powerful at this stage. That is unlikely for Williams as they struggle with a new gearbox that has given them major problems in testing. If and when they fix the problems with the gearbox it may be too late as the manufacturers would have caught up with Cosworth.
Unless Williams gets a 'works' engine, they won't be title contenders.
Reliability 8.0/10 - Speed 8.5/10 (Latest Williams BMW Team News)

Drivers: Mark Webber has to deliver this year and that doesn't necessarily mean race wins if the car isn't fast enough. He must be consistent and stay focused despite the problems with the car. The skill is there.

Nico Rosberg is the GP2 Champion and has the potential to be a force to reckon with in a few years. This will be a learning year for him and going head to head against Mark will give us an idea of how good he is. Don't expect miracles though but he might match Webber later in the year on familiar tracks.


Honda: Despite the stunning times set in testing and the impressive reliability from the new car, I still doubt that Honda will challenge for the title. They may win a few races later this season but the car doesn't appear to be consistent enough in race trim. The current team don't have much experience in winning and that will take some time.

Drivers: Jenson Button in a similar (if not worse) position to Webber. He needs to win races this year. Button has had good seasons and bad ones. If this is to be a good season for him then he will have to win a few races!
It will be an interesting fight between him and Barrichello although I suspect Button to have the upper hand this season.

Rubens Barrichello will be eager to prove his critics wrong who claim he can only be a good support driver. He has the full support of Honda and is a proven winner. It will take him a bit of time to settle at Honda but after a few races we should see him close to Button beating him occasionally.


Red Bull: Have had problems with their cars in testing and it will take Adrian Newey a while before any of the changes he makes are felt on the track. Expect a much stronger car later in the season.

Drivers: David Coulthard is a very consistent driver. If the Red Bull is capable of points finishes, he will deliver. He better keep an eye on Klien though!

Christian Klien has a secured drive this year and none of that driver swap stuff. He will excel further and possibly surprise many.


BMW Sauber: Along with Honda, they will most likely fight for the title of most improved team of 2006 (compared to the Sauber of 2005 of course!). The new team has been working hard and the results from testing indicate they are on the right track. They are downplaying their chances but they too will surprise many.

Drivers: Nick Heidfeld will impress at BMW Sauber and if the car is very good, you'll see some very good results.

Jacques Villeneuve will have to match Heidfeld otherwise he may not even make it to the end of the season. Given that he's been with the team for a whole season, the two should be close but it really depends if Villeneuve still has what it takes and in the past few seasons he didn't show that.


MF1 Racing: They will have an interesting fight with Toro Rosso and later on Super Aguri. Don't expect them to compete with any other team.
Reliability 8.0/10 - Speed 7.0/10 (Latest MF1 Racing Team News)

Drivers: Christian Albers moves to MF1 from Minardi. He'll probably be quicker than his team-mate Montreiro but not as consistent.

Tiago Monteiro isn't fast but is consistent. He'll probably score a few points for the team over the season but won't impress with his speed!.


Toro Rosso: They will be the only team running a restricted V10 against the wishes of many of the other teams who argue that Toro Rosso can afford to buy V8 engines. They will run the Red Bull of last year with some modifications. But even then, they will not achieve any better than 9th. They remain a small team so don't expect them to start challenging the midfield runners all of a sudden.
They should capitalise on their reliability and score a few points early given that they are running a modified and restricted 2005 car but they will drop back as the season progresses.
Reliability 8.0/10 - Speed 7.0/10 (Latest Toro Rosso Team News)

Drivers: Vitantonio Liuzzi will start his first full season in F1. His performances in 2005 weren't anything impressive but that could have been due to the driver swap situation with Klien. This is his chance to show what he can do.

Scott Speed makes his F1 debut with Toro Rosso. It will be interesting to see how he compares to Liuzzi. It is great to see an American make it to Formula 1. Now lets hope he impresses.


Super Aguri: A 2002 Arrows modified for 2006 regulations running a 2006 Honda V8. I wonder if the car can handle that powerful engine!.
Don't expect much from Super Aguri until they race their new car scheduled in time for the European races. Until then, the races will be test events.
Reliability 7.0/10 - Speed 6.0/10

Drivers: Takuma Sato has the speed but seems to go over the limit too often. He shouldn't bother the rest of the field though.

Yuji Ide is virtually an unknown. He raced in the Formula Nippon series in Japan last year finishing second in the Championship. He has a steep learning curve ahead and hopefully he will gain experience without harming the chances of the other drivers.

Voor debutant Yuji Ide lijkt 2006 een moeilijk seizoen te worden nog voor het goed en wel begonnen is. De 31-jarige Japanner, die uit zal komen voor het onlangs opgerichte Super Aguri team, kampt met hoofdpijn en problemen met zijn gezichtsvermogen, klachten die hij vorig jaar heeft opgelopen bij een ongeluk in de seizoensfinale van de Japanse GT-raceklasse.

Weliswaar heeft Ide van Formule 1-dokter Gary Hartstein voorlopig groen licht gekregen om in Bahrein aan de start te verschijnen maar volgens het Duitse tijdschrift Motorsport aktuell wordt hij “bij nog een eventuele schuiver veiligheidshalve meteen teruggefloten.”

A1 Grand Prix naar Zandvoort

De A1 Grand Prix raceklasse, waarin Jos Verstappen de eer van ons land verdedigt, komt zo goed als zeker naar Circuit Park Zandvoort. De race zal medio oktober 2006 plaatsvinden. De bestuurders van het circuit zijn al sinds december 2005 in onderhandeling met sjeik Maktoem. Volgens een woordvoerder van het circuit is de overeenkomst nagenoeg rond en worden op dit moment de laatste details besproken.

Waar de woordvoerder van het circuit nog enige voorzichtigheid in acht nam, bleek circuitdirecteur Hans Ernst al volledig overtuigd van de komst van de nieuwe raceklasse. In het blad van de Kamer van Koophandel liet hij het volgende weten:

''Het is heel bijzonder dat we de A1 Grand Prix in huis hebben kunnen halen. Het is namelijk een enorme publiekstrekker en een opsteker voor het bedrijfsleven in en om Zandvoort, waar in oktober het toeristenseizoen afloopt. Daarnaast trekt de race miljoenen televisiekijkers, een geweldige promotie voor het circuit."

Ernst verwacht circa 70.000 bezoekers tijdens de race.

Provincie Noord-Holland heeft inmiddels een vergunning afgegeven voor de uitbreiding van het aantal racedagen op het circuit. Buurgemeente Bloemendaal heeft echter bezwaar aangetekend tegen die beslissing, waardoor de Raad van State het laatste woord heeft. Die neemt waarschijnlijk deze maand al een beslissing. Naar verwachting zal de vergunning worden goedgekeurd.

De A1 Grand Prix organisatie wilde nog niet op het nieuws reageren. "We zijn momenteel bezig met het samenstellen van de kalender voor seizoen 2006/2007. Tegen de tijd dat er iets te melden valt zullen we dat direct wereldkundig maken."

Klapvee bij SBS Autosport passé
De één ergerde er zich dood aan, de ander zat elke week op de tribune in de studio; Het klapvee, oftewel, het publiek bij de uitzendingen van SBS autosport op televisie. Maar goed nieuws voor de mensen die zich mateloos ergerden aan dit publiek, vanaf dit jaar zullen we geen publiek meer zien tijdens de uitzendingen, dat meldt het blad Formule 1.

Hierdoor zullen er vanaf nu meer reportages komen vanaf locatie en minder vanuit de studio. Olav Mol laat als commentaar weten dat hij het jammer vindt, maar wel begrijpelijk. Volgens de commentator van het programma was het publiek te kostbaar.

Wat wél blijft is Tom Coronel als deskundige in de studio. Maar of iedereen daar nou zo blij mee is....

Persoonlijk is het mij om het even of er nog op Zandvoort geraced wordt in vooraanstaande klassen. Het is niet bepaald meer een fantastisch circuit, de locatie zelf is ook niet echt je van het en constant het Nederlanse geouwehoer over geluidsdagen e.d. is ook om te janken.

Als zo'n klasse ipv Zandvoort naar Spa of Brno zou gaan vind ik dat zelf mooier. Zandvoort is niet goed genoeg meer.

"It is great to be back racing in Bahrain this weekend. It has been a busy winter season for us, with hard work taking place in every part of the team. The car has felt good on track and is quick, which can be seen from the improvements in lap times of more than 3 seconds. Of course I want to carry on from our performance last year and be challenging for race wins, however we will only see where we are in Bahrain after qualifying. It is also going to be interesting this weekend to go back to tyre changes in the pit stops, we had to adapt driving styles slightly for last year as we didn't have tyre changes, so it may mean people are more aggressive as it is not so important to look after your tyres. Bahrain is a good track, it always seems to have exciting races and I hope there will be another one this year to start the 2006 season."

"The start of the 2006 season will be even more exciting than the previous years with all the changes of the technical and sporting regulations. It is a bit different for me this year as I now know the team and the car really well from the very start of the season. We have completed some intensive work on the test track. Since starting my test programme with the MP4-21 on 24 January I have been at the wheel for 12 days and covered more than 3500 km. In addition to this I have spent 8 days at the McLaren Technology Centre with the engineers, working on debriefs, seat-fitting and in the simulation department and I feel well prepared for the long season ahead. But as always there is a lot of work still to be done. The Bahrain track hasn't been my most successful venue to date, and starting there will be slightly tougher for me, as I didn’t race there last season. However I qualified well in 2004 and I always enjoy driving on tracks designed by Hermann Tilke. It has a good mix of corners, turn 12 is pretty cool and quite like Eau Rouge, so you are pushing it hard through the corner as it sweeps you right up the hill. The track is quite tough on the brakes though, as there are a number of long straights and slow corners, and little chance for them to cool. However it is not as bad as Canada, but we do need to make sure we manage this through the race."

“We are well prepared and want to do well right from the start of the season. Further, we know the track fairly well as we tested there in mid-February. Last season we didn't even know if we would be able to get the new car to the starting grid, though we did it in the end. The race went quite well and I managed to keep pace with Fernando Alonso before suffering from hydraulic problems. This time, I think, we will be more competitive."

"It's always nice to return to racing after the long winter break. Of course we will have to wait and see how the first couple of races go before we can truly compare our position to the others. We've been working with the TF106 since November so we've had plenty of time to put mileage on all the mechanical parts. The tests have gone well and both the car and the new V8 engine have run reliably so we should be confident heading to Sakhir, which is a great modern facility. Bahrain will be hot but at this time of year it should not be exceptional. Either way, all the teams have so much experience that the heat shouldn't make any difference from a technical point of view. So let's hope it's nice and warm. After a winter in Europe, that would be very welcome..."

"I've only had good results when I've raced in Bahrain, particularly last year when I made the podium in second place. I had never been to the area before the race arrived on the calendar but Bahrain is incredible as an F1 venue. The facilities are state-of-the-art, much like Malaysia and China, and it has treated me well so far! It would be wonderful to achieve something similar again, so that is why everyone at Toyota has worked all winter to be as prepared as possible for this first grand prix of the year. The new season brings new challenges in every area. There are lots of new factors - the V8 engine, our Bridgestone tyres and of course the new qualifying system where cars will be eliminated during the session. That will be a bit more complicated than last year but it still boils down to producing a quick lap just when it matters. I'm confident that the TF106 can deliver strong results, but as ever we will only find out when we get on track with everyone this weekend."

"Our pre-season testing programme has been extremely positive. The RA106 was strong and reliable from the start which has enabled us to complete plenty of mileage and given me the confidence to push the development from an early stage. I tried to complete as much testing as possible over the winter, which is reflected by the amount of kilometres I have driven. I have also been training hard and feel mentally and physically stronger than ever before. The Bahrain International Circuit is a great track and I enjoy racing here. There are several overtaking opportunities which always makes things exciting and the fast flowing sections are great. Testing in Bahrain in February was hugely beneficial for us and we are the only Michelin team to have tested the tyres and our car in the hot conditions prior to the race. I think that we have a really competitive package, and although this is the first time we will really see where we are compared to the other teams, I hope to be challenging for wins. I can't wait for the racing to begin this weekend."

"Bahrain is hosting the curtain-raiser for the first time. That's something very special, and I think it will be reflected in the atmosphere of the event. They say ticket sales are high. What's special about the circuit is quite simply that it's in the desert. It means the track surface is always very sandy and dirty at the start, which results in very little grip. Lap times only improve gradually. Record temperatures such as the 42 Celsius we had last year are probably not on the cards for 2006, so the race won't be quite such a strain.

“The Bahrain circuit is an average to high-speed track. It demands high aerodynamic efficiency and a good engine for the long straight. We did a lot of testing over the winter and I feel pretty confident. I'm desperately looking forward to my first race after a long gap and I can't wait to see what the competition is like. It's hard to make any predictions, but my guess is that Renault and Honda will be in the lead to start with, possibly followed by McLaren and Ferrari, and then a group of closely bunched teams. We will probably be in with that group."

"Bahrain is one of the hottest races of the year, and on top of that the first race is always the hardest one physically. So for sure it will be tough for the drivers and for the cars. Some teams have been testing on the Bahrain track recently, which means that they will have a big advantage. The track itself is fun and not too physical muscularly. We will cope with the heat, we are ready for that.

“We have done a lot of winter testing, much more than one year ago, which is very positive. However, it's time to start. I'm really looking forward to the first race, because this is what it's all about."

It will certainly be a steep learning curve for me, but it also means attending a race for the first time since 1995 without actually taking part. So far I've always managed to learn the circuits easily. I only know the Bahrain track from television and computer games, which I really enjoy, although they hardly teach you more than the track layout.

“I have been studying race simulations to learn the Bahrain circuit and the braking for the first corner looks challenging! I have never visited Bahrain, so I am excited to go. I am expecting tough conditions as it is my first F1 race but also because of the hot weather. I have driven in the heat at Sepang in Malaysia for Formula Nippon, but I know that dry heat will be very different. Whenever I race in hot conditions I am very careful to monitor my liquid intake and take care of what I am drinking for my re-hydration. The anticipation of my first Formula One race is nearly over and I am very excited about it.”

De hoofdrol in de film is weggelegd voor de Franse acteur Gérard Depardieu die Obelix zal gaan spelen.

De film, waarin Asterix door Clovis Cornillac gepeeld zal worden, zal vanaf 19 juni opgenomen gaan worden in het Zuid-Spaanse landschap.

Het gaat niet om een goedkoop b-filmpje, want met een budget van 78 miljoen euro zal het de duurste film ooit in de Europese Bioscopen worden.

Welke rol er voor Michael Schumacher weggelegd is, maakt het bericht niet bekend.
