Hij was overigens voor die tijd al bekend als radio Jock.
Hij leerde het vak van grootheden als Charlie Patton en Sonnie Boy Williamson (dat was zijn zwager)

The song approaches triteness as it moves away from the Doolittle imitation, but the melody is strong enough to hold it up for the most part. The same is true with “Black Path”, which is fully orchestrated, risking annoying grandiosity, but manages to fulfill its promises both musically and lyrically. Craig B. sings in his ever sincere voice, “It’s time to follow the black path/ And come tomorrow, you won’t laugh/ At love” in the song’s introduction, and he notes “Right now I can see the ground turn from green and red and black to gray/ where everyone becomes afraid/ Of you” before the strings climax in a surprisingly effective manner.
