Burdisso in Bojinov swap link

A deal that would see Inter’s Nicolas Burdisso and Fiorentina’s Valeri Bojinov swap sides until the end of the season is being mooted in Italy.

Viola President Andrea Della Valle and Nerazzurri owner Massimo Morattti are known to enjoy excellent relations and with Inter looking for a replacement for Obafemi Martins during his African Cup absence, Bojinov has been targeted.

The precocious 19-year-old has been something of a bit-part player in Fiorentina’s success story this season, playing mostly as substitute while Luca Toni has gone from strength to goalscoring strength.

Inter, though, are said to be very interested in the promising Bulgarian – signed for £11m from Lecce last January – and are willing to offer the services of Burdisso in exchange.

The 24-year-old has barely featured for Inter since signing for them last year due to a lengthy absence, as a result of family problems, and Fiorentina are looking for strength in numbers at the back.

However, it is thought that Coach Cesare Prandelli is not interested in parting with Bojinov, whom he sees as an important figure in his side’s push for a Champions League place this season.

The tactician would simply prefer for the Argentine to come to Tuscany in an individual loan deal until the end of the season.

Zoro given Messina captaincy

Marc Zoro has received the captain’s armband just days after threatening to walk off if racist chanting continued, but the Messina man admits he probably won’t repeat the gesture.

“I don’t know if I’d do it again,” said the Ivory Coast international. “I do hope it made some people stop and think. I was very pleased that the Inter players agreed with me and they were the ones who convinced me to resume play.”

Zoro picked up the ball and tried to walk off the pitch during Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to the Nerazzurri after repeated racist chanting from visiting fans. Adriano and Obafemi Martins proved instrumental in calming the situation down, but this merely highlighted an existing problem throughout Italy and Europe.

“It wasn’t an isolated incident, as it has happened to me a few times. This is why I believe the FIGC’s decision to postpone all kick-offs by five minutes this week in protest is a good one. Unfortunately, racism doesn’t only exist in football stadiums. Shopkeepers sometimes look at me strangely, as if they think I won’t have the money to buy goods.”

Messina President Pietro Franza is attempting to build bridges in the city and beyond by handing Zoro the captain’s armband for the trip to Treviso.

“We will do everything we can to make him captain and we hope he’ll accept,” explained the patron. “Even if it won’t be easy, we’ll go to the Stadio Tenni looking for a victory and I’d like to make three or four new signings in January to reinforce the squad.”

Zoro’s situation isn’t the only problem at Messina, as there are constant reports that Coach Bortolo Mutti is set to be replaced by former Lazio and Siena boss Giuseppe Papadopulo.

“It is completely untrue that a defeat at Treviso will lead to Mutti’s dismissal. I have never met Papadopulo, nor discussed anything with him.”
