KYLIE MINOGUE'S Welsh relatives have revealed the Australian star has been left weak and emotionally drained as she battles breast cancer. The actress-turned-singer is trying hard to remain in good spirits and is still hoping that she will be able to have children in the future. She revealed that she was suffering from the condition this May, forcing her to postpone her work commitments including an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival. Kylie has been having treatment in France and her extended family, who live in South Wales, have been keeping in close touch to get all the latest news. "It has been very tough for her, very draining," said her great uncle Dennis Riddiford, who moved back to Cymer near Maesteg from Australia, where the whole family had emigrated in the 1950s. "She has found the treatment very hard. And she has found it difficult coming to terms with the fact she has lost her hair," added the 77-year-old. "But she is a strong girl and she has made a joke out of it and is treating it as an opportunity to have a different hairstyle. "The chemotherapy seems to be working - she is halfway through her treatment and has a couple of months left. But still it won't be over - you never ever know when or if it might come back." He said that he first heard about Kylie's illness on the radio, but just an hour later the singer's mum Carol was on the phone from Down Under. "We were all absolutely devastated. It goes to show that cancer strikes whether you are rich or poor, famous or not," he said. He revealed that her weight has plummeted to around six stone after three surgical procedures including the removal of a tumour from her breast. "It's obviously a worry she might not make it. She is such a tiny little thing - she's been struggling to cope with the treatment. "It has been wearing her out. "I know it has made her very weak. She is battling as hard as she can. "She has a strong spirit - but she is very small and at this moment so vulnerable." Kylie's second cousin Elizabeth Herbert, a carer from Neath, added, "The doctors are closely monitoring her. "They are worried she won't be able to fight it if it comes back. "If that happens, it is best not to think about it... we are trying to stay positive for her." She has known Kylie since they first met when the singer was just four. She said that Kylie's worst fear is that the illness will prevent her from becoming a mum. "Her illness has made her re-prioritise her life. If she gets through this she would love nothing more than to start a family. "She will make a wonderful mum - she has such a great attitude and has excelled in everything she has done so I am sure she would in that." Mr Riddiford also revealed that Kylie's boyfriend Olivier Martinez is the man she would like to marry. He added, "She's been wanting to settle down for some time but hadn't found the right person. "But Olivier seems to be the one. She seems to think so." The retired carpenter also gave a progress report where he said the outlook has improved for Kylie in recent weeks. "Carol seemed a lot more positive about Kylie's well-being and was a lot happier about how she was coping." He last saw the star at a concert in Birmingham only weeks before she was diagnosed; 20 of the singer's family travelling from Wales. "It was a cracking night. She was in great form. "Kylie looked so healthy and full of life."

quote:LONDON (Reuters) - Kylie Minogue is in good spirits and "as healthy as can be expected" considering her treatment for breast cancer, a statement issued on her behalf said on Friday.
Released to dispel rumors that the Australian singer had suffered dramatic weight loss and was seeking alternative forms of therapy, it said the 37-year-old did not want reports in British media to deceive fellow sufferers.
"Kylie Minogue's management have today said that despite the wealth of rumors to the contrary, she is in good spirits and is as healthy as can be expected whilst undergoing her treatment regime in Paris," her record label EMI said.
"She has asked her fans please not to believe stories of dramatic weight loss and desperate searches for alternative therapy."
Several newspapers carried stories reporting that the singer had sought the help of Nish Joshi, a London-based doctor and health guru whose client list includes celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Ralph Fiennes, Patsy Kensit and Kate Moss.
"Kylie has made it clear to her representatives that she doesn't want fellow sufferers to be misguided by the false stories regarding her condition and her choice of doctors." Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and underwent surgery in Australia before moving to Paris for further treatment. Her boyfriend, French actor Olivier Martinez, lives in the city.

quote:Kylie Minogue viert kerst zonder familie

quote:Kylie Minogue has reportedly been given the all-clear by doctors in Paris.
According to The Sun, Kylie was told the good news earlier this week.
"Kylie was desperate to see her family. She just wanted to hug them all and tell them it was going to be okay," a source told the paper.
"She is thrilled and relieved. It's been a tough few months and there have been times when she felt very weak and very down. Chemotherapy is a gruelling, horrible treatment, which puts the body under intense strain. But this is the news she has been waiting to hear and she can hardly put her happiness into words - she just keeps beaming. For the past couple of months she has been feeling very positive and healthy. She has put a bit of weight on and has been feeling confident about the future. Her hair is even beginning to grow back, which she is tickled pink about. So this news really is the icing on the cake."
The hospital visits aren't over, however, and the singing star will start radiation treatment shortly, which is supposed to guard against cancerous cells returning. (13 January, 2006, 8AM) SOURCE: THE SUN
quote:Kylie camp denies chemo report
Kylie Minogue's Australian publicist has denied reports the Australian pop singer has beaten breast cancer.
London's The Sun newspaper reported that Minogue was told by doctors last week that chemotherapy treatment had destroyed the cancerous cells in her body.
The 37-year-old was overjoyed at hearing that her six months of chemotherapy had been successful, the paper reported.
The chart-topping singer first underwent treatment for breast cancer in Melbourne last May after finding a lump in her left breast.
She underwent chemotherapy in Paris and was photographed looking gaunt and pale, wearing head scarves - presumably because of hair loss caused by the treatment.
But her publicist denied the report.
"There's no validity to this. It's not true," she told theage.com.au.
Her publicist was unable to confirm whether Minogue was still receiving treatment.
The London tabloid reported that Minogue had returned home to Melbourne for further medical treatment, and to spend time with her family, but the publicist said she was unsure if Kylie was even in Australia.
