Extra info bedford:
verschillende modellen. The Bedford TJ appeared in 1958 and was an updated version of the TD range of Bedfords. The main features were a single piece windscreen and the adoption of 16" road wheels up to the 4 ton payload model,to give low body platform heights.
The cab could be supplied with two types of front wing and grille assembly, one to suit 16"wheels and one for the larger trucks with 20" wheels. The smaller ones have headlamp 'hoods' and vertical grille bars, whereas on the larger models horizontal grille bars are used. The range covered the 30cwt to 7ton payload range plus an 8ton tractor unit, based on the 5ton and were offered with the 214cu.in.petrol up to the 5tonner,the 300cu.in petrol in the 5 tonner upwards, the 200/220cu.in.diesels up to the 4 tonner and the 300/330cu.in diesels in the 5ton upwards. The gearbox was the standard Bedford 4 speed in close or wide ratio dependent on model plus the option of an E.N.V 5 speed direct top box in the 5ton up models. Axles were spiral bevel up to 4ton and hypoid in the larger trucks, plus there was the option of a Bedford two speed axle in 5ton up models.
TJs were also built in India from 1968 by Hindustan motors and are totaly local in content,as far as i know they are still being built out there. When Bedford finished in 1986 a lot of old Bedford parts subsequently went over to India, which is why you don't see many lying around in scrapyards, they were a lucrative dismantlers vehicle especially the larger ones with 6 cylinder diesels.
