THERE'S a Rotten surprise in store this coming Live 8 . . . punk gods the SEX PISTOLS are reforming for the gig. It's another extraordinary coup for the Geldof team who have already lined up the SPICE GIRLS for the Hyde Park concert. And it promises to be one of the highlights of an already phenomenal event. Live 8 organisers have been in touch with the remaining members of the band for the past fortnight in a bid to get the Seventies legends on the bill.
STEVE JONES, PAUL COOK and GLEN MATLOCK all agreed several days ago and now I can exclusively reveal that after much toing and froing JOHNNY ROTTEN has finally rubber stamped the deal. Johnny—real name JOHN LYDON—was considering the offer for most of the week but decided on Friday that he IS up for it. I'm told: "The others said ‘Yes' straight away but Johnny took his time. "He knew the rest of the band had given the reunion the green light so in the end he agreed." After a brief but infamous career crashing out albums like Never Mind The B******s, the Pistols disbanded shortly after bassist SID VICIOUS died of an overdose in 1979. Sid had joined the band two years earlier, replacing Matlock, who then filled the void when the band reunited in 1996.
After some lucrative gigs in 2002 and 2003 (and an appearance for Johnny on I'm A Celeb...) the Pistols are now back again for the Live 8 gig on Saturday, July 2. My source added: "No one ever thought they would see the day that the Sex Pistols would reform. But because Live 8 is such a special event it has made it possible. "And it wouldn't have been the same without Johnny."

"Everyone in the world will have the opportunity to view and interact with this groundbreaking event and collectively we will come together to have our voices heard and eliminate extreme poverty."
Geldof plea
Co-organiser Sir Bob Geldof is due to rally the Glastonbury Festival crowds when the festival joins the campaign to combat poverty in Africa, one week before Live 8.
The audience will be asked to link hands just after 1600 BST on Saturday to support Make Poverty History.
They will be urged to join the demonstration in Edinburgh on 2 July, just a few days before world leaders meet at the G8 summit at Gleneagles.

Live 8has just announced it's teaming up with music giant EMI for a worldwide deal for the Live 8 performances happening on July 2. According to the agreement, EMI will provide a large financial contribution to the Live 8 organization in exchange for the worldwide DVD rights to its concerts in the UK, Canada, US, France, Germany and Italy.
The concerts include performances by Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, Deep Purple, Dido, Green Day, Jay-Z, Elton John, Annie Lennox, Linkin Park, Madonna, Maroon 5, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, REM, Scissor Sisters, Sting, Joss Stone, U2, Keith Urban, Velvet Revolver, Robbie Williams, Brian Wilson and Stevie Wonder.
"We are very grateful to EMI for their financial contribution which helped to make the July 2nd concerts happen everywhere on the planet and thus nudge the world a little closer towards our shared aim," said Bob Geldof. "I hope this will be the biggest selling DVD of all time. It deserves to be."
Geldof isn't the only one excited. EMI Music Canada President Deane Cameron is just as keen. "On its own, the Toronto area show already boasts an astonishing line-up of artists," he said.

LONDEN (ANP) - Het Live 8 concert in Londen, dat zaterdag plaatsvindt, vereist een enorme voorbereiding. Vanaf donderdagavond zal een team van 2000 man in de weer zijn om het 141 hectare grote Hyde Park om te toveren in een concertarena, meldde het dagblad The Guardian donderdag.
Veertig uur later zal het park gereed zijn voor een publiek van 205.000 mensen die optredens van onder andere Paul McCartney, U2, Madonna en Coldplay te zien zullen krijgen. De Britse omroep BBC zet liefst dertig tv-camera's in.
Circa 150.000 gelukkigen zullen het concertpodium rechtstreeks kunnen aanschouwen, 55.000 minder gefortuneerden kunnen het concert volgen vanaf enorme televisieschermen die in het park neergezet worden. Hyde Park wordt hermetisch afgesloten voor mensen zonder kaartjes.
Artiesten
De muziekhelden die in Londen optreden krijgen ieder slechts vijftien minuten om hun kunsten te vertonen, omdat de artiestenlijst erg lang is. Sommigen van hen moeten meteen daarna weer weg, om elders nog een optreden te geven. Zo zullen Coldplay en U2 direct na hun optreden worden weggevlogen naar een ander podium.
Vertegenwoordigers van de Londense politie en het stadsbestuur hebben hun zorgen geuit over de bereikbaarheid van het evenement. Zij verwachten dat het transportnetwerk van de stad overbelast zal raken, omdat op zaterdag ook de vrouwenfinale van het tennistoernooi in Wimbledon en de Gay Pride plaats zullen vinden.
Andere steden
De organisatoren van het Live 8 concert in Londen werken nauw samen met de negen andere steden die ook een concert organiseren. Ook in Tokio, Moskou, Berlijn, Parijs, Rome, Londen, Cornwall, Johannesburg, Philadelphia en Barrie (Canada) zullen popartiesten van wereldformaat hun opwachting maken.
Wereldwijd zal 85 procent van de wereldbevolking de tien concerten via televisie, radio, internet of mobiele telefoon kunnen volgen. Organisator Bob Geldof wil met het Live 8 evenement een aanzet maken om armoede naar de geschiedenis te verwijzen.
Live 8 moet de G8 ertoe aanzetten om de schulden van de armste landen kwijt te schelden en de ontwikkelingshulp te verdubbelen. De top van de zeven rijkste landen ter wereld plus Rusland (G8) komt op 6, 7 en 8 juli bijeen in het Schotse Gleneagles.
Voor Berlijn is het programma ook weer iets aangepast. Ook daar worden 150.000 mensen verwacht.

Nee inderdaad, er zijn ergere dingen. Ik denk dat samenvattingen en dergelijke niet te missen zijn en in de Madonna community zijn ook genoeg mensen die het digitaal opnemen. Maar live kijken is toch leuker en spannender.
