Everton manager David Moyes has been crowned the LMA (League Manager's Association) Manager of the Year for the third time in his career.

The Scot claimed the gong this evening after guiding his Everton side to fifth in the Premier League and to an FA Cup Final this weekend against Chelsea. Since joining Everton Moyes has won the coveted LMA award on three occasions, the recent triumph following on from the accolades in 2003 and 2005.

LMA Chairman, Howard Wilkinson, said: “Since joining Everton, David has not only transformed the club’s fortunes, he has also created a huge fan base – including many of his fellow managers. With only modest financial backing, he has shown what can be achieved through discipline, dedication and an innate ability to get the best out of every player.”

Other awards on the night went to Sir Alex Ferguson who won the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Year award, and the LMA Special Merit Award as recognition for winning the European Champions League Final in 2007/08 and reaching his second consecutive final this year, winning the FA Community Shield, the FIFA Club World Cup Final, the League Cup and his 11th Barclays Premier League title - his 18th title overall and the second occasion he has won the title three times consecutively.

Son Darren Ferguson also won an award, claiming the Coca-Cola Football League One Manager of the Year award for guiding Peterborough United into the Championship.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy claimed the Coca-Cola Football League Championship Manager of the Year, after guiding Wolves into the Premier League and Andy Scott won the Coca-Cola Football League Two Manager of the Year.

Phil Neville has allayed fears over his fitness ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final.

The Everton captain was substituted during Sunday's victory at Fulham and manager David Moyes later admitted the midfielder was suffering with a hamstring problem.

The same was true of Steven Pienaar, but Moyes expects the South African to be fine as well.

Both players trained on Monday morning and reported no reoccurrence of the tweaks felt at Craven Cottage.

"I've had a bit of a tight hamstring now for a couple of weeks," Neville told evertonTV. "I just didn't want to take any risks. It was the last 10 minutes and it was no time for heroes - I just wanted to get off the field, get it relaxed and I trained on Monday with no problems and I feel 100 per cent fit."

Neville can now concentrate fully on leading his players out against a Chelsea side who go into the clash overwhelming favourites.

The man who won 10 major honours with Manchester United has seen a unique level of belief among his current team-mates and insists the tag of underdogs is one which sits happily with all.

"This set of players are so determined to succeed," he said. "They're all at that age now where they want success. I've never met a hungrier bunch of players for success and we're just hoping this is our time.

"I think we're ready, ready to play in an FA Cup final and ready to win. I don't see or smell any fear. All I see is lots of confidence and lots of belief.

"We're massive underdogs and everyone knows that - Chelsea are a world class team with wonderful players. But we've overcome that tag before and we've been able to handle everything that's been thrown at us."

Part of the belief which has shaped Everton's season, Neville insists, is drawn from the stands and, in a direct message to supporters, the 32-year-old added: "I just want to say thank you for everything you've done this season. You've picked us up when we've needed it, you've kicked us up the backside when we've needed it and you always wear your hearts on your sleeves.

"It makes you proud as captain when you're filling other people's stadiums with your own fans. It's then that it hits home that you're playing for a big club with supporters who really care.

"Let's hope on Saturday we can repay the fans and give them all a nice present."

Toffees trio sign new contracts

Everton trio Joseph Yobo, Tim Howard and Phil Jagielka have signed contract extensions with the club.

All three had agreed to their new deals in the last few weeks but now the formalities have been completed.

Defender Jagielka, currently sidelined after knee surgery, was the Toffees' player of the season.

Skipper Yobo was the first signing of manager David Moyes in 2002, while keeper Howard joined on loan in 2006 and signed a permanent deal in 2007.

Former Sheffield United man Jagielka was part of Everton's first-choice centre-back partnership alongside Joleon Lescott last season, but that was no bar to Nigeria international Yobo signing a new deal.


"It's great that three valuable members of the squad have committed themselves to the club for a lengthy period," said Moyes.

"Tim, Phil and Joseph have been big players for us over the last few years and it's great news that they will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.

"I have been pleased with the way we've gone about our business. We spoke to Phil, Tim and Joseph and we got everything done and dusted efficiently and quietly, which is the way we like things to be done."

Moyes has already stressed he has no plans to sell any players from his squad, but he acknowledges he has to strengthen if he is to have any chance of improving on last season's fifth-place finish in the Premier League.


Everton were devastated by serious injuries, with Jagielka's ruptured knee ligament the last in a long line which saw the seasons of Aiyegbeni Yakubu (Achilles), Mikel Arteta and Victor Anichebe (both knee) ended prematurely.

Further injuries to Louis Saha, James Vaughan and Nuno Valente saw the Toffees play most of December and January without a recognised centre-forward.

2e punt is dat Fellaini 1,95 is en wedstrijd in wedstrijd uit een drama is, iedereen doet het op zijn positie beter, daarom zeg ik iedereen is gewoon een versterking.

Moyes drops Lescott over attitude

Defender Lescott has told Everton he wants to leave

Everton boss David Moyes has dropped Joleon Lescott for Thursday's Europa League match against Sigma Olomouc because of his "poor attitude".

The 26-year-old Manchester City target played in the disastrous 6-1 defeat at home to Arsenal on Saturday.

Moyes said: "His attitude in the past few days has been poor and for that reason I won't include him.

"I've always thought he was a good lad. But I think he has not only let himself down but his team-mates, too."

Lescott, who had a transfer request rejected last week, was widely criticised for his performance against Arsenal.

And the defender did not train with the first team on Wednesday.

However, Moyes remains insistent that he does not want to sell the player to City, who have already had bids of £15m and £18m rejected.

"I hope this will all be sorted out, after the (transfer) deadline," added the Everton boss.

Moyes has described City's pursuit of Lescott as "disgusting", but the Eastlands club appear certain to make a new bid for the unsettled England international.

Everton have signed Russian international Diniyar Bilyaletdinov from Lokomotiv Moscow for an undisclosed fee.

Blues officials met with the player and his representatives in Hamburg on Monday (due to the fact he is permitted to enter Germany with a Russian passport without a visa) where the midfielder signed a five year contract that will keep him on Merseyside until 2014.

The 24-year-old, who is an established international with 28 caps, will now return to Russia to complete the formalities of a visa application to enter the UK.

Unfortunately for the Blues, the player will be ineligible for Thursday's Europa League play-off 2nd leg with Sigma Olomouc due to the Uefa registration deadline passing - and it remains unlikely that he will have arrived on Merseyside in time to prepare for the weekend's Premier League clash with Wigan.

He is due in the UK in early September for Russia's World Cup qualifier with Wales and the likelihood is that he will join up with his new teammates for the first time ahead of the trip to Fulham the following weekend.

"We are delighted to have secured the services of Diniyar," said Everton chief executive Robert Elstone.

"I know David Moyes has wanted to bring him to Goodison for some time and we look forward to welcoming him."

Bilyaletdinov broke into Lokomotiv's first team in 2004, quickly forging a reputation for his direct running style as well as displaying the leadership skills which would later be rewarded with the captain's armband.

The tall left-footer helped Lokomotiv to only their second Russian title in his debut season, earning the League's Young Player of the Year accolade in the process.

Bilyaletdinov is a regular for the Russian national team after making his debut aged 20. He featured in every game of their memorable run to the semi-finals of Euro 2008, where they lost to eventual winners Spain.

Before that he played in 10 of Russia's 12 qualifying matches for the tournament, including two games against England.

Dinyar's father, Rinat, was also a professional player with Lokomotiv Moscow and is now the club's reserve-team coach.
