Serie A minnows Livorno have decided to retire their No 10 shirt in honour of former fan favourite Igor Protti.
The striker, who netted 144 goals in all competitions for the outfit, decided to hang up his boots at the end of last season.
President Aldo Spinelli was instrumental in the move and an official ceremony will take place before Sunday’s match against Lazio – one of Protti’s former clubs.
Veel traangas, gewonden en arrestaties.quote:Thursday’s Italian Cup match between Napoli and Roma was overshadowed by crowd disturbances which resulted in 15 policemen being injured and 27 arrests.
Clashes between Napoli fans and the forces of order began before the match when the riot police were forced to use tear gas to protect visiting Roma supporters from attack.
The Napoli fans responded by launching a firework at the away section of the San Paolo Stadium during the game – mirroring the shocking incident in which a Sampdoria supporter was hit in the head by a similar missile at Ascoli earlier this season.
The violence continued after the 3-0 win for the Giallorossi with the disturbances spilling into the streets, as a police car was set alight and stones were thrown at the nearby offices of Naples daily, ‘Le Cronache di Napoli’.
All of the injured were policemen, who managed to arrest 27 of the rioters and protect the Roma fans, who were only able to leave the ground three hours after the match finished.

Who the fcuk is Marco Amelia?
Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia has criticised Paolo Di Canio for his "stupid gesture" during yesterday’s turbulent clash with Lazio.
In direct contrast to Lazio’s right-wing supporter-base, the Tuscan side have a notorious communist following, who launched a firework at the visitors’ team bus when it arrived at the Stadio Picchi before the game.
This incident precipitated a pre-match skirmish between Lazio fans and police at the entrance to the ground which resulted in one policeman being injured, but the forces of order appeared to have the situation under control during the game which Livorno won 2-1.
However, Di Canio decided to inflame matters further upon being substituted on the hour by raising his right arm in a Roma style salute – a fascist gesture which infuriated the home crowd.
The Livorno ultras began singing anti-Fascist song "Piazza Loreto" – a reference to the square in Milan where deposed dictator Benito Mussolini and his henchmen were strung up after being captured and killed by the Partisans in 1945 – and became clearly agitated by the Lazio captain, who was fined for the same gesture in the Rome derby last season.
"It was a stupid gesture," said Amelia afterwards. "It’s not the fist time he’s done it either. There are rules in place for this sort of thing and I think the FA needs to take action."
Di Canio, a die-hard boyhood Lazio fan, also approached Lazio supporters after the match and repeated the gesture before throwing a black shirt into the crowd.
Kom terug naar Lazio!quote:Veron defends ‘man’s game’
Inter’s Juan Sebastian Veron hailed his side’s Milan derby win and defended his aggressive altercation with Kaka. "It’s a man’s game," he said.
Veron was delighted with the Nerazzurri’s 3-2 victory – a result that moved them into second place with Fiorentina – and confirms his unstinting belief in his side’s ability.
Alluding to off-field problems which have sidetracked Inter over recent months, the former Lazio and Chelsea midfielder said that this derby win will boost confidence and help Roberto Mancini’s men challenge Juventus, who are 10 points ahead of them in Serie A.
"It’s a win that stands us in good stead now and which will unite the squad as well as improve our League standing," he said.
"We knew that we were capable of doing well even after a bad start to the season and this is confirmation."
The Little Witch was one of Inter’s best players on the night and contributed to his side’s win with a particularly impressive first-half performance, but matters almost got out of hand after the break when he squared up to Kaka and almost made contact with his head.
"These things happen," said the 32-year-old. "Football is a man’s game and certain things sometimes occur, especially in the fraught atmosphere of a derby."
While Inter’s season has been given a huge boost by Sunday night’s win, Milan have slipped to fourth place following their third League defeat in four matches.
