Ze gaan nog meer extra concerten in New York geven en nu kan ik alsnog een General Admission kaartje kopen. (omdat ik op wonderbaarlijke wijze een nieuwe code heb gekregen vorige week)
Maar ik heb al een kaartje wat ik niet zomaar kan doorverkopen omdat ik het persoonlijk op moet halen bij de kassa.

Willie, who has been working with U2 since the early 1980's, is also an unrivalled tour diarist and his behind-the-scenes take on life on the road will start appearing on U2.Com shortly.
His day job - designing the show - means he is pretty preoccupied at present. And the other problem is that he doesn't want to give the game away before showtime! All the same he took a few minutes out to drop us some hints and clues as to how it's all going.
How many crew are at work on the new show ?
Seventy five.
Is it going well so far ?
So far so good - band saw it all in one place for the first time yesterday and were very excited. Bono commented he's never heard the crew so excited about a production either, which is rare.
Will the show be very different from the last time ?
Yes and no.....
Can we expect more of Zoo TV, Popmart, or Elevation in the new show ?
I commented yesterday that the spirit of all three of these shows is very definitely present in the building.
Are there songs you are especially looking forward to having in the set ?
Yes yes yes. But I can't tell you what they are. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something bluesy...
Do the crew rehearse the set without the band ?
Yes.
Is that odd ?
Perhaps, but its far less trouble.
Are there particular technological innovations that might surprise audiences ?
Yes. Anyone might end up being part of the show (even if you're in the back row) so wear something smart and comb your hair.
On a scale of one to ten, how nervous are you about it all coming together on time?
Knackered, yes, but nervous ? No, not really. It always comes together on time - it has to. Whatever we've got ready by 8.45pm on March 28th is what we go with. Besides, I can already sense that this show will grow as it goes along.
Does getting a U2 show together compare in any way with getting a show together for any other act ?
No. The combined energy of their vision, music, determination, visual intelligence, humour and ambition is something I haven't seen equalled

The event will reportedly be open only to a small group of contest winners from participating stations, which include KMMT in Seattle, 107.1 The Peak in White Plains, New York, KISS 108 in Boston and TIC-FM in Hartford, CT. U2 fan site U2log.com lists additional stations that could not be verified at press time.
The latest round of additions brings U2's North American tour schedule to a total of 73 announced shows (not counting the dress rehearsal). In 2001, the band played 80 North American dates on their Elevation tour behind their CD release "All That You Can't Leave Behind." U2's current release, "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" currently holds the #54 slot on Billboard's Top 200 pop albums chart.

U2's Manager Offers Tour Preview
There's just five days to go until Irish rockers U2 launch their Vertigo world tour at the San Diego Sports Arena on Monday night.
And long-time band manger Paul McGuinness says the group enjoyed themselves during a week of rehearsals in Canada, at Vancouver's GM Place. Toronto has to wait until September for their four sold-out shows at the Air Canada Centre.
"It's fantastic," said McGuinness, speaking to The Sun in an exclusive Canadian newspaper interview down the line from Vancouver. "We're kind of semi-Canadian ourselves, because we've been working with (Toronto concert promoters) Arthur Fogel and Michael Cohl, so we feel pretty much at home here."
McGuinness said that while a crew moved into GM Place on Feb. 25 to start building the Vertigo stage, the band didn't arrive until last week following their March 14 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York.
"We arrived that same night," said McGuinness, who was scheduled to leave Vancouver tonight. "We flew out of New York on Monday night and we got into Vancouver very early Tuesday morning."
The next thing for U2 singer Bono, guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who have been rehearsing in various locales since last December, is dress rehearsals, McGuinness said. They take place at the L.A. Sports Arena tomorrow, Friday and Saturday nights with some radio contest winners in attendance.
But while in Vancouver, he said, the band was pretty much left alone: "It was very quiet. No one bothered us. Canadians are very low-key, they leave you alone."
U2 didn't even get out on the mother of all Irish holidays. "I'm afraid St. Patrick's Day was a normal working day," said McGuinness.
McGuinness, who has been managing U2 for 27 years, ever since they formed in 1978, says Bono and company are looking forward to Monday's launch with equal amounts of excitement and nervousness.
"It's quite nerve-wracking," he said. "I'm not a performer. But for them, I think, they're always quite nervous about a new show. We've had some great shows in the past and people have high expectations of what's going to happen at a U2 concert. Anyone who doesn't feel scared going out and performing in front of 20,000 people would be a little odd anyway, I think. They're kind of sensible about it but like any performer, they get nervous and they want it to go well."
The Internet has been rife with rumours about the new Vertigo production, that it will be similar to the wildly successful Elevation trek when the band performed on a stripped-down stage encased in a heart-shaped catwalk.
McGuinness would only say it's an in-the-round stage at one end of the floor similar to the Elevation setup.
"It is a completely different production, but it shares characteristics with the Elevation production," he said.
As for songs, McGuinness said when you've been recording for 25-plus years, you have a lot to choose from.
"It's very difficult to get the balance right between the new material, which they're very excited about and which is currently on the radio, and on MTV and on MuchMusic, and the songs that people really expect to hear. But they are determined not to become their own kind of tribute band. It's not a greatest hits show. It's very important to us to get the new material into the spotlight, so you can expect most of the new album will feature in the set."
McGuinness said sales of U2's latest album, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, which is closing in on worldwide sales of nine million since its release last November, indicate it's poised to become the group's best-selling album ever.
They also won three Grammys in February for the album's first single, Vertigo.
"It's very unusual, in fact, unique," McGuinness said, "to be having a number one record, selling out a world tour, the week that you're being inducted into the Rock And Roll Of Fame," says McGuinness. "That's normally reserved for venerable, rather older, people."

U2 fan site Interference posted this set list performed by the band during one of their private rehearsals in Vancouver last week. Band manager Paul McGuinness said it was accurate for that rehearsal, but he stressed that the band is working on a bunch of different set lists. He figures it must have been a fan outside the building "who could tell what the songs were through the steel doors," McGuinness told the Sun. De populariteit van rockband U2 kent geen grenzen. Bijna alle concerten van de Vertigo-wereldtournee - ook die in Nederland - waren binnen een paar uur uitverkocht.

Maandag is de wereldpremière in San Diego. Een vooruitblik.
Donkere wolken en veel regen. De Sports Arena van San Diego mag dan in het uiterste zuiden van het normaal zo zonnige Californië liggen, vier dagen voordat U2 er zijn wereldtournee begint, zijn de omstandigheden Hollands.
De onpersoonlijke metalen kolos ligt er verlaten bij. Geen stalletjes met T-shirts, posters of andere voor de ware fan onmisbare U2-relikwieën. Gabriel Martinez, verkoopmedewerker van de sport- en muziektempel weet waarom. ,,De opbouw begint pas maandagochtend vroeg. Op zondagavond wordt er hier nog ge-ijshockeyd. Daarna verwachten we de eerste fans.''
Maar Tilburger Dirk Brands (28) staat nu al te dringen. Hij heeft al maanden een ticket en kan niet wachten om in San Diego voor het eerst van zijn leven een tournee-opening van zijn favoriete band mee te maken. Hij heeft er een lange vliegreis, vier vakantiedagen en bij elkaar een kleine 1000 euro voor over om U2 maandag te zien. ,,Waarom? Een eerste concert is al jaren mijn ultieme droom. Je weet dat de hele wereld meekijkt naar het optreden waar jíj bij bent. Dat maakt het spannend. Het is misschien een beetje raar om zover te reizen voor een optreden, maar we hebben het hier wel over Bono.''
Het is bij lange na niet de eerste U2-show voor Brands. ,,In 1993 zag ik de band voor het eerst in De Kuip. Daarna was ik er elke tour meerdere keren bij. Ik wil steeds meer. Een openingsconcert had ik nog nooit gezien. Nu komt het er eindelijk van. Als ik nu niet zou gaan, had ik mijn hele leven spijt gehad. Daarom ben ik een jaar geleden begonnen met sparen.''
Omdat de vriend met wie hij naar San Diego zou gaan, niet mee kon, maakt Brands de reis noodgedwongen alleen. Wel heeft hij met leden van de U2-fanclub afgesproken. Brands verwacht in totaal enkele tientallen landgenoten. Heel vreemd vindt hij hun reislust niet. ,,Ik weet dat er ook fans zijn die ruim een half jaar vrij nemen en de band over de hele wereld volgen. Zo ver komt het met mij hopelijk niet.''
Brands, in het dagelijks leven vertegenwoordiger, gaat vandaag even bij het stadion kijken. Veel wijzer zal hij er niet van worden. De podiumopstelling - bij U2 al decennialang een specifiek onderdeel van de show - blijft tot op de dag van het concert geheim. Zo stond er tijdens de Popmart-tour van 1997 bijvoorbeeld een gigantische, gele 'M' in McDonald's-stijl op het toneel. Geruchten zijn er echter al voldoende: een cirkelvormig podium met binnenin ruimte voor zeker duizend fans in het midden van de zaal bijvoorbeeld. Of, ook heel vernieuwend: een roterende, ronde bühne.
Hoewel het kwartet in alle beslotenheid repeteerde, zijn al wel de ingestudeerde nummers uitgelekt. De lijst doet vermoedelijk elke U2-fan watertanden. Werk van de twee recentste cd's, zoals Beautiful day, Elevation en Vertigo, wordt aangevuld met klassiekers als Sunday bloody Sunday, One en With or without you.
In San Diego, een miljoenenstad nabij de Mexicaanse grens, laait de U2-koorts vier dagen voor aanvang langzaam op. De VVV biedt geen speciale U2-arrangementen aan, maar constateert wel een stijging van het aantal hotelboekingen. Op lokale radiozenders gaan fans uit hun dak bij het winnen van de laatste kaartjes voor de show óf de laatste repetitie, vanavond in Los Angeles.
Voor Dirk Brands kan het, hoewel hij later dit jaar ook kaartjes heeft voor een concert in Dublin en twee shows in Amsterdam, niet snel genoeg Tweede Paasdag zijn. ,,U2 blijft elke cd én tournee verrassen. De band maakt op dit moment de beste muziek ter wereld en hoort in het rijtje Rolling Stones, Beatles en Queen.''
Oh ja, nog twee dagen ik wil het zie-hien!!!!!! Echt raar dat ze geen foto's van het podium openbaren. Het is dat ik in juli gewoon in Nederland ga, het is onmenselijk als je het openingsconcert bezoekt en het enige dat je weet is wie er gaan optreden s-l-o-p-e-n-d voor die fans.

Ik weet nog wel dat ik wel eens een concert heb gezien waarvan ik al heel erg goed wist wat er gingen gebeuren. Toen was ik daarvoor veel enthousiaster over het concert, dan tijdens het concert zelf

Ik persoonlijk kan het niet, maar vind het op zich wel een goed idee, ook leuk om te zien hoe die groep het beleeft en ook wel zo leuk voor hen, zodat ze ongestoord verder kunne posten over dat onderwerp. Maar aan de andere kant, misschien ben ik wel weer te zweverig bezig....

U2 rehearsed their new show before a group of fans in Los Angeles tonight, opening with City of Blinding Lights and closing with 40.
As well as those who won competitions through US radio stations, the band also invited in a crowd of fans who had been waiting outside the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
City of Blinding Lights, played in front of a startling curtain of lights descending from the top of the stage, was immediately followed by a a trio of songs from Boy.
‘We’re going back to where it started for us,’ said Bono.
But not for long. Next up was Beautiful Day, the crowd already screaming the house down, and we were soon into three more songs from the new album: Miracle Drug, Sometimes You Can’t Make it On Your Own and Love and Peace.
As well as a great set of tracks, new and old, there were a series of dazzling production innovations providing clues to the look and staging of ‘Vertigo 2005’.
But we don’t want to give too much away because that might spoil the surprise for Monday - and anyway the band may decide to change the set completely.
Production insiders have told us that they have rehearsed a huge number of song so there is a lot to choose from.

'40' is performed as it was in the 80s, with each band member leaving the stage separately and Larry finishing with a brief drum solo to close the show.
